Under the Radar - Retro Titles

Have any of you scoured the internet for titles that were unmistakeably ahead of their time, but just lacked the push more recognized titles receive? I was just rummaging through a couple of websites and found games such as "Blade of Darkness," arguably the pinnacle of its genre. I was most surprised that I couldn't find any games possessing an identical or even similar theme. What was the last amazing title with a comprehensively functional combat system for both ranged and melee - with the chance of bloody dismemberment? I gotta say that titles that FROMSOFTWARE has delivered could have fared much better with an adaption of the aforementioned concepts. Bloodborne could also benefit from a similar system, however, I find it highly unlikely that any part of it has been implemented. Why haven't developers tackled something like this? I cannot think of a single title that can compete.
