Universe mode just turned Mysterio and Cena heel. On the same day. Talk about unrealistic.

Bumped the difficulty up to hard, and now I'm starting to get those periods where it feels like whatever I do, I can't get a move in. On the other hand, I'm actually having lengthy, competitive matches which I haven't had in a while on normal, so I think I'll leave it there. The momentum is a pain in the ass, though. 'Taker, Brock, Orton and Barrett are practically unbeatable at this point.

As for the roster, THQ is touting the "biggest roster" ever in a WWE game. So far, confirmed players include: Steve Austin, The Undertaker, CM Punk, Sheamus, Mankind, Big Show, Mark Henry and Chris Jericho. The THQ website says the game will feature 77 playable characters - 38 Superstars, 7 Divas and 32 Attitude Era Legends.

38 Current and 32 Attitude....wow. Another controls revision? And "good" commentary? ha, believe it when I hear it.

Attitude stuff is good though, recognize what the fanbase wants.

What does that say about the current product?

On one hand, I really do like the idea of Attitude Era stuff, being the era I got into pro wrestling and a memorable era in the company's history. It sounds like it could be a lot of fun. On the other hand though, it feels like it should perhaps be its own game as it's taking a lot away from the current era. Imagine if NBA 2K12 featured a roster of all those classic teams but only the 16 Playoffs teams from 2011 (a la EA's Versus series prior to NBA Live). That's basically what we're getting here.

I'll still get the game of course and will probably enjoy it a lot, but I could see it garnering mixed reactions with the lack of contemporary content. I suppose they can always release DLC but like 2K12's Legends Showcase, that would feel like charging extra for stuff that should've been in the game in the first place. I guess we'll see, I'm sure the Attitude Era content will be popular (and I'm certainly not against it), but it would be nice to have it in addition to a deep roster of current talent.

As for the controls...well, they've really got to make up their mind and stop changing those around, but I'm sure it'll be easy enough to adjust. It always has been in the past.

CAW, hell, that is what happened to everyone who wanted to play as Sheamus a few years ago and Bryan the next year.

The Match Experience setting is awesome. My biggest complaint about the series has always been matches ending too quickly.

Agreed, it sounds like they'll be cater to everyone with that setting, with difficulty settings to further adjust the challenge on top of that. Good move.

Better weight detection is being implemented, so the smaller Rey Mysterio can’t body slam the 500 pound Big Show. In fact, super heavyweights like Mark Henry or Show now have different frames to better capture their enormous size. Pinning is now not only influenced by damage, but the power of the move that was previously executed. Non-tagged partners can now be controlled. Replays are being adjusted to be more relevant.

Those are also some welcome changes and improvements. Sounds pretty solid all around, I'm certainly interested to hear more.

That's not a bad lineup, the big names and current champions (with the exception of Layla) are all in the game.

Re: WWE '13 - Focus on Attitude Era

Thu May 31, 2012 6:27 pm

Mankind, Dude Love, Cactus Jack

They could have just picked one and used those two extra slots for a different wrestler.

Re: WWE '13 - Focus on Attitude Era

Thu May 31, 2012 6:33 pm

or sacrificed one of the 2 Rocks, 2 HHHs, or 2 Undertakers

Different eras, different faces/body models. As for Mick Foley's multiple gimmicks, I agree it's overkill but they're all a part of the Attitude Era. It would have been good if the game could've handled them as alternate attires of the same selectable wrestler (perhaps then you could switch between Foley, Mankind, Cactus Jack and Dude Love) to get another couple of wrestlers in there but it's still left the game with a respectable roster.

I think I am going to officially skip WWE 12 and just wait for those

You didn't end up getting WWE '12? How about WWE All-Stars? I gave the latter a miss and to be honest, probably won't even bargain bin it.

Re: WWE '13 - Focus on Attitude Era

Fri Jun 01, 2012 4:31 am

Didn't even play the demo (was there even a demo?). I never saw a $30 deal for it until it was too late (I think Best Buy did it), which is usually the price I pop on for wrestling games. I barely played 2011 though, so no biggie.

A WWE '12 demo or WWE All-Stars demo? I can't remember if there was a WWE '12 demo, come to think of it. Maybe not as I don't remember downloading and playing one. There was definitely a demo for WWE All-Stars though, which I did try out. It was OK, but not really for me.

Re: WWE '13 - Focus on Attitude Era

Sat Jun 02, 2012 2:22 am

yea I played All Stars, which was enjoyable, and reminded me to bargain bin the TNA Impact! game sometime (it uses the same tech) but evidently it was never available through download - http://www.gamezone.com/products/wwe-12 ... on-network

That'd be why I don't remember playing a demo, then.
