GRID 2 - aka How to Stop Playing Most Wanted (Summer 2013)

Wed Aug 08, 2012 9:39 pm

If I try to summarize the article, I'm just going to post the whole thing.

If you have any interest in racing games, get excited right now. This is going to be a very big deal.

I liked the first one a lot, although I really sucked at it. This one looks good, though I haven't liked many of their games since the first GRiD.

We're very excited about GRID 2 and now you can see why thanks to gameplay footage from both the Chicago track and the California Coastline 1v1 race. The quality setting on these YouTube videos says it's 720p, but honestly, if you think this looks good, believe us when we say it looks easily twice as good when you're playing it. Video compression shouldn't be allowed on a game this good-looking. Here's Chicago:

Despite the slight loss of detail from the video feed, you can get a sense of the handling of the cars, see how much smoke there is from the 1000hz-sampled tyres and imagine what it's going to look like when these beasts smash into the armco at 150mph. The damage is turned off here, which is why nothing happens when the driver knocks the wall a little way through the demo. Then there's the Californian track:

Difficult choice. I'll probably only pick up one of them.

Multiplayer developed separately for better experience, unlockables
Live Routes for city courses, essentially "randomized" courses, can be turned on and off
No driving assists at all.

Just noticed, Summer 2013? Guess I'll think strongly about picking up Most Wanted and revisit this one next year.

May 28th. Can't wait. Hopefully there's a bigger variety of tracks from the first one. Any news on demolition derby? Loved that mode in Grid 1, again hopefully there are a few more tracks.

Technically ∞ variety with tracks due to the Live Routes feature on city circuits.
No derby modes, tracks, or anything unfortunately.

read an article on that saying how the car doesn't account for more than 80% of that price, so $20k or so is for the suit and other crap.

but I am all preloaded and ready to go.

No derby mode (N) Maybe they'll put out a DLC with Demo Derby if enough people ask for it. But problem is, DLC didn't get released for PC for Grid. Did DLC get released for any of the Dirt games for PC?

Live routes seems like something that will keep you on your toes, but I don't know if it's going to mix things up that much.

More tracks, I guess I'm really interested in more locations. They can make as many tracks as they want but racing in like 4 locations gets dull after a while.

Dirt 3 got all the DLC
Dirt 2 was just cheats iirc

Grid 1 track/location list:

Circuito del Jarama
Nürburgring GP circuit
Donington Park
Istanbul Park
Milan
Le Mans
Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
Okutama Grand Circuit
Yokohama Docks
Shibuya
Mount Haruna
San Francisco
Washington DC
Detroit
Long Beach

Take out Detroit which was Demo Derby, there's 14 locations, same as Grid 2. Guess they can't fit more the disc? Considering they removed cock pit view and Demo Derby, would seem like they'd have enough space for a couple more locations. Hopefully there's some good DLC, because I know I'll play the crap outta this game.

Detroit had other tracks than the Derby iirc

There was a Long Beach track and Destruction Derby mode in the first game? I might just pick it up for cheap. the wikipedia page says that online servers have been shut down, so how is single player mode? would you want ot keep playing single player after you beat it? how is the replayability on the destruction derby mode?

So just got done playing Grid 2 for a couple hours....this is going to be one of those addicting online games.

I played a few of the single player races, but once I learned that multiplayer and singleplayer are split up completely, I switched. Single player seems more story driven than last time around, but there were choices with which race to go into. Money, at first, doesnt have the same meaning as it did to me in Grid 1, relying on eBay cars and the like.
Multiplayer is awesome. Nice asshole ratings for players that hit others too often, great variety of modes (mini-games?), and singleplayer leaderboard challenges too. Also rivals that are automatically generated.
This is one pretty game though, and it runs great on my rig. I have all possible options maxed and I get a consistent 40-50fps. Better than that, I have 5-8 second load times. The trackside graphics are amazing though, soooo many people in the crowds and other details off the track. Cars look great, handle ok, I have had more than a couple pucker up moments.
The main downfall is that it isn't sim. I have immersed myself in Forza lately and it has royally fucked me with this game, getting used to late braking and power drifting again. Still, tons and tons of fun, this is going to be played a LOT.

Monthly DLC

Beyond that, we’re looking at releasing DLC every month until October, ensuring that not only do you get a game that is packed full of content but you also get almost half a year of fresh new content to play, if you want it, the first three packs you’ll see below:

Super Modified Car Pack – June
Drift Car Pack – July
Peak Performance Car Pack – July

You may notice that some of the information for the packs above is located within the game, this is essentially the early ground work, text strings and hooks that make it easier for the team to add DLC post release without the need for a large patch.

I'd also like to take two minutes to put some fears to rest. First off we've heard a number of our PC players are concerned that any DLC won't be coming to the platform. I'm pleased to say that we will be supporting all formats with our content packs, including PC.

Also, PC

Super PC, its just the Grid 1 camera files in Grid 2. So you can take the amazing camera mods that came out before and just plop them in.....which is making me think if I can bring over Showdown's cars, muahahaaa.

I also love how their community manager over on the official forums is actively encouraging modders.
