It's all online multiplayer, yes. It can be played solo, which is to say you don't have to team up with anyone and can go it alone, but you will encounter other people as you play. There's no offline/single player mode.

Have you played Fallout 3/New Vegas/4? Think of it just like that without human NPC's(raiders and factions or roaming settlers) or faction quests, which I really miss in this online game. There is dialogue, but nothing like the single player Fallout games. Most quests come from terminals and notes left behind by dead NPC's, a well as robots. I did run into a Super Mutant who was a traveling friendly merchant, which was pretty cool. There are "live events" which have timers to them, PVP is "opt-in" by shooting someone back after they shoot you which enables "full damage" rather than "slap damage." Check out some Twitch streams or something.
Everything is a copy of a copy. Eventually, it distorts enough to look original.

Good to know. I own New Vegas and Fallout 4.

Seeing more and more glitches on PC right now...
The patch helped a little on performance I would say, but it wasn't really worth the 15GB download either (although I know that was much worse on consoles...). Still a lot of weird physics and animations, with scorchers teleporting or becoming completely immobile and impossible to kill. Right now I just had to exit the game because it got all whacky when I checked my Pipboy, with my character moving the left arm and preventing me from selecting anything, not even being able to exit the Pipboy menu, and eventually with a big black rectangle covering the entire Pipboy (even on the home menu after exiting the game)... :?

That's unfortunate. The 15 GB patch definitely is a big hit, good thing I'm on NBN these days or it would've taken all night to download.

I'm really enjoying this game, but the optimization is terrible. Here are some games I can run on ULTRA:

NBA 2K (All of them, including NBA 2K19)
Fallout 4
The Witcher 3
Batman Arkham Knight
Elder Scrolls Online
Borderlands 2
Final Fantasy 15
Etc.

With Fallout 76, I can't even run it on Medium without stuttering. I have an RX 480, and a good processor. I feel like I've tried every tweak imaginable to get this to work smoothly, and I just can't figure it out.

So I finally encountered a moron who decided he had nothing better to do but to kill me... Was minding my own business when he shot me in the back, he had a higher level than me and was just doing too much damage compared to my shitty weapons.
I chose to just respawn without seeking revenge, and it was as if nothing happened, with all my gear and all, so the whole thing really was pretty pointless and annoying.

So, you didn't shoot back? Sound like an exploit or a hack if you didn't. I've heard a case of someone 1 or 2 shotting someone without them shooting back and it sounds like it wasn't something intended by the devs.

Oh no I did try to shoot back, but being completely unprepared for that and new to anything fully online like this, I just couldn't switch to the right kind of weapon on time, which either way would have still been underpowered for what this guy had.
On a related note, I just found a guy owning a landfill with level 85, talk about having no life at all...

Gave up on this early January I think, not going back either. It was just complete nonsense on PC, a shameful release even for a die-hard Fallout fan like myself.

I've been keeping tabs on the updates, but I haven't been playing it. It's a shame. I'm open to the idea despite my initial disappointment in what it was going to be, and I still think there's room to experiment with genres and ideas within the Fallout universe. It just hasn't panned out, though; at least, it hasn't gripped me.

I did play a lot of it initially, much more than I thought I would (logged in about 80 hours I think), but when I saw that they couldn't even make it a somewhat stable experience on PC even after multiple huge patches (while making some of stupidest PR blunders at the same time), that reminded me why I originally wasn't going to give BethSoft 60 bucks for forcing some semi-multiplayer crap on us (and was still dumb enough to do anyway). There are way too many deserving games out there to spend another minute on this junk.

I haven't logged as many hours with it, so I'll probably give it another chance myself. I don't regret picking it up as I developed an interest in seeing what it was like and at the end of the day, it's just a video game that didn't live up to expectations. I'm hoping for another single player Fallout in the not too distant future, though. We really need another New Vegas.
