What Are the Coaches Doing?

Watch the head coaches during a game. Steve Kerr is head coach for the Bulls. In the finals against the Lakers, Kerr is pacing around screaming, gesturing at an empty court, screaming at the crowd or cameramen, even with the Bulls up 15.
Why both with all that animation when it's not coordinated to what's happening on the floor? That mismatched coach activity detracts from the game.
On the Lakers side, Walton is sitting in his chair constantly writing on the clip board. Then he turns and nods and gestures as if he's talking to someone, but nobody is looking at him or acting as if they're in the conversation he's having.
