Question For PS4 Owners

Wed Nov 19, 2014 11:02 am

So I still haven't made the jump to next-gen, but I plan to do so this Christmas. I've been dead set on getting a PS4 since E3 2013, but there is one major red flag: every time I've used a PS4, the controller has been messed up in some way. Without fail, the rubber on the left analog stick is always torn - not necessarily a deal-breaker, as that is how my 360 controllers are, but not good either. Today, when I was trying out 2K15 at Gamestop, the controller I used also had a faulty R2 button, which would stick if too much pressure is applied. On the other hand, the XBone controllers I've used (admittedly only a couple) have always been in mint condition.

Are people just too hard on the demo consoles, or is the PS4 controller just really cheaply made? What has been your experience with the DS4?

Mine's still in perfect condition after 6 months and I'm terrible with controllers. Side by side with my ps2 controller for evidence.

Well display units at stores get raped and destroyed by kids and douchebags alike. I've had mine for a couple months now and both controllers are in perfect condition still

Mine has a small tear forming at the bottom/6 o'clock of the Left Stick. Caused by a teething toddler, not wear and tear. It's annoying but my other controller doesn't have it. Triggers, buttons, everything works great on both.

There are caps you can get for it, Leftos has them, didn't affect my playing of the games at all.

Mine also has a small tear forming on the left side of the left analog stick. But then again I have a launch day console and heard the early batch of controllers had those problems.

I purchased paddings ever since I bought it. No problems for me.

My brother and I both have issues with the rubber wearing off on the thumb sticks. We just ended up buying thumb grips. I love the xbox one controller, and most of my gaming lately has been on the xbox one, so I've used the crap out of it, and the controller is going strong. Both controllers are great this gen. I wouldn't base the console purchase on a controller this time around.

No issues with my PS4 controllers after a year.

I've had zero issues with my two controllers, however, after four years my PS3 controllers appear to be deteriorating. Demo consoles are usually sketchy anyway. The trigger buttons do feel a bit weird, or different from the PS3's controllers - perhaps they were aiming for a different pressure sensitivity scheme, I dunno really. The controllers are functional though.
