Top 5 Most Important Artists in History
1.Elvis Priestly
2.Nirvana
3.Stevie Wonder
4.Dr Dre
5.Eminem

Eminem & dr dre wtf

What about Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, John Lennon(solo) , the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Bach, Mozart & Bob Marley?? Even That pale freak Michael Jackson is more important then Dr Dre or Eminem. In fact there are hundreds if not thousands of artists/composers etc who are more historically important then Eminem or Dr Dre

Glove u can't have Nas Without Jay-Z.

You guys dont give love to female legends like The Queen, or MC Lyte?

by the way...oh boy Eminem Crushes Benzino on "Nail in the Coffin"

"If you so gangsta put the mic down/
You should be out killin muthafuckas right now/
Kill a Mutherfucker dead/
Kill Em Dead bitch/
Shoot em in the fuckin head/
Go Ahead bitch/
Slap My Mom/

She Can't Sue you/
She wouldn't get a buck outta you/

You're a fucking Joke/
If you really sold coke, then what the fuck you stop for, dummy/
If you sold some crack/
You'd Make a lot more money then you do from rap"

Ray Benzino...pffft! "The only Eminem(M&M) I know is Made Men"...Booo. Another wack one..."Im Not Moby, the puppet from the TV/ I bring glasses to your lving room so you can see me"...Booooo, Benzino Sucks

Sun Dec 08, 2002 12:39 pm

Vanilla ice made a huge contribution to rap by showing everyone how not to do it

the following also made a big impact

Public Enemy
Grandmaster Flash
The Furious Five
oh yeah mc Hammer was before ll cool j

Sun Dec 08, 2002 1:28 pm

Glove u can't have Nas Without Jay-Z.

My bad. Although I think that Nas is better then J, most of the publicity he got was off of the feud. But Nas's early stuff(Illmatic, It Was Written) was some of the best.
You guys dont give love to female legends like The Queen, or MC Lyte?

Yeah I guess I should've added Salt-n-Pepa and MC Lyte.
oh yeah mc Hammer was before ll cool j

My fault. I guess I always thought of the Def Jam rappers before people were singin "U Can't Touch This."

Sun Dec 08, 2002 3:34 pm

IMO Nas only had one dud. Illmatic, It Was Written, I Am, Stillmaitc and God's Son(Ive heard it) Are All Hot as hell....Who you know can make a sentence out of his albums in chronological order in a rap? "Since Illmatic It was written I Am Nastradomus"

I think Nas is better than Jay Also. But you gotta get Jay His props, esp. for Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint & Vol. 1. Vol. 2 Is What Really put Jay-Z on the map for the work, With Singles like Hard Knock Life & Money Cash Hoes.

Unstoppable...P. Diddy Can't beat anyone physically. Shit he had big guards beat on Steve Stout before he smashed Stout over the head with a bottle(?)...Anyone hear the tale of Puff & Mase burning a Wu Tang Flag then The Clan came and kicked Ma$e's ass while Puff became a ghost? Then Think about why Ma$e is now known as Pastor Mason Betha.

that's bullshit...the enter the 36chambers album changed hip hop...it created a new style...eminem changed nothing, neitehr did snoop or nas...nas got just 1 good album..illmatic...rza produced 361 dope tracks since 93'...

Mon Dec 09, 2002 7:30 am

Smooth obiously you dont liten to Nas

Mon Dec 09, 2002 8:40 am

eminem changed nothing

Where the fuck have you been the past year? Because or Eminem, rap now has way more listeners. Everything that Eminem puts his hands on turns to gold. He created a whole new fan base for rap. So don't say that Eminem changed nothing. By the time his career is over, he'll be one of the most important musicians of all time.
Who woulda thought; standin in this mirror bleachin my hair
with some peroxide, reachin for a t-shirt to wear
that I would catapult to the forefront of rap like this?
How could I predict my words would have an impact like this?
I must've struck a chord with somebody up in the office

Let's do the math - if I was black, I woulda sold half
I ain't have to graduate from Lincoln High School to know that
But I could rap, so fuck school, I'm too cool to go back

See the problem is, I speak to suburban kids
who otherwise woulda never knew these words exist
Whose moms probably woulda never gave two squirts of piss
'til I created so much motherfuckin turbulence!
Straight out the tube, right into your living rooms I came
And kids flipped, when they knew I was produced by Dre
That's all it took, and they were instantly hooked right in
And they connected with me too because I looked like them

it's not about more people listening to rap,it'sn not about selling records,it's not about havnig the most videos on mtv..it's about good music...

majafiggaz:
nas definately is one of the ebst mcs of all time...but he doesnt get the best beats (illmatic exclused of course)...nastramdamus for example is one of the worst albums of all time...god's son seems to be a nice album,though..u already checked it out?

Tue Dec 10, 2002 8:07 am

it's about good music...

