They don't do the roster (or any content) updates through Steam like a normal patch that's all done through their own system.
I both like and dislike this. Though I noticed this year they've added a progress bar about the downloads which is great, especially since they stopped two games ago putting in the "what's new" what the hell you just downloaded other than rosters. Or at least I don't remember seeing notes about new jerseys, courts, etc. last year.
Still wish you could dismiss the message about going back to the main menu, especially if I'm playing a game versus in the menus, I mean, I know, and I'll go back there eventually anyway at some point, kinda doing something right now. Especially since it semi-walls off the modes once you start them anywya.
The one "neat" thing is that the original rosters are intentionally preserved now due to that whole "start in the last offseason" feature in MyLeague. (Though the old games hid them somewhere for use in MyPLAYER.) Even if they semi-cheat by "correcting" the rookies they blew the ratings on. I see you 2K, lol
Actually now I'm wondering what happens if I start up the old games that did background content updates since I know they fail to connect, there's probably a hundred threads about this but I doubt 2K14 or whatever redownloads all the content and rosters...though the NLSC Downloads probably offer them still.
And yes, I sorta hijacked your thread to ramble and secretly pose a question that someone might answer.
