Thoughts?

I want a game console. I know the counter argument is that why not have a game console that can play NG games and do all that other shit, well, I get distracted easily. But if your cable service isnt compatible, or you dont use xbox movies or music, or other shit that you are locked out of for whatever reason, I dont want to see that shit and know I dont want or cant use it.
Just gimme games, make it about games, and these pre-E3 conferences swings that stance to PS4.

Here we go with more details
Xbox One isn't backwards compatible with Xbox 360 discs or Xbox Live Arcade, Gamerscore transfers

Forza 5 wasn't CG, that's nice, looked impressive

Game installs required (ugh 500gb only?) and 2nd owner of the disc has gotta pay
There’s one feature of Xbox One from which we can infer quite a few conclusions: You can install any game from the disc to the console’s hard drive, and then play that game whenever you like without having to put the disc in.
Wired asked Microsoft if installation would be mandatory. “On the new Xbox, all game discs are installed to the HDD to play,” the company responded in an emailed statement. Sounds mandatory to us.
What follows naturally from this is that each disc would have to be tied to a unique Xbox Live account, else you could take a single disc and pass it between everyone you know and copy the game over and over. Since this is clearly not going to happen, each disc must then only install for a single owner.
Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disc.
They also confirmed that a new version of FIFA 14 Ultimate Team would be coming to Xbox One exclusively.
EA just confirmed on GTTV that NHL probably won't be next-gen until next year.
"We purposefully did not target the highest end graphics. We targeted it more as a broad entertainment play."
"(Microsoft wouldn't give us specifics other than to say, "The system is designed for an SoC up to about 100W, but will vary on the scenario.")" - out of the article to the video from above.
For comparison's sake: this is slightly above the power draw of the current Xbox 360 Slim and PS3 Slim

I was curious about that
Harvey Eagle: Kinect required in all cases for #XboxOne to function
The Xbox One won't play any existing Xbox 360 games, said Microsoft's Marc Whitten in an interview with The Verge.
The lack of backward compatibility results from the new console's hardware architecture, which is a significant departure from that of the Xbox 360. "The system is based on a different core architecture, so back-compat doesn't really work from that perspective," said Whitten, corporate vice president of Xbox Live.
I just stole that shit from NeoGaf, so no links for you

E3 will be when we (i) can say for sure but so far i am much more into the ps4. the voice controls thing sounds cool if you live alone. i can already see people running in the room and telling it to watch tv while i am mid game

he said it can recognize your own voice in the presentation, so maybe there would be a lock for that so people couldnt do that and only listen to your voice. Annoying yes, but if you were playing single player it would only pause it at least

Heard people calling it Xbox VHS. Kinda funny.
I think it's kinda big though. Specs (rumored) aren't anything to boast about. I hope it doesn't last longer than 6 years because that kills game innovation. They only innovate on next gen consoles when PCs have been capable of doing all these things a long time ago.
Anyone know if it comes with the Kinect. I know it can't function without it so I'm guessing yes. Not a fan of this since I don't care for the Kinect and it probably drives the price up.
Wed May 22, 2013 8:54 am
Yes, it comes with the Kinect.
More details coming out..
The Xbox One doesn't have to be online all the time, but it does have to be online. Not just once in a while—once a day,
"No, it does not have to be always connected, but Xbox One does require a connection to the Internet."
Xbox One games will require a one-time activation code to use, but you'll still be able to trade and sell them online
But what if you want to bring a game disc to a friend's house and play there? You'll have to pay a fee—and not just some sort of activation fee, but the actual price of that game—in order to use a game's code on a friend's account. Think of it like a new game, Harrison says.
...
"They would be paying the same price we paid, or less?" we asked.
"Let’s assume it’s a new game, so the answer is yes, it will be the same price," Harrison said.
"We will have a solution—we’re not talking about it today—for you to be able to trade your previously-played games online," Harrison said.
The Xbox exec wouldn't give further details on how this system will work, but we're assuming that once you're done with a game, you can trade the code online and it will be erased from your machine. But what will you get? Other games? Microsoft Points?

The name XBox One is a strange choice, the Forza 5 graphics look on par with current gen games on the PC. So far the things shown haven't really changed my mind on whether I'll get one or not.
Wed May 22, 2013 10:10 am
Yeah, I'm not so sure. I was happy enough with the 360 in the last generation but I'm not necessarily going to go that way again this generation. The PS4 has made a pretty strong case so far.
Xbox One isn't backwards compatible with Xbox 360 discs or Xbox Live Arcade, Gamerscore transfers
Backwards compatibility would've gone a fair way in selling me on the One, a clear advantage over the PS4 since I obviously already have a library of Xbox 360 games. As it stands, I'll have to wait and see what both consoles show us in the coming months.

The entire right side is vented apparently. Guess they learned a weird lesson from the RROD's.
Though I have to assume gobs of dust will be getting through those.