If Eminem only made songs like "My Name Is", "The Real Slim Shady" and "Without Me" then he wouldn't sell shit. It's the deep stuff "Way I Am," "Hailie's Song," "Kim," and "Sing For The Moment" that people like the most. His song writing is unbelievable. I haven't heard any greater lyrics since 2Pac. And of course he was produced by Dre who has very good beats. And having more people listen to it is important. Eminem opened up a whole new fan base for rap. No other rapper has done that. That's what some of those lyrics were explaining.

Tue Dec 10, 2002 9:59 am

Couldn't have said it better myself gloveguy. All of Eminem's quality shit is the stuff he doesn't release as singles. Most of his songs that he has released are the worst songs on the CD. On the Eminem Show he has released "Without Me" and "Cleanin out my Closet" which both suck compared to "When the Music Stops", "Superman", "Say What you Say" and "My Dads Gone Crazy". If he released them he would have even more fans.

Tue Dec 10, 2002 2:33 pm

I gotta change my opinion on God's Son... Pretty dissapointing to me after a couple of listens. I can honestly say 8 of the 17 songs are hot...Num 5 is one of the worst rap song's i've ever heard.

Num 4 is hot as hell though as Nas sheds light on everything from big, Pac, jay-z, jaz-o, & Wu-Tang. Thugz Mansion with Tupac is hot as hell even though its a different version then the ones on 2Pac's CD Beter Dayz...The Warriors Song with Alicia Keys is hot, and Revolutionary Warfare with some guy named Lake is also tight...My Fav song on there is num 7, I Can. Its got the nice piano sample(Can't think of the name, but you'll know once u hear it...I think its some beethoven sample)

Wed Dec 11, 2002 8:14 am

His [Eminem's] song writing is unbelievable. I haven't heard any greater lyrics since 2Pac.

Let's not get it twisted. Tupac was never really what I would refer to as a great lyricist, in fact, I'd say shady eclipsed him in that category an album or so ago. Please do not forget, that Pac, born in B-more then transplanted to NY was actually not even a great rapper in the early going. I'd hardly refer to "Brenda's got a Baby", "a soldier", and "I get around" as lyrical gems. Moreover, he was a "roadie" with Digital Underground, appearing on hooks and playing the background for most of the early going. It really wasn't until he we westward [after a jail bid] that he gained acclaim. In fact, on the east he was light years behind lyricists like Rakim, KRS-one, Kool G Rap, EPMD, and the young incarnation of Big Daddy Kane circa 1988. It really wasn't until Pac brought mediocre to good lyrics [by east coast standards and after he tightened them up a bit before leaving NY] to the West Coast, more known for thumping beats and lacking lyrics, that Pac began to get noticed. Then add Dre, a re-kindled passion for rap, an uncanny and prolific song writing period, and Viola, you have a solid rapper with a list of songs that's miles long. But I believe, West Coast rappers not having exposure to an east coast brand of rap [from a rapper who ironically claimed the "westside" though he was actually from the heart of the east], was the perfect meeting of preparation and opportunity and Pac was no fool and took full advantage of it.

Its for these precise reasons, and others, that he's not number 1 on my list though I could see how some people could qualilfy him for that position and even make cogent arguments for that placement. But you have to understand, that Pac's lyrics really weren't that earth shattering by east coast standards and I believe had any of the guys I mentioned [e.g., Rakim who's currently with Dre, KRS-1, Kane] preceed Pac to venture to the west, he may have also experienced similar success. Though I imagine, the work ethic of pac still may have brought him greater rewards.

Best,

P

Wed Dec 11, 2002 1:57 pm

I can name many good lyricist since Pac's death, Namely Eminems main and respected enemy Canibus...Also Black Thought is a Lyrical Genius.

Wed Dec 11, 2002 4:16 pm

ras kass, guru, inspectah deck and gza are the best lyricists today...

Wed Dec 11, 2002 4:18 pm

Yeah, Maja I'm a Canibus fan. Many people can't really understand the metaphors that he's using in his raps, but if you can comprehend it, he's saying much more than just the run of the mill "blah..blah". His rhymes appear to take thought to create and he's virtually unrivaled on the freestyle tip, aside to of course [as you noted] his respected rival Slim Shady. And if you listen closely to Shady's diss of Benzino that was mentioned above, he actually pays homage to the Can-i-bus by telling benzino that if he "...can't understand what Canibus is saying" [in essence because his rhyme style is too complex for the average hip hop joe], then Shady asutely cuts to the chase and says "...its over", presumably closing the proverbial door on Benzino's rahter short lived and innocuous career.

The only thing I was really wondering though, and it appeared it bother shady in that song, was why even waste your time dissing a rapper with absolutely no clout? It actually drops shady down a bit for letting a clown like Benzino get under his skin. What are your views on that?

Best,

P

There is a certain commercial value..and issues pertaining to appealment to mainstream fans.Sometimes producers and other top heads decide what songs will be on a LP also.
