Official NBA 2K6 Thread

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

i picked up the game on Sunday and it kicks ass-especially the pre-game stuff, with the players arriving and the people coming into the stadium, then the key match up and the stretches. The Players shoot like in real life although i think the players are rated a bit high. So far i've found Live has more jerseys and a practice mode where u can run around and do what u like-i havnt found that in 2k6 yet. The Graphics r tonnes better on 2k6 than Live and so far i havnt had to change any sliders

heres some of the little things i didnt like about the game

-i dont like how you cant change your players shoes to real nba shoes in an association, and some players dont even wear real shoes, just the ones you have to create on your own, like i unlocked all lebrons shoes, but i can only where 1 pair in my association
-i also didnt like how you couldnt change your opponents jersey(well maybe you can but i couldnt figure it out)
-they have actualy pictures for the rookies( called caps i think????) but i hated how theyre pictures of real nba players when they were young(rookie season), just whenever i see my rookie, he looks like a young zydrunas ilgauskas, id rather have to pic than that
-i like lives message system better than 2k's, although the pda can get pretty annoying as well i still like it better than 2k's
-i love all the replays and the players at the half and the whole tv presentation, but something that pissed me off is that when theres a pic of a guy shooting or dunking, the ball is never in his hands, its always like 4/5 inches away from is hands, but not a big deal at all
-in the pause game menu i wish they had a substitution menu right from the main pause menu, i hated having to go to that coaching menu and then to subs just to check whos tired and just to make a quick sub
- the gameplay is pretty realistic but i cant stand the controls, it was a fastbreak, lebron bringing up the ball, the only defender back was i think kyle korver, i try to do a simple cross over, but he does a fricken half ass hesitation move and korver stops me and i have to reset my play...i just couldnt stand the dribbling in this game, and the lack of triple threat moves and stuff

but anyways its still a great game, i was bored so i felt like typing wat was on my mind

i would love for them to implement triple threat moves in the next 2k game. that's the only thing i really like about live, you get to make your own decisions.

Isn't double tap R an easy/surefire way to do a crossover?
I guess the controls are less specific(?) than live though

it is, but it's limited to only one crossover style. regardless, that's the only one i use when i play online i don't really find any other ones useful. mind you doobie is pretty good at doing a behind the back crossover to free himself up for a fastbreak, or an open lane.

the stepback jumper is where it's at

I noticed when I played this on my regular 4:3 Television the players look all streached out Vertically.

Then when I used my TV-in card on my pc and switched to letter box the players looked just right like they do on NBA Live.

So I took NBA Live and used letter box and the players look all fat an streached out horizontally.

Anyone notice this?

Ok here's the timeline:

Last week: I bought the game and hated it instantly. Dynasty mode etc is cool, gameplay sucked balls and I was bitterly disappointed.

Through the week: Tried to bring myself to like it, messed around with sliders etc but still wanted to take it back.

Tonight: Spent about 30 minutes on sliders and this game is fucking amazing. I swear if you get the sliders right it is flat out awesome. I had a game with the Cavs against Philly, I lost by 9 (it was close the whole game, never went beyond a 4 point defecit) LeBron ended up with 28/6/7, Ilgauskas 14/8, Marshall 14/4 ... Korver and Iguodala had 16 and 18 points, Iverson had 16 points 13 assists (he shot horribly but I thought it was quite realistic that his assist numbers went up, he still took the most shots on the team)... so yeah, awesome game now.

So Jae, do you recommend 2k5 or 2k6 for me, you're confusing me as hell.

2k5 if you're not good with sliders, 2k6 if you are.

Or just go to the 2k forums, that's where I found my sliders and they rule.

I used sliders at 2K forums and they sucked balls. I had to make my own to get a half decent game.

Using other's slider settings is like using another person's underwear, or something like that.

That's the beauty of *functional sliders, you can set the game to your own preference and realism.

