Help Me Friends (GPU Temperature Issue)

Postby bowdown on Tue Aug 12, 2014 7:17 am

Hi "friends", my ATI HD 5670 1GB is at 52C at startup, 66C during web surfing and 90C during Skyrim at high settings. I am wondering if these are anywhere near acceptable temperatures for GPUs. If not then please halp me with some advice. The GPU fan runs a lot louder than I remember it running when it was newer. It is the middle of summer and room temp is probably around 75F - 80F.

Rest of my specs are:

CPU: AMD Phenom II x 6 1045t
RAM 6 GB
Windows 7

Dell XPS 7100 Desktop bought in 2011 and been cleaned once since.

Right now my CPU temp is 32C so I think it is in the clear and GPU is definitely a problem.

I am not a expert in this Area, but maybe you must it clean from dust (Check it from Case) or your G-Card need a new (Driver-Update) AMD Catalyst http://support.amd.com/de-de/download

Good Luck (Y)

Thanks
I just opened up my desktop and cleaned the GPU pretty well. There was a lot of dust on the fan and heatsink. The startup temperature was still at 51C and right now web surfing it is at 57C (slightly better). The thermal paste inside was completely dried and almost non-existent so I think that is going to be the main problem to fix. What do you guys think?

My drivers are fully updated, btw.

Yeah, get new thermal paste and maybe consider a fan and heatsink upgrade. Maybe even go liquid if you really wanna fix the issue.

The problem seems to be have been solved. I just played Skyrim for several hours and the most the temperature got was 82C and only for a very short while. Mostly when I checked by switching from the game my GPU was around 70C range and quickly returned back to 57C after closing Skyrim for less than 2 mins.

Major improvement is that my fan is not as loud as it used to be. Very quite now even during the game.

Removing all that dust on the fan and heatsink helped a lot. Thermal paste would probably help more so Ill look into it. Thanks for your guys' input.
