Official NBA 2K6 Thread

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

IGN 20/20 - http://sports.ign.com/articles/646/646746p1.html

My analysis:

Firstly, a big one, their is not enough penetration, or drive and dish by the computer in the halfcourt . Actually I don't think I saw any drive and dish [wait I did, once my Marbury in the beginning of the NY vs Pacers vid], and when they did penetrate, they stopped and pulled up, their was hardly any FT attempts because the comp does not drive. I hope those global tendency sliders work well this year because the comp just shoots jumpers all day with perimeter guys.

Secondly, while that leaning fingeroll is nice, the players do it way too much, and from very weird distances from the rim. I like the layup, but I saw Joe Johnson do it twice, once from like 7 feet, Drew Gooden, Wade, Rip, Marion, Tinsley I mean geez, I don't see people doing that too often

The blocks are a little out of hand, David Wesley? Rip Hamilton blocking Shaq, and then Antoine Walker getting high and rejecting 2 shots in a row, mmmm we'll have to turn them down to 0 again this year.

The passing is still a little jacked, their's still the animation where a players hand goes one way, and the ball the other. Their's also way too many turnovers, the comp did this last year too.

Next, big men still move and run too fast, an example is Ilguaskas on the break, and they also still have too good handles. Ilguaskas cannot dribble the ball full-court like that. Bosh who has decent handles for a big struggles to do that, but only guys that can are KG, Amare, Odom, Nene, etc...can.

Another thing is that their's still alley-oops where the reciever doesn't even look at the passer, he just goes up and catches the ball behind his head. Nash to JJ.

With the spin move, they just kinda go into the defender, and their's no collision. They're basically spinning into them, and really they'd get called for a charge, or get stripped or something.

Now for the good:

The presentation was very nice, very, very nice. Their were a lot of new additions, and I like the new replay thing. Really though, I loved it, the crowd was great too, when players were shooting FT's an everything.

I saw some dunks that did look nice, though the players still don't curl their fingers after dunking, it looks odd lol, their hands are just straight.

The off ball movement is good, but I'd like more contact when using screens, and more contact overall. They need to do the 10 man mo cap thing EA did.

Catch and shoot also looks good, and I saw Jamal Crawford do this very nice one handed pump fake. The game looks like it can be good with some slider editing (Y)

WOOOOOOOOW

the video are amazing! I do agree with some of the issue you brought up, but I think it was CPU Vs CPU som maybe shot selection will be better when actually playing user vs CPU...

Anyways, after seeing these...LIVE's video look Crap!!!

I am so excited about 2k6!! Does anyone know the release date for Europe?? Caz 2k5 was shipped early February last year (with only 2 months left in the season...

That is an old build....

Beluba wrote:Hey guys, the 20/20 footage was captured from an older version of the game that had several known issues. A few of which you guys have already mentioned in this thread:

1. Blocks. In this build, we had just implemented several multi-player block animations that had not yet been tuned (we weren't taking blocking ability and height into consideration at this point.) They have since been toned way down and the popping in the air has been fixed. So don't worry, you won't see guards throwing Shaq's shot in the final version.

2. Big men run speeds were addressed.

3. 1-hand overhead lasar beam alleyoop passes were removed, and several new alleyoop pass animations with more realistic physics were added.

Also, keep in mind that AI vs. AI is not the best gauge of how a game actually plays. Video footage can make a bad game look great... but it can also make a great game look like a stinker. It's always best to reserve judgment til after you've seen and played the game 1st hand. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah we have PAL, but unfortunately the release dates are retarded... ESPN 2K5 came out months after the US release, so I might have to get my Xbox chipped so I can play NTSC games on it if I want to play 2K6 without waiting ages for it to be released here.

Anyone check out the shot stick stuff on FBF? That some real good stuff, that was a great idea by VC. The defense and the game still has the stiffness feeling, but I love the shot stick stuff.

If you watched the videos, their was a little too much fingerolling, lol, guys were doing them from like 7 feet away like Gervin. An odd thing though was this sort of stutter effect when Ridnour and Parker were dribbling the ball. The ball was moving really fast and it was odd. Something similar used to happen in NFL 2K5, so let's hope that's not a glitch, and if it is, it doesn't look like it would affect gameplay.

