It's stupid because in real life even if you have to defend bigger guy who just can hook over you, everybody including coach is like "yup... good defense, no foul, hands up, boxed him out after the shot... can't do more".

We shouldn't be forced to spend a quarter of the year grinding just so we can play for the remaining 3/4, only to have to rinse and repeat every September. I totally get that 2K wants to cash in on VC but even before this micro-transaction nonsense, they never allowed (LOYAL) 2K players to transfer their characters over.

Part of that is they're doing a new storyline every year, which wipes out what came before.

They should just let you have multiple "myplayers" with a choice of how you want each one to be used:
1. The New Storyline with all its garbage
2. Storyline-less with play some kind of intro games, go through the draft, try to make team, g-league, etc. Which is what 2K17 more or less nearly was, and 2K16 after the first season. While also being similar to how the mode was in 2K10-12.
3. Bring forward a past player for the online stuff, maybe you get a small rating knock down or something. Can only bring forward so many badges, etc. Can only bring forward so much apparel, etc. So you have to do a little playing.

Just from the storyline this year you start with a dude at 55-60 rated always, whereas in both of the last two games, you could max out your player before he even got to the NBA if you saved up the VC before playing the last NCAA game. 2K10 and 2K11 were the only other games that let you alter your ratings before the player was "drafted" though in both cases it was almost necessary to get him even playable against the faster NBA players.

I used to really like playing with two or three guys at the same time, all different types, because after so many games I'd get a little bored with playing my defensive center, so I'd play some with my shot happy combo guard. Last year you could still do that, even if you had to deny VC to everyone but the player you were developing temporarily, but this year it seems less like I'll want to do that. Especially with the whole picking which team to play for thing. And the storyline.

Though admittingly I still want to create Priest Lauderdale 2.0 just to see him shrink during every cutscene.
