That was really well done, good stuff. (Y)

Finished Dead Money, now just going for a few achievements and checking out a few things I haven't seen yet.

Info on the upcoming DLC packs. Honest Hearts comes out May 17th.

The first DLC pack, Honest Hearts, will take you to Utah's Zion National Park where your caravan will be overrun by a tribal raiding band. While you try to find your way back to the Mojave, you come between a tribal conflict with the New Canaanites and the Burned Man.

The second pack, Old World Blues, will release in June. In it you'll become a lab rab in a disastrous science experiment and you'll learn about some of the Mojave's mutated monsters. The DLC will take place in the Pre-War research centers of the Big Empty while you search for technology to get back at your kidnappers.

Lonesome Road, the final pack, will be available in July. This pack will finally bring the courier's story to and end when you are contacted by Ulysses, the original Courier Six who wouldn't deliver the Platinum Chip at the start of Fallout: New Vegas. Fans have been wondering when Ulysses would make another appearance in the series, and now they've got their answer. Lonesome Road will take you in to the depths of the canyons of the Divide, but the road to the Divide is one nobody has ever returned from.

Sounds good to me. Those are the only three confirmed but then a couple of extra ones came out Fallout 3 and an earlier report suggested there might be up to seven, so we'll have to wait and see.

As far as my own personal enjoyment goes, I guess I could actually rate it a perfect ten out of ten but being as objective as possible I think it's still at least a nine. If you played and enjoyed Fallout 3 then I'd definitely recommend it, there's more story branching, a heap of side quests and overall it's a bit more challenging.

I'd go for a nine as well. I enjoyed Fallout 3 quite a bit but as an RPG, it was very shallow. While New Vegas is glitchy and doesn't make a great first impression, it's an excellent game that brings back a lot of great things from the first two games but puts it in Fallout 3's engine.

Great game. Would recommend. It's pretty long and I'll probably go for a second playthrough this summer.

I'd have to agree it seemed to have more glitches than Fallout 3. They've released at least two or three major updates for the game at this point though so it's a bit more stable. I'd recommend multiple/staggered saves though, partly to account for any issues/corrupted saves but also for all the storyline branching.

Still havent got the DLCs for fallout 3

Anyway: my only dilemma with fallout is it's a game i have to set aside time for. So during the school times, it gets relegated to the back of my games stash because i just cant afford to get sucked up in it. My most played games (madden, nba2k9, Marvel Vs Capcom 3) are really easy to just pick up and kill a short time with.

Sure i know i can stop anytime and save but there's just some games that are much more immersive and therefore fun played in massive sittings, fallout is one of them.

So true. I can recall myself staying up later resulting in me being late for work because I wanted to keep playing. You can't just play for an hour. Once you are immersed, you just want to keep exploring.

That's definitely a problem with Fallout, "I'll just play for an hour or so" can easily turn into a much longer gaming session. It does speak for how good a game it is, though.

It doesn't really matter. It's a good game, but it's story is irrelevant to Fallout New Vegas's. Fallout 1 & 2 I'd recommend but they are pretty dated and not for everybody.

Much of a muchness, really. New Vegas isn't a sequel in the strictest sense, there's a few vague references to Fallout 3's story and it's in the same canon/continuity but apart from that, you're not missing any story or whatever by not playing Fallout 3 first. I think they're both great games and worth playing through with all the possible outcomes but I wouldn't say it's necessary to play Fallout 3 first to enjoy or "get" New Vegas.

Alright thanks. But out of the two, which was most fun? Which had better graphics? because I hear some people say Fallout 3 had better graphics although its older. And have anyone of you played F3 on windows 7 64 bit? I hear some ppl have had problems with it. Thanks

Graphics are about the same, New Vegas is probably slightly better on the whole in that regard. Both are a lot of fun and immersive, but there's a few different paths you can take in New Vegas compared to one in Fallout 3 (with a few minor differences here or there). They also introduced a few new gameplay mechanics in New Vegas such as Hardcore Mode (which is optional), a few additional combat options in V.A.T.S, stuff like that. Right now, I'd give the nod to New Vegas but before it was released I wouldn't have had any qualms recommending Fallout 3.

Considering there's been a few patches/fixes released at this point, New Vegas might make a better first impression than it did for some when it was first released.

Picked up the Honest Hearts DLC, finished it this evening. Still pretty detailed with a good story and a healthy amount of sidequests/multiple endings for an add-on, along with some nice new weapons. It's a lot easier than Dead Money but would probably still be fairly challenging for a lower level character and there are a few firefights towards the end that get a bit tougher. Quite a few of the quests (including the final one) can be solved with skills instead of gunfire as well, true to the nature of Fallout.

There's definitely a lot of stuff to check out and different paths to exhaust. I've made a few different characters so far, also experimenting with different character types. Having a character with a Luck of 9 certainly helps when it comes to getting the "Courier who broke the bank" achievement.

I've been playing this off and on the past few days...just as immersive as 3. Cant wait to see the story, more new towns, more hilarity (the hookers for the casino in freeside cracked me the fuck up) Seriously, I'd watch fallout as a series on hbo or showtime or something.

Just met boone and manny.

Made a third person after getting some MS Points to get the DLC's. Even on my third playthrough (though I only made it like halfway through my evil one), it's unbelievably addicting and taking over my life again. Bravo Obsidian, for combining the accessibility and immersion of Fallout 3, with the RPG elements and replay value from the first game.

What kind of character builds do you favour?

