Anyone out there into PC gaming over the age of 30?

Fri Jun 20, 2003 2:03 pm

Just wondering, i was looking through Mad Skills thread on how tall and how old everyone was. It feel like im the only elder statesman playing this game. Oh well. :)

Fri Jun 20, 2003 2:34 pm

And how old are you?

Yeah, the average age seems to be somewhere bwtween 14-18, teenagers. And we're all guys too. One girl joined the old forum on nbalive.org but that's it.

Fri Jun 20, 2003 3:42 pm

My bad? I forgot to mention that i was 31. Thats what old age will do to ya. lol.

Fri Jun 20, 2003 4:01 pm

Hahaha, youre' over twice as old as me, I'm just 14. When do you play when you're 31, I mean what kind of job do you have that's gives you enough time to come here and play Live and (I'm assuming) other games as well?

What Colin do you think everyone who is no longer at school has no time for games? That is silly.. I actually have more time now than when I was at school... I also know many gamers who are over 30..

Infact alot of games these days are aimed at an older demographic.. compaines are finding that the 25-35 year old age bracket have incomes to buy the games and still enjoy playing games...

I am sure I will be playing games well into my 30's .. hell my Father in law hooks up for LAN games of Unreal deathmatch and he is 60... Games are not just for young kids.. :P

That 25-35 demographic is probably doing better just because back when video games started they were the prime players, and they want to continue. Some of my friends dad's don't have time for stuff like this because they work, then again I live in a richer area of town (West Van, ask someone like BishiBashiBoy, sorry if I spelt it wrong) and lots of people work extra to make the money to stay here, so that my be the cause. Anyways look at me, if he has as much time as me I'll be shocked (right now I have a lot though because it's summer break.) I'm here a lot as you can tell.

Actually, i just play Live during basketball season, then Madden during football season. I just stick to sportsgaming, thats all. I dont bother with Triple Play because baseball season is just too long. I dont have that much time on my hands. Yeah, i never grew out of playing video games, i can go as far back as Atari & Intellivision, back then we didnt have the luxury of PC gaming.

Colin, since you inquired about my job occupation,i'm unemployed at the moment. But i do live in a financially stable area in the suburbs of Chicago(Burbank). I've been in the work force for 11 years, so ive paid my dues. See, the trick is when you get old enough to have a job, if ya work there for a extended period of time you receive something called UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION, in other words, free $$$$$$$$$$$$$$! Its a beautiful thing, especially considering how bad the economy has been. Anyway, its not like i play the game 24-7, all i do is pop in every so often just to see if there are any updates that can bring more realism to my game, thats all. Believe me , i still find time to enjoy life other than sitting in front of a computer playing Live. I'll admit it's been a spoiled life, but Colin,(son), dont hate on your elders, congradulate. But i appreciate your concern. Later.

I'm looking forward to the days that I can come home and play NBA Live/Girlfriend or Wife-Live without worrying about homework...

Fri Jun 20, 2003 9:57 pm

I dunno... there are plenty of older people still gaming... not just the 14-18 demographic... hell, Steve, probably the best shoe patcher for NBA Live series ever, is a teacher, works at a school, and is in his 30s I think. Don't forget DANet, he's in his late 20s as I recall... and then there's LegoSHAQ :D

I'm 21... and I'll probably keep on playing games as long as I have a working computer...

I'll play games until I physically can't, I just hope I don't get arthritis. Didn't know Steve was that old, but still, most gamers aren't over the age of 30, yet there still are quite a few. Seems like a lot more when you get the opinion from a gaming forum. Plus all the older people I know who play games want to go all out and buy the console because they figure it's better, so they don't really do things like patching either.

Well, I'm 23 years old and I enjoy playing sports games, majorly NBA Live and the FIFA series... I got a life too, though I don't have this insurance thing ( :) ), but I'm about to graduate, at the end of next year, and I earn some money by doin' scientific research down there at uni... I think I'll keep playing games as long as I keep in touch with the "real" NBA too...

Exactly my thoughts... There will be a day when I arrive from work and there is my son, wearing cornrows, tattooed till the bone, listening to some rap music, waiting for me to kick his ass with the Clippers... lol

what about if u reach 110 years old

Mon Jun 23, 2003 4:13 am

I'm 21 also....started in the live series since i was about 10 or something. Starting in the nba live community since my teens..heh. I look alot older than 21 though....my current gf is like 27..she thought i was around her age when we first met. She thinks i spend too much time on the pc ... cause i'm mostly gaming or patching. (what does this have to do with the topic)

Mon Jun 23, 2003 7:04 am

i'm 19 so :D , i think its kinda cool, still playing games, im sure i would do that too, only a lil less fanatic though :)

Tue Jun 24, 2003 11:57 am

Yeah i think it's cool to keep gaming as you get older it's just that you priorities seem to change a little (well mine have anyway). When i was 13-14 games were my life and i would play everyday and for hours on the weekend but now it's like i use games as an escape or release from real life. Right now i probably only play games 3 or four times a week depending on how busy i am with work, gf and playing real bball. As far as i see it there are plenty of worse hobbies in the world (gambling, sniffing glue :D etc).

Mind you i still get as excited as a 5 year old kid when a new bball game is coming out. :P

I will be 30 in march. this is kind of as i figured. it seems like im older than average here.

my rap is that i work forty-ish hours a week, i have a four year-old kid and nba live is a good hobby for me cuz a) i like to do creative stuff like patching, b) i'm a hoophead, and c) i like having an escape from regular life that doesn't involve me not being home with the old lady and the brat.

Sun Jun 29, 2003 12:19 am

I'll be 21 in September, but I'll probably keep playing and patching until whoever I marry makes me stop...it depends on my time, too, the field of teaching is a very time intensive field...I'll have time, I'm sure of that, I just don't know how much time.

I'll probably keep gaming for a long time, as my brother works for a game company (cheap plug: www.ritual.com - buy Star Trek: Elite Force 2) and he's hooking me up with any game they make since he only has to pay $5 or so for 'em...he's good (one of the few people that didn't get laid off), so he'll be in the industry for quite some time...gaming's in my blood. :) My old geezer parents still play games, be it those stupid online games, but they do...my dad's almost 60, my mom's in her early 50's...I'll be around a while, so if ya hate me, too bad. ;) You'll grow out of it :D

me too, it's an outlet for me. The only difference now and when I was a snotty nose freshman in college is now I can actually afford the games.
