I'd depend more on whether is GeForce or ATI, in which case I think GeForce is more stable. I have an ATI 9600XT and it's given me my share of problems.

i have a ATI Radeon 9250, 512 ddr ram, and all of my games are smooth running no problems and very enjoyable.

Ati is actually more stable then the Nvidia line.

The 9600xt is notorious for its instability, i should know I'm using one too (N)

That may be true, I actually wasn't general enough in that statement because all my video card knowledge comes from researching video cards to run an OpenGL game (in which at the time ran more stably(sp) with Nvidia).

I wish I had heard that from someone before I bought it, I only heard good things about it basically. :\ I even think it might be the one to blame for my computer restarting sometimes, that happens to me and the messages say it's from a device driver. I'm too lazy to really go after it though.
