The Golf Club - Out Now(ish) Share Courses Between PC/PS4/X1

$30 for the first week, $35 otherwise. Coming to PS4 and Xbox One. Was supposed to be out Spring 2014, but obviously that is getting pushed back.

Unlicensed, generic, golf game. Procedurally generated courses that can be customized to your heart's content in 3 environments, 2 more coming up. Online sharing of courses, asynchronous multiplayer with ghosts from auto-chosen rivals or friends, other multiplayer stuff coming up. Basic gameplay like Tiger Woods games. Right stick down and up to swing with variance based on not being vertical, or use the mouse with the same down up motion. Choose shot types, purposeful fade/draws, all that. Basic player customization, female players coming soon.

Es buen, me likey. Runs ~20fps on my computer, hoping it is just unoptimized. I just like having a golf game to play again though.

How is the commentary? It sounds pretty mutable. The model pose on certain slopes looks a bit funny when it animates, like something is holding it in mid air.

Even as early access, it looks quite generic(it is, duh) and I wouldn't put down 30 on it right now. I bought Dayz for 30 and haven't played it in weeks. It's ship has sailed, imo. I don't want to make the same mistake. I'll wait until it's done. If it's worth full price, I'll pay full price.

Also, press F12 at certain times and you will get some left in dev tools. Like DoF.

I wish pc games had the ability to make your own commentary, so every time I make a put I hear "BOOM SHAKALACK!"

I actually like the commentary, dude's name is Jon, I mean cmon. But no, its nothing spectacular, lots of uh, um, and other "bad" things. But it does feel personal in some strange way. I've been playing with Tiger 2004 soundtrack and other terrible music in the background, so I've been having fun that way.

Very generic, unless you have been waiting for this like I have, I don't know if I would feel ok convincing anyone to buy it. You can make unique courses though, I just made an all par 3 Chip n Putt with portapotties in the bunkers/on greens and shit. The courses are the stars of the game, so its up to the community to make it something special. Right now it is just a lot of the hardest, hilliest, and narrowest courses the game will generate, but the cream will rise.

One nice feature is the asynchronous multiplayer, it doesn't go hole by hole, if I take 5 minutes to lineup a shot on the 3rd hole, I will be 5 minutes behind you later, or maybe I'll catch up if I start grippin and rippin. I had new TGC friends adding my while I was playing tonight, and actually joining the course I was playing. They of course started at hole 1, but it was awesome seeing them show up on my scorecard and seeing their markers fly around on different holes.

I read about F12's photo mode. This is MUCH better from the closed beta's April fools joke update (watch first if you want to be surprised).

Its a unity game, there are probably decompilers for the game files.

I think I like it because it is so basic, there's no bullshit. Its just a solid golf gameplay mechanic that is nearly identical to the one I played 10 years ago until my thumbs bled. No ratings to boost, no unbalanced mechanics, just me vs whoever seeing who can draw the stick down and up in the absolutely straightest way possible

And again, joining friends in progress on a course is fantastic.

big update Friday. havent actually played the game in a bit because I've been playing 2K, but I will get into this again for sure with the Tour option

    Tours and Tournaments mode added
Users can create their own tournaments (single location events) or tours (multi-location events) and share them
Settings/rules can be customized per competition
Private (friends only) competitions are supported
    Club distance tweaks
    Loft resolution tuning
    Short game shot tweaks (Pitch+Flop)
    Desert course theme
New official courses: “Yuma Desert Golf Club” and “Sonoran Golf and Country Club”
New Course Creator Items and Features
New wildlife (ducks, swans, fox, wolf, chicken, cow, goat, pig, sheep, crocodile)
    New terrain sculpting brushes
Opinions are my own.

Played again after a monthish off. Like a new game, everything is faster and smoother. Tours and such are nice, you can turn off certain assists for everyone in them, so no targets and such, makes it really fun.

also shots fired

this one does not, but there is a new Links game coming out iirc that will have it. This one does the analog/mouse back and forth like old Tiger Woods games.

So course sharing will be cross-platform. So the courses I made on PC will be available for PS4 and X1 users. No cross-platform leaderboards, multiplayer, or anything like that, but still pretty sweet that the courses will crossover.

out now officially on PC and X1 with PS4 next week....I think.

Just booted it up for a few minutes, additional basic quality settings in-game for tree quality, depth of field, AA, and other stuff. Dem frames.

Female golfers, Links courses added, and just other insanity. Still a solid game, especially now that it runs better. Yay golf!