Yeah I like the shot stick, it will require some practice though...

I also like the new isomotion system...they added new moves.
The hopback, hesitation crossover, hopstep spin, in-an-out, half spin, they all look great in the video. I hope the system works better this year, cause last year it wasn't very good....but they have completly revolutionized the controls...so I am sure they worked on it.

So far the game looks great to me. I can't wait.

2K's players are all over-rated

isomotion is also not as smooth as the movement of freestyle

there are 2 new videos on the 2k6 official website, showing Heat vs Pistons.

To me, the gameplay looks amazing this year.

Also, the new moves look great, animations are wonderfull. Overall, the graphic is incredible. This game is gonna be spectacular.

Just check them out.

I agree, but I'll delay judgment till I actually play it. Isomotion still doesn't have triple threat options :?

the 2k series is awesome.. i'm really looking forward to the new defensive feature.. last years defense was pretty lackluster, it was easy to get scored on, and easy to score on the opposing team :\

I finally played 2k5...It blows NBA Live 2005 away in almost every aspect except defense is a bit shitty and shots go in way too easily. Does anyone know which sliders are the best?

Based on my experience with 2k5...I think 2k6 might be much better.
Bored.

Sliders for me are trial and error, I'm happy with mine but it took a while to figure them out. 2k games forums have sliders threads I believe.

Ratings like Live also a little dissapointing, Lebron for some reason is the 6th best mid-range shooter of all the big names.

Mid-range ratings
Dirk - 96
Ray - 96
Tmac - 94
Kobe - 92
Pierce - 92
Lebron - 91
Vince - 89
Wade - 88
Arenas - 88
Nash - 86
Iverson - 84
Marbury - 84
Manu - 84
Baron - 83
Kirilenko - 83
Bibby - 83
Francis - 79
Artest - 79
Marion - 79

Nash who is one of the best shooters in the league, has a lower FG rating than guys who aren't even pure shooters.
Lebron better shooter than Nash, Arenas, Carter, Marbury, Bibby, Baron, Manu etc. Wade at 88 for mid-range, and equal to Arenas, better than Bibby, Nash etc?
Kirilenko as good a shooter as Bibby? Bibby too low, he's a better shooter than someone like AI, he's about the same as Gil. More, but you can look yourselves.

3PT ratings
Vince - 88
Nash - 87 [he's a better 3PT than mid-range shooter?]
Dirk - 85
Allen - 83
Ginobili - 83
Artest - 83
Arenas - 82
Pierce - 82
Kidd - 81
Bibby - 81
Lebron - 80
Marbury - 80
Kobe - 79
Baron - 79
Marion - 78
Iverson - 78
Tmac - 78
Kirilenko - 75
Francis - 75
Wade - 74

Artest get's an 83 3PT rating for going 7-17 [41.2%], and Nash get's an 87 [less than Vince] for having the highest percentage out of everyone listed? Are they taking attempts into account or not, because with Artest they didn't, but then putting Vince higher than Nash [which he obviously isn't as a shooter] cleary shows they are there.

Ray Allen's percentage were a little down last year [still 37,6%], how can it even make sense for Artest to be as good a shooter, or Kidd being next to him. Even Live added some common sense into the shooting ratings, instead of just using 3PT%. Bibby a little low?

Ginobili is overatted, Marion has a 75 dunk, Nash and Lebron have high defensive awareness ratings, and Wade is way too high at 97. Ben Wallace is a 92 on defense and rebounding :?

I can't help but feel that the tendancy thing they've introduced might have something to do with this...

The rating system is different..it goes from 50 to 100...so that's fine for Big Ben

In some ways it could, but others don't make sense, and everyone has high defensive awarenss ratings, even guys like Nash. The lowest was 75 for Ray Allen, Nash had an 80 :?. I know he's MVP and all, but he can't defend at all....

It looks awesome to me...

Players tendency ratings could be a very bright idea if they work fine. Tired of seeing KG shooting only from the post? Now you have the tool to do something about it....

Everything else looks great.

All prospects from the upcoming draft have real pictures! :applaud:

That's a very nice news.....and there are rumours that the game will also include a name database so that rookie are actully called by name istead of numbers....This was in NFL 2k5, and since that development team has worked on NBA 2k6...then it's probably gonna happen. (Y)
