I picked Jay-z mainly because he's the only person from the roc on the list. But if Freeway or beans were there I'd pick one of them. 50 isnt all that great, he's a solid rapper, but nothing compared to Big. Easily the greatest rapper of all time, but you missed Wu-tang also, Eminem is also a piece of shit. But right now I think that Free will really blow up, his new album Philadelphia Freeway is really nice, but what puzzles me is the success of Jays Blueprint 2..theres a couple of really tight tracks on there, yet people now think less of Jay-z because of his only singles thus far, Excuse me miss and 03 bonnie and clyde. Anyway, Jays gonna be out of the game soon and beans is gonna take over the roc.

Hiawatha Rutland's decent...jersey chasers is funny. ;) I'll get those tracks to you sometime, yohance, they're funny.

Anyway, those of you who say Jay-Z is the best, well, he's good at writing rhymes, but he fell into the commerical rap quick as hell. Then he disses the quality rappers (ie 2Pac, Nas, BIG) by saying he's the best...

My favorite two rappers are Eminem because they can write great lyrical songs and have near to perfect flow. You left Outkast off the list, their first two albums (Southernplayalistic and ATLiens) were as close to rap perfection as you can get. I love Biggy's flow, and I like 2Pac's energy...but they aren't my favorite rappers, or even the best, in my opinion. Nas can do it all, freestyle, write songs without swearing ("I Can"), he writes the social-type songs that you're giving 2Pac so much props, and he wrote the "gansta" songs. Throw in the fact that he holds great respect for 2Pac and Biggy and calls them the best rappers. The same goes for Eminem, he does the same.

If you want to hear Eminem's real style, download "Infinite." It's off his first album which only sold about 1000 copies. His style is completely different than his current style - which is obviously that style because he needed to sell records - and he's slowly moving back to that style. Yohance knows what I'm talking about. ;)

I prefer DMX for the energy cause he gives it his all. I was watching MTS spends the day with def jame or something and found out that since X is asthmatic (asmatic, ashmatic???) he usually collapses just off stage, gets his puffer thing, and goes back on.

Nas can do it all, freestyle, write songs without swearing ("I Can"),
Glad there can be one rapper with at least a couple of positive messages. I like that song a surprising ammount.

Yeah but so does Tupac. Tupac's social-types didn't always have swears. "Brendas Got A Baby," "Keep Ya Head Up," "Unconditional Love," and "Dear Mamma" don't have swears.

if i want 2 listen to some loser going on about his enemies i listen to 2pac

It's people like you who piss me off. Judging Tupac by a couple of songs("Hit 'Em Up" and "When We Ride On Our Enemies") is just gay. Eminem does the same shit on every CD and comes out with a track everytime he gets dissed("Nail In The Coffin" for Benzino and that one to "Hail Mary" with 50 for Ja Rule). I give both of them my props for that. But don't disrespect the dead like that man. He was one of the greatest. You don't know if he's a loser. You don't even know him. Neither do I, that's why I don't judge him as a person.

Biggie and Tupac are the two greatest of all time in my mind. Biggie had the flow and rhythym in his voice and Tupac just spoke to the people. You understood what it was really like for a young black man or woman by listening to his music. That makes me respect them a lot. I like Tupac better though. He was a lyrical genius(I know Ive said that already).

I really like Eminem too. Not always the stuff he realeases as singles but the stuff on his CD's. I'm happy that "Sing For The Moment" was realeased because I really liked that. But he also has "Kill You", "Criminal", "Till I Collapse", "Who Knew" and "White America" which I really like. I downloaded the "Infinite" song about a 6 months ago from his underground CD "Infinite". It's hot. I gotta burn that CD.

50 is awesome. Not just "Get Rich or Die Trying" but also his first unreleased album, "Power Of The Dollar". It has some good songs like "Ghetto Qu'ran" and "Thug Love." He sounds so different, it's hard to believe it' him. Also his mixtapes, "No Mercy, No Fear" and "Guess Who's Back" are nasty.

I've got a lot of respect for Nas. Although it seems like he's trying to pose Pac with songs like "The Cross", "I Can" and "Dance"(to his mom), he just has respect. I liked his old stuff better though. "Illmatic" was one of the best of all time.

Mine would be neither. Most of the rappers on the list are quite horrible except for Nas, but Nas right now is horrible also. Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch, Tech N9ne, Jedi Mind Tricks, Deltron 3030, J-Live, Move.Meant. You should check some of those guys out.

Green How can it be about skills when you're talking about who likes whom in rap? :? Like i said...everyone is gonna have their own opinion based on the fact that we are all different. Who's to say just cause you think Biggy smalls had better skills than pac then you're right?..No..another person is gonna say Tupac had better skill. They are both right..know why?..cause there is no official judgement on rapping..the only official judgement is what each fan likes... and that my friend..is why it's about opinion.

Just checked this thread for the first time in a while and Eminem with 12, pac with 4, and nas with 2 is just stupid. I mean Eminem is pretty good (not excellent, not bad, just pretty good) but not 3 times as good as pac, and 6 times as good as nas (who's the other person that voted for nas?) I also don't think anyone's mentioned the pioneers, run dmc, nwa, public enemy (nice clocks guys.)

On a side note whose heard the in da club remix, quite nice.

I dont think you understood the thread Colin. No one said that Eminem was three times as good as Tupac or 6 times as good as Nas. The thread is about who people's favourite rapper is not who is better. It simply means that there are 3 times as many people who voted in this thread for Eminem compared to Tupac. People most probably voted for Eminem over Tupac because Eminem is still alive and receives more exposure than Pac does. Many people on this board may have missed Tupac's "glory" years and thus not know of him as much as they do of Eminem.

I understand the thread completely, but why would someone vote for someone they didn't think was the best, or at least one of the best. Tupac gets just as much exposure as ever, there's still specials on tv (tupac vs., and Inside Death Row were recently shown on much music, canadian MTV if anyone isn't aware.) It's still interesting either way, Eminem isn't that great. If he was black with the same skills he wouldn't be talked about half as much.

Because you can respect someone's skill as a rapper without liking their specific style. Think of it this way, you can hate Kobe Bryant and the Lakers but it's kinda rediculous to say that he isn't a very good player and that the Lakers have not been a dominant team over the last few years.

Yes but he still doesn't get as much exposure as a very ALIVE Eminem.

colin826 wrote: Eminem isn't that great.

That point is debatable.

colin826 wrote: If he was black with the same skills he wouldn't be talked about half as much.

Again, very debatable.