* - Non-fuctional slider: Live 06's OFFREB slider.

started my association with the nets today
defensively, we're horrible. we let the trailblazers catch up from 15 down in the final quarter and they were even up by two with 10 seconds to go. lucky for me, I had VC and he nailed a three at the buzzer

34 points, 6 boards, 8 assists for VC
27 points, 7 boards, 8 assists for RJ
16 points, 10 boards, 17 assists for Kidd

i'm playing the wizards next, i'll probably get raped

just played the wizards, either i really suck on defense or i gotta adjust my sliders. anyways, i beat them 146-135. i have a horrible trend of shutting them down for the first two quarters, and then having the AI erupt on me the last two quarters. i also changed my practice schedule. it was a mistake holding "intense" sessions throughoutt he week, it just killed their stamina when it came to game time.

anyways:

54 points, 5 boards, 11 assists, 5 steals for VC
23 points, 6 boards, 4 assists, 5 steals for RJ
14 points, 10 boards, 26 assists for Kidd

arenas torched me for 51 :(

But you torched them with 54, 23, and a triple-double.

You really do need to change your sliders up, I'll post some of the stats from my Grizzlies Association a bit later for comparisons sake.

 i havent touched the sliders at all. the only time i've ever held my opponents under 90 points was when i was the heat, and i shutdown the pistons. mind you i play in superstar mode, and it was a crazy feat indeed.

I play on Hall Of Fame, I've only had the game for like two weeks so that'd explain the record:

1-6

Individual stats:

Lorenzen Wright: 4.2ppg, 3.8rpg, 0.7apg (he's only started 1/2 the games)
Pau Gasol: 22.8ppg, 7.8rpg, 1.3apg
Shane Battier: 7.1ppg, 3.7rpg, 2.2apg
Eddie Jones: 8.0ppg, 3.5rpg, 2.0apg
Chucky Atkins: 7.3ppg, 2.5rpg, 6.7apg

Team stats:

87.7ppg (25th in the league)
.484 FG% (4th in the league)
24.2apg (7th in the league)
39.0rpg (23rd in the league)
9.7spg (1st in the league, by like 0.1spg)
5.7bpg (11th in the league)
12.5tpg (19th in the league)

Without sliders I'd say my spg and bpg would be through the roof like it was on ESPN 2K5, I get beaten on the boards constantly which is understandable since there's virtually no rebounders for the Grizzlies... also explains why I lose so often despite shooting a good FG%, other teams get more second chance opportunities.

Schedule:

Game 1: Lost 123-107 vs Washington
Game 2: Lost 81-73 vs Dallas
Game 3: Lost 77-62 vs Seattle
Game 4: Won 105-69 vs Golden State
Game 5: Lost 89-88 vs Minnesota (McCants hit a game winning 3 on the buzzer :x)
Game 6: Lost 97-91 vs Sacramento

So you can kinda see as the season goes on and I get used to the game the scores become more realistic... sliders make such a massive difference, I like the fact that the team reflects the guys on the court aswell. It'd be pretty stupid if I had a frontcourt of Gasol and Wright and was dominating on the boards... also helps when you're drafting.

Dammit! In my Association, I (CLE) was playing Miami. We were down by 21 at half time, but went on a 25-4 run in the second half and eventually the lead. Then with the game on the line with 5.2 seconds down by 2, I inball to LeBron, he drives to the rack for a dunk but gets fouled. He goes to the line and...BRICK! Clanks the first FT, so I had to miss the second one on purpose cause there was only 1 second to go. So I missed, didn't get the board and we lost, 122-120.

Dammit LeBron. I guess we could say the game is realistic.

BTW, I edited Kobe's ratings including his tendencies and he now has realistic averages. He's had multiple 50 point games and averages around 37 I think. One thing is that rebound per game numbers are unusually high for guards. Guys like Wade are getting 8 per game. I think Live 04 had the same thing.

yeah, the rebounds are kinda high. wade is averaging 8 rebounds, while paul pierce is almost averaging a triple double with 34, 9 and 9. kidd is leading my team in rebounding with 8 per.

i finaly bought the game, and im loving it so far, still need to fix afew things with sliders (fast break and 3pt shots taken/made), but i was wondering how you do triple threat moves like the jab step and the protect the ball??? ive never seen the cpu ever do them, but i know they exist because it talks about them in your VIP tendencies thing

You have to hold L1+R1(PS2) L+R(XBOX) together and move the analog in different directions to do them.
