Retro Superteam Suggestions!

Postby theMARKwithamouth on Sun Oct 29, 2017 3:43 pm

Hey guys, how would your dream retro 15-man full lineup look like, if they were to play in today's NBA? I want to start an 82-game HOF (Shady's sim. sliders) MyLeague season and want a retro team to beat the Warriors. Need your suggestions. The only rule would be that no active player in the current NBA season could be included, cause I still want to play against all the other teams in the regular season like the Cavs. So like let's say, 2013's Heat's C. Bosh could be in the team, just an example of how current it could be. Looking forward to your recommendations!

EDIT: Go crazy! If you want to get as detailed as to what playbook I should run, or even how the rotations should look like, go on ahead!

While there is nothing to argue with any player on Andrews list, I would try to add more three point shooters around those superstars as they get doubled a lot. And Magic, Jordan, Pippen and Drexler for example were only average three point shooters.

So if you want to beat the Warriors, maybe add more shooters like Ray Allen for example?

Apart from that nothing is wrong with going with the usual HoF guys.

That's a fair point. Players like Ray Allen and Chris Mullin would add a little more three-point shooting to the lineup. You might even want to drop a couple of the HoFers for some role players who were reliable three-point marksmen.

Starters

C - Wilt Chamberlain
PF - Bill Russell
SF - Larry Bird
SG - Michael Jordan
PG - Magic Johnson
----------------------------------------
Bench

C - Hakeem Olajuwon
PF - Charles Barkley
SF - Julius Erving
SG - Clyde Drexler
PG - John Stockton
PF - Karl Malone
SG - Kobe Bryant
SF - Rick Barry
PG - Isiah Thomas
C - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

That would be my list regardless if you could include current day or not.

Note: You are probably saying (Bill Russell at PF... really?). Yes, because of how he got up and down the floor, a primed Chamberlain as well. Both were amazing athletes who logged a ton of minutes, I wouldn't have any issue with them at the 4 and 5.

You also may say "No stretch 4?". Trust me, this lineup could flat out put the ball in the basket, Jordans shooting to go along with Birds abilitiy to stretch the floor, and Magic's underrated three game, they would be more than fine putting up points. IF you want to stretch the floor a bit more, you could throw Bird at PF and Rick Barry at the 3.

Bottom line, nobody touches that 15 man lineup. This is the team my brother and I use against the CPU on games and we have an average margin of victory of over 50 on HOF.

* 5 players <=73 OVR

PG: John Stockton ('98 Jazz, 90)
SG: Ray Allen (All-Time Bucks, 90)
SF: Scottie Pippen (All-Time Bulls, 97)
PF: Elgin Baylor ('71 Lakers, 77)
C: Hakeem Olajuwon (All-Time Rockets, 98)
6: Shane Battier ('06 Grizzlies, 80)
7: A.C. Green ('91 Lakers, 76)
8: Dell Curry ('93 Hornets, 77)
9: Gary Payton ('06 Heat, 76)
10: Alonzo Mourning ('06 Heat, 75)
11: Nate McMillan ('96 Sonics, 73)
12: Steve Kerr ('96 Bulls, 73)
13: Bruce Bowen ('97 Heat, 69)
14: Mychal Thompson ('87 Lakers, 69)
15: Raef LaFrentz ('03 Mavericks, 73)