I must admit that even when I change things up a bit, I often end up playing the game a similar way. I've usually preferred fairly balanced characters, sacrificing Luck for a couple of extra points elsewhere. However, in one of my NV playthroughs I sacrificed strength for 9s in Intelligence, Luck and Perception (that was the character I used to break the bank at all the casinos to get the achievement, much easier with a Luck of 7 or more). It didn't change the game for me that much, it just made it a little tougher to loot since I couldn't carry as much. Of course, with a couple of companions that needn't matter.

Ironically, the name of my character is Asshole, but my karma rating is good messiah. I meant to make the play through as evil as possible, but I didn't see the benefit in most of the quests. So, I see what your saying, as I end up playing it in a similar way.

Backtracked to a save before committing to any faction so I could try finishing for the legion. Every time I try to go back to the fort the game crashes. Bummer.

I think it's a little harder to finish up as an evil character in New Vegas. Once you start doing the quests that involve heading into Fiend territory, you start getting a lot of good karma which balances things out and then eventually tips the scale. Because Fallout 3 tended to have Good, Bad and Neutral Karma options to finish quests with sizeable karma boosts/hits accordingly, it was easier to remain evil without having to steal a bunch of stuff or have the cannibal perk to constantly reduce your karma meter in between quests.

I usually go for Independent Vegas with an NCR leaning and good karma. I play differently each time but my builds are similar to yours. Strength, Charisma (just tag Speech) and to a lesser extend, endurance are sacrificed for godly intelligence and very good agility and Perception. I like having luck at 5.

The karma system in Fallout 3 was retarded. It was dumb having an evil character be revered as a saint because I didn't want to undermine the entire campaign by bombing the Citadel. Fiend territory balances things out here but I tend to wipe out towns for loot when evil.

I have well over 20000 caps saved up. Is the regenerative implant worth it?

I haven't tried out any of the implants as yet. You can certainly get by without them but I'm a believer in trying everything the game has to offer, so I'm planning on giving them a shot in the game where I have over 120,000 caps. That's the game where I've broken the bank at every casino on the Strip as well as the Atomic Wrangler, Vikki & Vance and the Sierra Madre.

The karma system in Fallout 3 was a bit flawed; it wasn't completely illogical, you can see what they were going for but it wasn't executed as well as it could've been. The problem is that the main quest was fairly linear and didn't have the branching that New Vegas does, so your options were more limited. If we'd been able to side with the Enclave, it would've worked out better. But it was their first shot at it, with the improvements that New Vegas has made I expect Fallout 4 will be an improvement once again.

Just ordered New Vegas. Hopefully it delivers. BTW...

If you had never played Fallout 3 and were just to buy and play Fallout New Vegas, with the current improvement patches also in mind...how would you rate New vegas out of 10?

8 because i ran into a couple of glitches that were severe. Otherwise its a solid 9 i'd say.

Fallout 3's a solid 9 as long as you didn't play the first two games. Basically Oblivion if Oblivion didn't suck. I'd give New Vegas a 9 as well. I like it a lot more and think it's a better game but I run into a couple glitches an hour.

Really? I get stuck in scenery all the time (happened like five times during that one quest where you need to climb that mountain to find that Kahn hideout), get a freeze every couple hours, and had a couple things break quests. Love the game (as evidenced by this being my third playthrough), but it was rushed

You already asked us that. ;)

For whatever numerical ratings are worth, I'd still give it at least a nine in any event. It's an immersive game that you can sink a lot of time into. It's a lot of fun.

Yeah I know I already asked but I asked in a different manner again because I felt like some people might give New Vegas a low rating because it is said to be more of an expansion of fallout 3 and not actually a true sequel. So I was like what if New Vegas was released with Fallout 3 never being released int he first place to compare against

Splitting hairs, really. Any way you slice it, it's a really good game.

Flip a coin to decide. This level of indecisiveness for a video game is ridiculous, imo.

To me it is a big deal if I play an inferior version of a game when the superior is just as easily available

New Vegas is better. Would make more sense for it to be called Fallout 3, and F3 to be called something like Fallout: New DC as New Vegas's storyline comes after and reference's Fallout 2's far more than Fallout 3's.

And we have mentioned that a couple of times now. Fallout 3 is a great game too but New Vegas has had the benefit of some of the original developers being on board and having Fallout 3 to build upon as far as the current engine and new audience is concerned. If you've got the means, I'd still recommend picking up them both and playing them because they're both fun and immersive gaming experiences but since you've already ordered New Vegas, I'd say that's a good call.

Yeah I'm looking forward to that too. That's Lonesome Road though, Old World Blues will take place in The Divide and explore technology/history of the assorted mutated animals of the Mojave.

Good God. Finally arrived after a long ass wait. Im gonna finish ME2 though first before playing this. I wanna peacefully transition over without feeling like I need to flip back and forth into games.

EDIT:

So I just started playing and it is ofcourse not that exciting yet because Ive just done only the mundane objectives and walking around so far.

I had a couple questions btw.

I have heard people having trouble with their Save Games. Since I am playing this game through Steam I would assume all the patches are up to date. Do I need to take precautions and make multiple save files for my game still?

And do you think playing with a xbox360 controller would be more fun?

I think most of those issues have been saved but as a rule, I like to keep at least a couple of recent manual saves on hand. Better to be safe than sorry and if nothing else, it saves you having to start over or have to re-load from a really old save if you mess something up or happen to save/autosave when you've gotten yourself into a tough spot.

After originally playing Fallout 3 on the Xbox 360, it took me a bit of getting used to the keyboard/mouse controls when I picked up the PC version but now I'd say it's my preferred method, more precise than fooling around with the analog sticks.
