Cities Skylines - All My (Our?) Failed Cities

Postby JaoSming on Sun Mar 15, 2015 11:40 am

Finally got some time to play today.....and immediately ruined my first city I started when the game launched.

Cause of Death: Traffic

Had nice "roundabouts" dealing with the traffic, then I gave into the industry demand. Too much heavy traffic, too costly to restructure my entrance and needed loans... the new entrance failed to take care of the traffic and the loans made me start to lose money. 2 minutes later I hit the bailout screen and left it for dead.

This game is awesome though. Simplistic, detailed, pretty, buggy, and moddable like whoa. I think I have 300+ workshop items installed already.

If you have it, I highly recommend the tree brush mod, ground level FP camera(s), 1x1 parks, autosaver, and purple pollution remover. If you are dumb like me and like to fail, no despawn for traffic is awesome as well (hence this first fail).
Opinions are my own.

People are saying that it's better than any SimCity game. Is it?

That's a stretch on SimCity 4 with it's mods, 3000 and 2000 based on nostalgia too.

I think since its so moddable (any C# can be inserted into the game) that it will probably surpass SimCity 4.....but I wouldn't say that right now. Traffic AI isn't as good as SC4 imo.

I decided to just screw around with unlimited cash for now, until I learn how to create a city with proper structuring. Because all my cities to this date look like segments of Manhattan.

EDIT: Decided to create a collection of mods I'm gonna use... http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =408868625

Yup, seen several recerences in chirper, but Wayne Enterprises was a very random thing - I was just clicking around factories to see the levels.

So far mods I'm gonna need:
stop sign intersections (switchable from the traffic lights)
Building abandonment reason (is that a word?)
Some advanced statistics screen

ah, cool
So maybe just a cosmetic mod displaying it automatically, rather then after on.mouse.over

Thanks for the tip :)

This guy doesn't have the Darth Vader avatar and signature for nothing.

eeeeeeh, killed the third one..... gross mismanagement? idiotic and trigger-happy mayor?

Embraced the grid, and it worked!
Image

Like, it worked really well, all 2 lane 2-ways, except for the center boulevard streets which were 1-ways.
Image

Mods are pretty
Image
Image

Got to 8,000 Cims, unlocked high density for the first time and expanded North....
Image

Then accidently deleted a power station, and didn't have funds to rebuild it because of that sexy interstate intersection....
Image
Image

....and then garbage became an issue for some reason (traffic probably) despite giving those trucks plenty of access to residential areas
Image
Image

Screw it, next one is unlock all and sandbox.

Hey Jon, can you make derp towers? I would consider the computer upgrade if you could.

Obviously my city would be called Kennywood.

Derp towers? If you mean something like mega towers from latest Simcity then no.

You can create a mod with t if you feel like it :D

Buildings can upgrade themselves if services are available and land value is high.
I case of high density living areas they can become skyscrapers.
