I can't answer your first question. As for the other one, models won't work if you change vertex groups or the number of vertices in a model, so you can't add the 3D model of a mask to another model. A simple text addition by itself has no effect, since it uses the 3D content as a base. For what you want to achieve, you have to use one of the five or six models in the game files that already have facemasks by default and then use the Shrinkwrap tool and/or do some 3d editing in blender to make the chosen model look more like the one from the player you want wearing the mask.
