Did that ultimately become possible in 2K16? I skipped it, but may opt for 2K17.

Wow. Pippen, Ewing, DROB, Clyde, Mullin look great, but Stockton and THE GOAT look horrible. Bird looks decent, at least better than he had in previous games. Magic is a bit off, but decent. Same with Malone. I just can't believe how terrible Stockton looks and how Michael Jordan looks like he's mentally disabled. Ugh. Hope they fix Hakeems awful 2K16 face at least. If they can't get the most popular athlete of all time right, i hope they get my 2nd favorite player ever right.

I just started looking at the arms and shoulders, and they are still gumby looking. Weak. No muscle definition in any of them. Hopefully it's just their resting arm look, even though, PIP and DROB and Jordan still look cut while not flexing. Karl Malone should obviously have huge arms too. Stockton also wasn't some puny punk, dude was fit too. Bird's arms are way too short also.

Bird's arms should be slightly longer:

Stockton's arms don't look like that of a 13 year old boy:

Like I said before, I'm focusing on the lighting more than anything. It looks like they went back to 2k14 lighting (to me), which I loved. Crossing my fingers.

Also, I thought that they did body scans? (Not for every player obviously) I don't think he looks super bulky... I think he looks pretty good.

What happened with body scans?

First durant returns to his 2k14 body type as shown below

Image

And now PG does look a bit bulky. But why didn't they just scan his body or Durant's?

Also it looks like the global lighting values have been changed. But none of these things are real graphic improvements to me. It just looks like tweaks which is fine. PG's face looks good. That's a positive.

Biggest thing I noticed about this screenshot, they've finally added that stupid extra tab to the side of the jersey. I've been complaining about this for years... maybe they took notice of my complaint. Hopefully they do this for a lot of jerseys, like the Lakers, Hornets, Magic, Pistons, Suns, Heat, Clippers, and a lot of classic jerseys (Yes there are actually this many teams that haven't had their side fixed since as long back as NBA 2K11.)

Also, doesn't that screenshot look like 2K14 next gen when zoomed in. I'm so glad they've gone back to that lighting, it actually makes skin tones look realistic now.

Here's NBA 2K16 for comparison:

Talking about this whole Body Scan thing.... there are only 7 body types in the game:

Image

Bodytype #1 - This is the most common body type. It is used for Create a Player, your MyPlayer and usually players who don't get face scans done.
Bodytype #2 - This is the skinny muscular body type. It's used by players like Dwyane Wade, DeMarcus Cousins, Kemba Walker, Derrick Favors etc.
Bodytype #3 - This is the skinny body type. It's used by players like Stephen Curry, Andrew Wiggins, Kevin Durant (2K16) etc.
Bodytype #4 - This is the muscular body type. It's used by players like LeBron James, Isaiah Thomas, Dwight Howard, Nene, David West etc.
Bodytype #5 - This is the awkward fat body type. It's used by players like Dirk Nowitzki, D'Angelo Russell, Andre Drummond, Jonas Valanciunas etc.
Bodytype #6 - This is the fat body type. It's used by players like Draymond Green, Glen Davis, Shaquille O'Neal, Al Jefferson, Zach Randolph
Bodytype #7 - This is the high school body type. It's going to be the body type that Kevin Durant is going to be using in NBA 2K17 and it looks fucking stupid.

When they say body scans they don't mean they actually scan the size of the arm/legs etc.
All they do is scan the wingspan, the shoulder height, and the body length.

To prove my point watch what happens when I swap out a player with the same body type and give them the same height, wingspan, shoulder height and the same body length as the previous player in this GIF.

Image

Their bodies are literally the exact same. There are a couple of differences, like the length and size of Carmelo and Curry's legs but the size of the arms are literally the same. These supposed 'body scans' don't scan the size of arms. You will also notice their jerseys are the exact same, this jersey comes with the player model. It's a bit misleading to be honest and I'm surprised people haven't noticed this over the past two years.

As I've said before, they have given KD the high school player model which is Bodytype #7. It looks like Paul George will have the same player model from 2K16, which is Bodytype number #1.

PeacemanNot great post. Body scans were a big part of last year's marketing. I thought they were literally getting players body measurements in the game. I'm sure others were under the same impression.

PeacemanNOT, great job on exposing 2K marketing plan with those "Body scans". I noticed it had to be something wrong with that when they said they scanned Harrison Barnes body just a few weeks before the game launched. I think this change only made things worse, because they created new Player skins from scratch to fit those new Body types, and a lot of these new Player skins are way too light, and they don't match the color of their faces because of that too. Some examples of that: Jimmy Butler, LaMarcus Aldridge, Nerlens Noel, just to name a few

I am more than sure that was taken care off. I don't see devs fixing the jerseys only for the Pacers because PG13 is on the cover, leaving all the other teams aside. They'd get killed on social media.

Thank you for the feedback on my comment above. Another interesting thing to see is that there is actually a file in the cyberface model and it's called apperance_info. In the file there is all this information like skin colour, the models body type, the colour of armpit hair and the size of the models pupils. Unfortunately it can't be edited as the game just doesn't accept the edited version.

Have a look at Stephen Curry's file compared to Andrew Wiggins:

Andrew Wiggins

Notice anything similar? Basically this whole body scan thing is a complete bullshit, but to be honest I can't really blame the 2K developers. It's more so the community manager's fault as to why everyone thinks that they actually fully scan the body. They never really gave clear indication as to what they were scanning and it gave off the impression that they were scanning every detail of the player's body when in reality all they do is measure the wingspan, shoulder height and body length and then edit the models that are already in place to fit these measurements.

Great info! OS lit up after someone posted excerpts from PeacemanNot's post. I guess we were all fooled by the marketing. I cringed when youtubers would say stuff like " u can tell they scanned this player's body. That is his body". You could tell something was off with some players. I only played this on my nephews ps4 but i wondered why Wiggins head and neck proportions were off if they had body scans. Makes sense now.

PeacemanNot, I bet you could edit that file with hex editing and save the changes.

Great finds PeacemanNot. The marketing on that was certainly deceiving. Personally, I can handle the fact that they are not true body scans, as long as the gameplay is great.

Love this info though, thank you.

I think we all knew that some players were off but many thought a few players had their real bodies in the game.

So if we apply the same logic of "body scans" to the MyPlayer "face scans" it makes even more sense. Many complained because the faces don't look like you, but that is because camera is mainly scanning for your facial texture and will apply it to a pre-determined headshape.

Wow! Lol, I love 2K but damn this is some messy marketing to a degree. I guess they left it up to the consumer to make their own assumptions.

I actually always only thought they were 'scanning' the skin - as in texture (tattoos, skin imperfections, ...).
Let's just hope we'll be actually able to select body type in MyCareer - doesn't seem to be that hard.

BTW I see you added Sim Bhullar as type #8 on Reddit.
