Dear LiveJournal,

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

I went to the eye doctor just to get a new prescription to replace my glasses, and I ended up trying some contact lenses for the first time ever. I've been wearing glasses everyday for 23 years and now I'm typing this from my phone without any glasses on...Sounds dumb but it's blowing my mind right now. I even bought some sunglasses for the first time ever.

I tip my hat to you, I don't think I could handle contacts. Fortunately I don't need them but if I did, I think I'd still opt for specs.

There's nothing to handle. You put them in when you get up, forget about them for the rest of the day, and then take them out at night. They're completely unnoticeable.

The whole touching your own eye thing is what would make it not happen for me. I cringe at watching my wife put them in and out each night.
Opinions are my own.

It's really not that hard. There's the initial stage where you're not used to it and flinch all the time, but it's perfectly painless and comfortable to actually do.

I'll take your word for it. Like I said, I don't need them or specs at this time so it's a moot point for me but like Jon I cringe at the idea of anything near or in my eye. I'm sure they are no big deal once you're used to them.

The doctor had me try it myself yesterday, and it's certainly very weird and uncomfortable at first, especially since you need to pinch the contact off your iris to remove it. Those are the flexible contacts that you can actually keep for up to a week without cleaning/moisturizing them, but yeah you can't feel them at all once they're on, it's crazy.

my blink reflex was too strong. I tried to get them in high school for sports. Even the nurse trying to hold my eye open couldnt get them in. apparently it runs in my family as my uncle and grandfather had the same issue.

It's kind of hard to manage working 30 hours a week in a job I am not too happy working, and doing the amount of homework I get from school which I usually do at the last minute. And yet I've somehow managed to get the grades I've always had (A's and B's), along with being able to keep my job and not failing to miss a work day for nine months. This is probably where the older people tell me life will only get worse from here on out.

You know one thing that's good about it? You get to stay on your job for nine months even if you're not happy with it.

Not necessarily. At some point you'll get a job you enjoy more and you'll have more free time. Sounds like you're doing a pretty good job balancing work and study, so juggling work and free time in the future will probably come naturally to you.

Knock everything out now because in the future you won't be able to juggle those two like you can now, and you will have to work a 40 hour job and be stuck there for years.

I personally couldn't balance school life and work life for the life of me, so I think you're doing a good job, Axel. Right now I'm focusing most of my efforts on study. If I had to work on top of that, I think it'd adversely affect my grades.

Of course, focusing on the one thing has meant that I've had to make a few sacrifices and lifestyle changes. I'm now on a student budget and live further away from everything, but I'm enjoying what I'm doing. Before I was living in the city, earning pretty good money... but I hated my job and I was pretty much coasting through it so I could get paid.

This is ridiculous. At least it seems to have been a different guy this time and GMail had a link in there to disconnect my email address from that GMail address, thus sparing me the dozen re-sent verification emails that would doubtless have otherwise followed.

I'm hoping that changes once I turn 18. Where I work, people under 18 can only work in the front-end (place where people check out when buying groceries), and so hopefully when I turn 18 I can transfer to another department. Working in the produce department seems like a job I'd enjoy much more than being a cashier, ideally that's where I'd like to go. Not to mention the assistant store manager pulled me aside one day and told me he wants to promote me to front-end manager when I turn 18. :D
badreligionau wrote:... but I hated my job and I was pretty much coasting through it so I could get paid.

That's kind of what I'm doing now, except that I haven't gotten to the point where I "hate" my job. On the plus side however, I get along really well with my co-workers and some of them are always good for an NBA or basketball conversation. (Y)

If you know how to manage your time, it's definitely not a hard task. You unfortunately don't have much leisure time which you can use to hang out with friends, play video games, watch NBA games, etc.

My problem exactly. There's a good 4+ hours of travel from home to my office, back and forth. I stay at the office for 9 hours or more, depending on animation work assigned for that day. Office schedule is from 8:30am to 5:30pm, I wake up by 4:00am to get myself food for breakfast (and lunch for that matter), leave home before 6:00am; I then get home by 8pm. I then sleep after eating dinner. :|

So basically, no time for everything else.
