Sometimes I wish they'd give North Korea a World Cup to show the other countries how it's done. :P

As for the Brazil match, they were a little lucky to win. That penalty was such a blatant dive by Fred and it seemed that there may have been a foul just before the third goal. Unlucky Croatia.

My prediction of Neymar as best player is looking pretty good after one match. But if he wants to get to that Messi/Ronaldo level he has to stop moaning and rolling around on the ground after every foul. Just like Suarez did this season.

Apparently the loose translation is: FIFA has called the US regarding their hosting committee for the 2022 World Cup. It will not be held in Qatar.

Not sure why they would just give it to the US instead of re-voting.

As an Australian I'd say it's unfair if the US gets a second WC before we get one. Apart from the Arab moneybags, we were the only country to bid for 2022 that hadn't hosted it before.

Qatar
United States
South Korea
Japan
Australia

But judging by this quote from wiki it's obvious that FIFA would want the US to host it if Qatar is ruled out:

A report conducted by McKinsey consultants on behalf of FIFA, rated an Australian World Cup to be the worst in term of revenue. The United States were rated at 100%, Japan 73%, South Korea 71%, Qatar 70%, and Australia on 68%.

Yeah the home cooking was just obvious but it's always going to be expected when the entire tournament is their home field.

Every time a defender marks him tight he goes down :facepalm2:
It made me miss Ronaldo (Brazil) who in those same situations would force himself past the defense and aggressively dribble the ball to the box with bad intentions.

That moment when Neymar elbowed Modric in the head I was thinking to myself "As if the ref would have the balls to send off Brazil's golden boy in the opening match, when they are already losing". He scored like 2 minutes later.

And what about Olic trying fancy tricks every time he had the ball. One time he did it in his own half, turned it over and Brazil nearly scored. :applaud:

Fair to say the Croatian coach was unhappy with the events of the game:
@BenSmithBBC: Croatia coach Niko Kovac: 'we better give it up now and go home. We talk about respect, Croatia didn't get any.'

@BenSmithBBC: Kovac: 'If that's a penalty, we don't need to play football anymore. Let's play basketball instead, it's a shame.'

The U.S. was second in the voting and has known facilities and infrastructure, a re-vote threatens the possibility of another boondoggle.

At least the World Cup isn't the total clusterfuck the Olympics is. If having to take on a World Cup is the price to pay for never again getting the Olympics, it's a trade I'm willing to make.

They should just do it like the NCAA's and have each Group play at one location, then have the first two rounds at two other locations, then the final four and third place game at one more location.

Just to use Europe as an example since it has a shit load of countries to pick for hypotheticals, you have a bunch of the groups play in Belgium, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Greece, etc. Then first two rounds in UK and Germany, then Final Four in France. Something like that.

Qatar probably could have handled the costs if it was a multi-state Middle East setup instead of just one country. Hell, even Brazil would have benefited if it was sharing with Argentina and Chile.

Though I know there were some misgivings about the South Korea/Japan setup a few years back.

We've scored the same amount of goals as Spain so far Image

Keep lobbing the ball up for Cahill to beat these midget Chilean defenders in the air :cheeky:

We dominated the second half. Harsh to concede that third goal :(

Felt it might turn into a 6-0 game after the first 15 minutes, but we settled and looked solid after half time. Proud of this young team.

Think I might watch the Spain-Netherlands game now and see what the hell happened there :?

I shouldn't have watched the Mexico-Cameroon match, made me sleep through Spain-Netherlands and by the time I woke up the Dutch had 3 goals already to Spain's 1 so I just turned off the tv and went to sleep again.
Damn Mexicans and black people wasting my time. You can't order me to end racism FIFA!

Cameroon squad is so poor they can't even afford proper fitting jerseys, all of the them wearing too tight shirts that it would make Dwight Howard blush; also the squad almost didn't play in the World Cup because the players had a strike a week before over nonpayment of allowances.

Just wait when the NBA draft is finished Drex to change your sig when the Sixers draft either Parker, Wiggins, or Embiid

C'mon, dudes, I haven't been away that long. Maybe a couple years? I remember being here when the Sixers signed Elton Brand and then coming back when the Lakers lost in some playoffs. I just have a lot going on, last two semesters at uni, working, I'm going to be a dad in a couple months...that's right, you guys are going to be uncles :P

Back on topic, tomorrow is going to be a great day with 4 matches. I predict Colombia, Uruguay and Italy wins, and the other match a draw.

Watching replay of that sexy match between Spain and Netherlands.

Props to the Dutch for having the balls to use only 3 centerbacks in their defensive line (3-4-1-2).
I was anticipating which team was going to use first such a formation effectively and the Dutch didn't disappoint. Mexico doesn't count even if they have a similar formation (3-5-2)!

Spain is only 2nd to Brazil in dive attempts. Fact.

Van Persie knows how to give head.

Rainy football is good football. Learned how to do long lobs in the rain, anecdote!

Who's the black guy on the sidelines wearing a gold FIFA apron that hugged Robben after scoring a goal...

Two goals now with header attempts, insane...so those wearing FIFA aprons are the water/ball boys teammates who aren't the 7 subs, that FIFA required outfit look shite.

Fight! Fight! Fight! Flopping divers.

Casillas is just shite now, no wonder even when he came back for Real Madrid Diego Lopez still retained keeper duty.

lol Robben just made Casillas and the Spain defense look like idiots by dribbling inside the box.

So many attempts, if Arjen Robben isn't overpaid by his club or other teams he should be.

