NBA Live 18 APPRECIATION THREAD

Postby iceinmyveins on Sun May 20, 2018 11:27 am

I've been having an awesome time playing Franchise Mode with my Spurs. It's starting to feel a lot like the mountains of fun I had on NBA Live 2010. Yesterday, I played a road game against the Pelicans. It was nice to see Cousins & Davis beasting and Rondo pestering Patty Mills on defense, see Mirotic firing 3's. They took an early lead on me, but I fought back (my favorite thing to do) and ultimately won out against them in a close one. I'm known for 8-0 runs and even larger runs with my Spurs, and this is way back from the Live 10 days and on 2K games as well, especially when starting the 3rd quarter.

On one possession, I made a risky pass and it got deflected by Davis, but Tony Parker flew into the frame and barely snatched it back, then I passed out to Kawhi. I dribbled a bit and nailed a 3PTer that turned out to be the dagger of this game.

I finally found the perfect sliders thanks to ThaLiveKing and I'm 15-3, 1st in the western conference. The shot meter is still hit or miss for me, but I'm getting better and seeing that green is awesome. What are some things you really like about this game, or see potential in?

Obviously, the roster editing was a HUGE plus.

-The deflections, and the fact that you can jump and hit the ball. Hated intercepting passes on 2K and it either goes THROUGH your hands or you miss it.

-The dribbling and ankle-breaking. I'm finally getting better at dribbling moves and shot types. Gasol did a sweet spin hook in the paint, but I missed.

-The sick blocks and dunks. The blocking is easier than on 2K and a bit easy at times, but that's how I like my gameplay. And clearly you can't block with every player or make a steal. I have a fouling problem, honestly. It was easier on 2K to get steals, so I like how you gotta play hard D on this one to win.

-The difference of each game. Sometimes I get stomped and have no chance. Other games, I dominate or it's a close one through and through.

-The commentary. I swear, it's getting better the longer my season goes. They're talking about Kawhi Leonard's skills, and other players. Never heard this stuff earlier in the season. It's nice. They talked about Cousins' skill set also when he was doing free throws (like in 2K). Also, Mike Breen really makes it feel like I'm watching it on TV, lol. Bang! It's still not as "good" as 2K but it's not bad, by any means. People trashed it all the time on YouTube gameplay, but it really has been nice. I like the after-quarter score breakdowns by Breen, too.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the game. There's still plenty of room for improvement, but overall there were some encouraging steps forward in NBA Live 18. Franchise mode is still a bit too shallow for my liking, but the groundwork is there.

Sure, bud. Probably gonna play a game later, will post the sliders.

No promises, lol, but they've been pretty good to me.

Pistons were whooping me after taking the lead, went up 15 points on me by the end of the 3rd, but I stormed back. Hit two big threes with both Mills and Kawhi. It was awesome, giving me a 9-game win streak. Had a good game against OKC the other day, too.

I'm loving it! Especially how I can make my defense rev up when I need it too, taking control of each player wherever the ball goes.

Here ya go, deihatein. Keep in mind these all came from ThaLiveKing originally. Check out his gameplay videos, got me interested.

I made some tweaks, ThaLiveKing. Like CPU contested shot impact, seems to help me make more "decent" shots that I attempt whereas before I was missing everything that wasn't green. Can't remember what other minor tweaks I did, but game is great for me now.

Skill Level: PRO
9 minute quarters
Shooting/FT shooting: Rating + Skill
Fatigue: On

user/cpu (unless it is same number)

USER
Inside shot ability: 40
Mid-range shooting: 40
3-Point shooting: 45/40
Free throw shooting: 70
Post shooting: 50
Driving layup ability: 70/40
Post move effectiveness: 60
Dunk frequency: 45/40

Reach-in foul frequency: 5/10 (You still can't over-reach, or you'll rack up fouls)
Jump shot foul frequency: 65
Post shot foul frequency: 60
Layup foul frequency: 65
Dunk foul frequency: 60/65
Off in air collision frequency: 90
Off on ground collision frequency: 90
Def in air collision frequency: 90
Def on ground collision frequency: 90/80

Steal success: 35/30 (if a player is good at stealing the ball, you'll get some but not with anybody--you'll foul or get shook)
Tune alley-oop success: 40 (I don't do alley oops, might try some later on)
Shot off-dribble impact: 80/20 (I may lower this in the future, as I can't make any step-backs, lol)
Shot contest impact: 80/35 (like I said, it seems to be working better with it low for the CPU)
Shot blocking ability: 60
Offensive rebounding frequency: 10/0 (I get CPU put-backs sometimes, but sometimes you miss, but it's not too much and it helps)

Off-ball pushoff frequency: 100
Off-ball pushoff success: 100
Off-ball jostle success: 100
Jostle vs blow-by: 50/40
Dribble move reaction frequency: 50/40

The Comeback: (meant to make another clip, but forgot, lol. Made a corner 3PTer with Mills shortly after and sealed the win.)

I love franchise mode but the trading - having your rotation ruined every sim - off-season and draft are all terrible imo. I got one going with the grizzlies where I got Marc Gasol averaging 25 and 10. Happy Days :D

Those are definitely aspects that need to be tightened up in Franchise mode moving forward.

I bought an Xbox One a month ago (my first console since SNES) and immediately picked up this game. It was very refreshing. Just wish there were more signature animations for dunks and especially for post moves. The franchise mode is kinda shallow in my opinion. I would love to be able to assign some classic players on regular teams for the franchise mode. But the gameplay is fun. I missed NBA Live so much. Looking forward to the next iteration.

It looks like Real Player Motion is going to result in more signature animations in NBA Live 19. I also hope Franchise gets beefed up a little.

Officially won the championship!
Didn't expect to get a trophy, which is icing on the cake!

Going to head over to 2K18...got my rosters all ready to go.
Do some roster changing for my Spurs, maybe...we'll see.

Overall, Live 18 was a good time. If anyone wants to read the blog
documenting my season/playoffs on Live 18, here ya go:
https://fullcirclelivereunion.blogspot. ... chive.html

I am interested in Live 19, and when the time is right, I'll check it out.
Until then, it's back to 2K...where things are more polished. I do miss it.

Good job, EA! It felt awesome having NBA Live back, can't beat that feeling!
My main motivation for switching back is sadly the doubt I have in being
able to create rookies and make all of the roster changes of this summer.
Especially with the menu speed being so slow. Just not worth it, IMO.
I might make an attempt down the road, but for now my copy'll be on the shelf.

Lasted a month before the game modes wore thin tbh

Hopefully they add more franchise depth it's what ended up killing it for me in the end....

It's one of the biggest issues moving forward, depth across all modes. It sounds like Franchise is pretty much the same in NBA Live 19, unfortunately.

Yea and the demo hasn't really sparked any interest in me either :(

I was really rooting for it this year but NBA 2K is looking good not gonna lie so I'm gonna be buying that again.

I like the improvements that have been made in NBA Live 19 in terms of gameplay, but modes are the big question mark moving forward.

Personally disagree with 2K19 somewhat. Defense has improved, but the skating is still present; and knowing the 2K community, patches are gonna break the game because they cater to the Park players.

Sure, Live 19 has areas that it can improve, but at least the past updates for Live 18 fixed important issues like the double ankle breaker. If LUT 19 is improved from 18 (it looks like it so far), then I don't have a real reason to stick on 2K19 (unless some revamps such as removing the skating and nonsensical archetypes - looking at Sharpshooting Rim Protector, then I'll get both games.)

I'm getting both, but given I'm creating content for the NLSC, I kind of have to.
