Disney and Fox Deal; The Mouse getting The Simpsons

Disney and Fox confirm major acquisition deal

Disney has announced it intends to purchase a majority of 21st Century Fox’s assets.

The news comes after a month of reports from The Wall Street Journal and CNBC, who alleged that Fox and Disney were interested in working toward a deal. A press release issued today confirmed Disney would acquire 21st Century Fox today for $52.4 billon in stock.

The deal affirms that Disney will own the rights to the “X-Men, Avatar, The Simpsons, FX Networks and National Geographic,” among other popular entertainment entities. Disney will also acquire 21st Century Fox’s 30 percent stake in Hulu, giving Disney a total stake of 60 percent in the company.

Considering Al Jean's unpleasant experience working for Disney back in the day, it'll be interesting to see whether the shots at them will continue now that The Simpsons will be under their umbrella. Fox obviously took a lot of the potshots on the chin over the years, but Disney might not want to roll with the punches.

Does this includes movies as well? Will we see an X-Men movie under the Marvel umbrella now?

Finally. Hopefully X-men movies will be done right from now on.

What's interesting will be all the simpsons themed rides and shops at universal studios and if Disney will pull that

Also, apparently there's a simpsons episode that predicted this

Yeah, another throwaway gag that's retroactively become a premonition.

i am sure this deal was mostly done so they can go after netflix with their own steaming service. seems most people are posting that they wanted the xmen but i really think thats just a cherry on top. the catalog that disney can put onto a streaming service now is just insane and having stuff like the simpsons is a huge win for them over netflix

There were already rumors of them pulling their movies from Netflix to do their own. They already had a decent library of their own stuff and you know people would sit there and watch Disney movies over and over but this allows them to have variety

As long as it doesn't all go in The Vault.

I'm not really a fan of this. Diversity within Hollywood should be encouraged instead of studios being consolidated in to one giant empire. Agree with the primary reason being Hulu's online infrastructure.

We're going to get a lot more franchise/reboots/remakes in the coming years with throw away one liners and quips a la Avengers/Guardians of the Galaxy. It's already happening with Star Wars.

Solid move from a business standpoint though. Next studio to crumble will be Sony most probably.

If they get the gaming division of Sony I'm fucking done.
