This download gave me a virus WS.Reputation.1, and I can't get rid of it. The game also crashes every time I try to open it, ive deleted all the mod files and it still keeps crashing. The virus activates every time I turn the game on, I am verifying game cache.

This is really pissing me off. The constant adfly links and viruses that come with downloads is so ridiculous.

Note: Verifying game cache didn't work. So I am running malware bytes. I can't play the game at all because every time I start it up it shows the virus, and crashes to the desktop. Again, I followed the removal instructions, and in general deleted all of the mod files from this mod, and it still shows the virus and crashes whenever I boot up the game.

This is ridiculous.

That's not the point. I have my computer protected, this is garbage.

Everything else works fine, just not 2K18. Which means it's attached to the specific mod. It's not from the ad, it's from the mod.

Also, malware bytes didn't pick it up.

So now I literally just can't play 2K18.

Awesome.

You think OP is trying to infect your computer with a virus? Seems like an awful lot of trouble to do so... it's probably from a malicious ad that popped up onto your screen. I can't help you when it comes to removing the virus but you need to get adblock so you can download files without having to worry about ad.fly pop ups regardless:

It's literally just 2K18 that's impacted. That's the mod, not an ad. It would be other apps that were affected.

I'm not accusing the OP of anything. I said that it directly impacted 2K18 and only 2K18.

The game will start up when I disable my anti virus. But no matter what I do it won't start up when it's enabled.

Wait the download for this doesn't even have ad.fly links? Why did you mention it or am I looking at something different?

EDIT:
Nevermind, disregard what I've been saying I misinterpreted what you were saying. I have no idea why you would get a virus from this, seems legit to me.

I figured it out. Dinput8.dll (or whatever) needs to be put to "Trust Now" in Norton file insight.

For anybody else having my problem, that's what it is.

Hey guys, just catching up here, if there is a virus in Reshade it’s news to me... been using it for years without problems, as have lots of people (thousands from this site alone). Can assure you that I have no interest in hacking your 2k18 game. I think the file you mentioned “Dinput8.dll” is not part of this mod (doesn’t sound familiar). Will verify when I get home from work. Regardless, sorry your having issues. Is anyone else?

I don't think it is either. It's part of the external file plugin mod, and I think Dee is just confused about false positives.

Re: Goldenstate77 Reshade

Reshade comes with two DLLs, reshade32.dll and reshade64.dll. When you run the mediator app, and run through the install steps, mediator selects the appropriate dll, renames it dxgi.dll and inserts it into the game folder, along with another file "reshade.fx". Those are the only two files related to reshade. Dinput8.dll is not part of the reshade mod.

Either way, out of the 6,450 people on NLSC who downloaded my reshade mod/settings for nba 2k17 (used the same exact files for this mod), and 515 people who have downloaded this version since I posted this weekend, this is the first time I've heard any virus related concerns. Think you are safe....

No worries. Thanks.

I couldn't get it to work anyway. My game wouldn't start even after I figured out the virus thing and reinstalled the mod.

hmmm, try downloading and installing this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... px?id=8109

let me know if that works...

I installed it and still no success

okay will try to figure this out, as a few people have had this issue. would you do me a favor and try rapid fire the nba 2k18 shortcut (just click it a bunch of times). Last year this worked for some---it was a conflict with an early version of the external file plugin.

Lame, sorry man. sounds like an ordeal. looking into the issue as one or two others have had the same issue (where the game doesn't start).

I added a new setting, nba 2k18 v3, for those wanting a slightly more pronounced effect. Still has all the other settings included. Also, I'm working on converting everything to the newest version of reshade. This might help some of those who are having issues (like the crash on loading). The only other real benefit is that you will be able to switch between the settings in game more easily.

Cool thx, Rob. Let me know what you think. It's pretty similar to v1, but with more a bit more effect. I'm working on converting everything to the new version of reshade, which will make it easier to switch between settings in game (only real benefit). Currently you can alt tab out to mediator and switch there, but this can cause the game to freeze sometimes. Also thinking about doing a tutorial, so folks can mess with the settings on their own too. All of this will have to wait though, as I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow for 10 days (Y)

Got the same norton false positive.

Funny because the same files are used with the 2k17 release of reshade without error.

That’s really bizarre! Anyway, hoping that moving to the latest version of reshade will eliminate any false positives, and help those who are experience the crash at start.

goldenstate77,
hey, I wanted to ask if it is possible to rename the dxgi.dll but still use reshade.
I'am using GemFx and I want to use your reshade simultaneously but both programs use dxgi.dll so it's not possible to have both of them in the same folder.
thanks in advance

Hey man. I don't think so. However, reshade includes GemFX shaders, so you can open upmediator, and add/modify the gemfx shaders there. I just returned from vacation, but hope to complete the transferring of my settings to the latest version of reshade this week (to make it easier to switch between profiles in game, or modify shaders while in game). Also on my wish list is to record a tutorial, so that folks can create their own, or modify my settings to their liking.