Don't know if Netherlands now have the answer to obliterate tiki-taka or Iker Casillas and the defensive line were just shite, I'm going with the the latter since Spain had some decent attempts. No offense to the good game the Dutch displayed, besides they are sexy like Jackal except RVP - he can suck a bag of dicks. (Arsenal fan here)

Thank Kobe it's a Sunday with the following set of matches, I can watch the first three hopefully. I'll probably skip the 2nd match if Suarez is not healthy yet to be in the match.
How nice of Google to display the match schedules in my local time just by googling 'world cup fixtures', no more time zone converting for me!

Aussie-Chili replay...

Disappointed in the look of the Chilean squad, I thought they'd all look hairy like Drex.
I'll just imagine that long haired player as Drex.

2 goals already for Chile, that was fast. That's what she said.

Oh my, sweet Cahill header.

Crosses, headers - the Aussies are dry humping the Chilean defense, if those attempts only went in then it would have been a full-on hump.

Ref looks like a bald and buff Tim Meadows.

That additional time goal for Chile aaawww Aussies...

I say the Aussies should recruit rugby players and teach them to play football as full/center backs, that would give the opposing offense some doubt and second thought in attacking the Aussie defense, then again the Aussie defense would have so many yellow/red cards because of the opponent diving.

Not a bad match to watch, more entertaining than the Mexico-Cameroon match before it.

Colombia-Greece has good football viewing weather, finally a sunny match.

Early goal for Colombia at 6 mins. could be offside but linesman missed it. 1-0

Fuck this Messi ad for Lays and Pepsi.
Fuck this World Cup song by Ricky Martin, wait no, it may be bad but it's still better than the official World Cup song by Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez.

FALCAO SIGHTING ON THE CROWD! LOOKS LIKE JESUS WITH SHADES ON! DEAL WITH IT.

Colombia goal again from the corner kick! 2-0
Colombian offense still clicking even without Falcao, just imagine if drug lord jesus was playing instead of being in the crowd.

Locker room shot of the other teams playing for today, looks like Suarez is playing.

James Rodriguez makes it 3-0 for Colombia in additional time! Commentator pronouncing his name as Ha-mes, wat no!

Suarez time! Uruguay-Costa Rica
Shite, Suarez not playing. Fuck this match.

So it's Puma that provided the Cameroon team with the tight shirts, same tight shite worn by the Uruguay squad. Stupid Puma.

Penalty conversion by Cavani, meh no Suarez. 1-0 for Uruguay.

JOEL CAMPBELL RECEIVING A CROSS TIES IT FOR COSTA RICA 1-1
I was wondering why his name sounded familiar then the commentator mentioned he's with Arsenal WOOT!
This might turn out to be a good match.

HOLY SHITE COSTA RICA NOW UP 2-1 WITH A HEADER FROM FREE A KICK.
2 goals in 3 mins. as mentioned by commentator.

HOLY SHITE SUAREZ MIGHT ENTER WITH 30 MINS LEFT IN THE GAME.
Eh no. He's not.

I <3 goals from set pieces.

Wow. That 3rd goal for Costa Rica just rolled gently to and past the goal line. 3-1

Suarez about to cry again like he did when Crystal Palace tied Liverpool with 3 goals.

Maxi Pereira with the first red card for the 2014 World Cup afaik.
Could be suspended for the entire group stage (2 games), won't matter if they don't make it out of the group stage anyway.
With Uruguay fucked it's on England not to choke away the opportunity in advancing past the group stage.

Now for some Pirlo action! Italy-England!

Re: 2014 FIFA World Cup - Discussion

Sun Jun 15, 2014 7:23 am

Solid game by Colombia. I expected a little more from them, but I hope they get going in the next match.

Great comeback by Costa Rica. I read in Twitter that Joel Campbell bought 100 packs of the Panini album and didn't find himself  Best game by Suarez, Uruguay needs him. Forlan played poorly and is showing his age.

Italy vs England up next, should be fun.

Re: 2014 FIFA World Cup - Discussion

Sun Jun 15, 2014 7:43 am

5 Liverpool players in England's starting 11, wow.
Buffon injured?! *flips table*

Raheem Sterling with his aggressiveness looking good with my prediction of best young player of the tournament, even though I want Italy to win this match.

Fatass Rooney can't run with Welbeck, Sturridge, and Sterling on offense.

Marchisio goal from the Pirlo fake setup! Italy up 1-0.
Pirlo doing sorcery again.

Sterling Sturridge ties it for England with the goal from a Rooney assist! 1-1
Rooney should know that running his fatass makes good things happen for England.

Some old man in England bench got taken out from the field on a stretcher.

Stupid internet, at least cable tv didn't die in the middle of the match even if both subscriptions are from the same company.

Mario Balotelli my negroe, scoring with a header from a cross to give Italy the lead and eventual win. 2-1
Sweet headers already involved in scoring goals in just day three of the World Cup, sweet.

lol at the pathetic corner kick from Rooney, seems like the English not only suck at penalties they also suck at corners now.

Even with a less than healthy Suarez I wouldn't be surprised if Uruguay wrecks England in their match.

Didn't bother to watch benji's team Ivory Coast against Japan...maybe I should have, highlights showed another goal from a header to give the Coast a victory over Japan.
Header header header header World Cup header (Y)

Who would have thought that Spain would be bottom of their group, Costa Rica would be top of theirs and Australia actually scored a goal.

Honduras begin their march to the title tonight :bowdown2:
