how does one edit a DVD?

my friend wants to screw around with adding subliminal messages to DVDs. i figure he needs to upload the DVD to his 'puter, edit it there and then burn it onto another disc. anyone know anything about this? does he need any hardware other than a shitload of memory? how much memory does he need? what kind of software could be used? is this even feasible?

thats an awful lot of processes to go through for a couple of frames with subliminal messages...

first you'd have to decrypt and copy the dvd to your hard drive, which usually takes up about 4-10 gigs... not to mention that copying/decrypting is also illegal, but if you're up for it, the software can be easily found, even by searching on google.

then you'd probably have to edit the video files manually with some software that i am not sure exists at all... and save those files in the dvd format...

and last but not least, you need to have a dvd burner, hardware that doesn't usually come with regular computers, and costs quite a few bucks...

i dunno if this helped, but i'd tell your friend his idea just isn't feasable, since its all just too complicated...

cool. thanks, i'll tell him.

i'm not sure if or why he doesn't want to do it with video or reel-to-reel, but he's a phd shrink, so maybe he's messing with frame rates and doing some kind of wierd, mind-bending experiment. at any rate, i'll pass the message along and thanks again.
