Hope I don't disappoint.

I just finished a play through of both available modes in the demo and for the most part, I'm pleased with what I see. To be honest I probably could've gone with the updated, old school appropriate animations along with SDvRAW 2009's control method but the approach they've taken is alright, it's just going to take some getting used to. The main problem with the old school controls is that buttons have multiple functions so I sometimes found myself going for the pin when I wanted to pick up the steel steps I'd thrown in the ring (also by accident) but I'm sure I'll get used to it and actually bothering with the tutorial will probably go a long way in making sure I do exactly what I want...more often than not.
The main Re-Live, Re-Write, Re-Define mode seems like it'll be good with all the objectives to go for on top of the fun of the match itself and the introductions set the scene quite nicely. Should hopefully be enough replay value there with all the things you can do to get 100% completion of each classic matchup. Nostalgia's the selling point of this one anyway, so long as the gameplay is solid (and so far I'd say it is) it'll get the job done.
Presentation is good, as I said before I definitely like the variations in the overlays representing the style of the time, the arenas look alright and entrances are spot on. Does anyone know if HBK will zip down from the rafters for the Wrestlemania 12 Ironman match? That'd be a nice touch. I liked that the used the version of The Rock's theme that he was still using at the time, it brought back fond memories and added that extra touch of authenticity.
Good stuff with the managers getting involved, I played Hogan vs Andre in exhibition and had Bobby Heenan in Andre's corner. It's tempting to knock them off the apron but then there's the added risk of getting distracted by them while the opponent gets up and takes advantage and I was really impressed with the way The Brain picked up Andre's leg and draped it on the bottom rope to break up a pin. Much better than simply standing there at ringside and coming out during the entrance and doing hardly anything or nothing at all as is often the case in the Smackdown series.
So yeah, I'm still looking forward to it. I might play the demo a few more times to get the hang of the controls before I pick it up later this month, perhaps do the tutorial while I'm at it. It isn't quite what I expected in terms of controls, they've probably tried to assign too many functions to too few buttons for a real old school feel but again, once I'm used to it I'll probably like it more. No major complaints at this time, though my standards for wrestling games aren't nearly as high as they are for what I want out of basketball games.
And that makes five paragraphs of impressions.