"We purposefully did not target the highest end graphics. We targeted it more as a broad entertainment play."
so... you mean you just gave up and resigned yourself to a life of sub-par graphics?
we all saw the disc install thing coming. paying to have a friend borrow the game? that sucks. looks like the only way they could do a DRM type thing to prevent one person from buying a game and spreading it everywhere. oh and how much you wanna bet Microsoft will have their own Marketplace to buy & sell used games and take a cut for connecting buyers & sellers? taking away from the ebay/amazon/gamestop used game market. i mean, who the fuck wants to buy a new game, unwrap it, pop it in, and wait for it to copy & install onto your console? my god, some of the mandatory patch updates on games and the PS3 system itself were unbearable. i recently had to download 2 gigs of updates to play battlefield 3 after a long layoff. that taught me a lesson about playing games i haven't played in a long time.
and the name... don't they realize there was already a first XBox? I understand their need to call the second one "360" to match the 3 in the competing PS3, but it made this next name a bit difficult as Xbox 720 or 480 would still be a bit of an odd name as well. I think their best shot was using the "Infinity" name.
Wed May 22, 2013 7:06 pm
Yeah, the name definitely invites some confusion over the lineage, though I suppose the original Xbox will always simply be referred to as "the Xbox" or indeed "the original Xbox". In the grand scheme of things, probably the least concerning thing about the new console though.
Wed May 22, 2013 7:07 pm
Then how do you top it?
Everything about this screams endless corporate divisions endlessly focus testing on various aspects until someone set a deadline and they threw it together.
I see what they're trying to get at with the name, but... maybe XBOX PRIME would have worked better or XBOX CENTRAL or XBOX OBAMA I dunno nobody pays me for this.
Andrew wrote:though I suppose the original Xbox will always simply be referred to as "the Xbox" or indeed "the original Xbox". In the grand scheme of things, probably the least concerning thing about the new console though.
Or just ignored, Microsoft doesn't have much interest in it. It was designed to force their way into the industry and nothing more, which is why they abandoned it instantly.
I'd imagine the 360 becomes the "first" console in the lore ala Sega's Genesis/Mega Drive.
Wed May 22, 2013 7:39 pm
Or ignored by Microsoft, sure. I figured Q was referring to day-to-day conversation between gamers though.
Wed May 22, 2013 8:23 pm
What happened to games installing progressively? Like, all common assets and the first map/level is installed, and while you play it it installs the rest in the order you should encounter them to make the installation a seamless process? That would seriously help lessen initial wait time, and I thought it was a thing. Am I remembering it wrong?
Wed May 22, 2013 8:27 pm
Wishful thinking, perhaps? It's a good idea and would certainly make a lot of sense.

silly Ben, its always on so dust will never get a chance to get past the fans. The logic is infallible.
Wed May 22, 2013 9:36 pm
Definitely not a fan here as many have already said.
The idea of it doing all the "stuff" to make it so you only need one device i sorta get but...why? The only things I've ever used my xbox for outside of gaming is netflix and hulu. Do people really overpay for music and tv services on Xbox now? I feel like the majority of people use xbox for multiplayer and for netflix. I'd love to see some stats justifying these decisions.
The no backwards compatibility just seems silly and the fact that used games are now going to be kaput bothers me. Cant amazon, ebay, and gamestop work out a deal like netflix to make these fuckers happy? Isnt the extra money just going to go to MS and not developers? Hell, the whole reason I have an xbox is my cousin and he'd bring games I'd never play on my own. That's now never going to happen again if we stay xbox.
Finally, Kinect hates cripples like Green Lantern and I imagine with it being mandatory, more games are going to feature it. Fuck you Microsoft, you're driving me to PS4.
Xbox One has no games.

edit of the edit:
Multiple accounts can use a single Xbox Live subscription on the One
If you joined us for the Xbox One reveal yesterday, you'll probably know that amidst all the excitement, we learned that a single Xbox Live Gold membership will cover both the 360 and the next-gen console. Good stuff -- no extra expenditure, subscription sign-ups or other irritations. But, it gets even better, as a couple of Microsoft bigwigs told Polygon that Live memberships can also used by multiple profiles. That means several accounts can be created on one console, for discrete friends lists, personal Home screens and the like, but they'll all be able to feed off the same subscription. We're not sure how this'll work exactly, but it already sounds better than the Gamertag-specific membership model on the 360, which is responsible for far too many amazing kill stats being lost to the dreaded "Guest" account.
This image is JaoSmings, actually, he hacked my account and posted it. True story.
Actually he hit the edit button instead of the quote button and made the post. Scared the shit out of me. Still keeping it cause it's a funny.

chicagoRAW, LMAO.
500 gb. That's enough for 5 full dvd games(9gb) and their save files. Marketing the 1 and 2tb xbox one will be on it's way as soon as they sell enough initial units. That and the external HD.
No used games kills gamefly, and gamestop, and any other used game retail shop or rental company.
Going with AMD architecture basically means they went on a budget, instead of what they did with the 360, which cost more to make than what it sold for, initially. That is good for PC gamers, since XOne ports will most likely be optimized for AMD architecture already. So you can expect PC ports of the best games to run better, or so it would seem.
I'm sure they will have some way to use social apps on your phone or through the XOne to sign in to your account on another person's machine without having to pay to play the game at their house.

iirc at that time 360 was the buzzword for companies then when naming their products or services, as the 360 value represents their product or service of being the complete and full (circle) package. Yahoo 360 comes to mind. So the XBox 360 represents the full (circle) home entertainment experience.
I definitely didn't use the word 'gaming experience' there because I recall M$ marketing the 360 as an entertainment platform instead of a gaming platform like what they are doing with the X1 now.

I'm sure the XOne OS and its apps and updates will take up most of the drive. /mathfailzcoverup
