Post your All-Time MLB Team

Sun Jul 03, 2005 5:59 am

You can include negro leaguers if you want. Just cut and paste my team to get the format for it. We are using 8 starting pitchers because of how many great starters there have been compared to great relievers. You can use ANY player at DH, use a pitcher if you want to.

STARTING LINEUP:

C: Ivan Rodriguez - Pudge gets the nod over everyone else due to being the best all-around catcher.
1B: Lou Gerhig - Great fielder, hitter, person. With 493 homers and a .340 AVG there really is no other choice.
2B: Roger Hornsby - Tough choice between him and Alomar. He gets the nod for the average and two triple crowns.
3B: Mike Schmidt - Best home run hitting third basemen ever.
SS: Cal Ripken - 3184 hits and 431 homers. Tremendous player with insane endurance.
OF: Babe Ruth - The greatest baseball of all-time, nobody comes close.
OF: Willie Mays - The greatest field of all-time, amazing home run hitter and great speed.
OF: Ty Cobb - 4189 hits, .366 AVG, 892 steals, 1937 RBI's, 724 doubles. There's a reason he was the first person in the HoF.
DH: Hank Aaron- 755 homers, 2297 RBI's, 3771 hits. Offensive production at its finest.

BENCH:

C: Johnny Bench - Bench gets the nod over Piazza for the 389 homers and 2 MVP's.
1B/3B: Jimmie Foxx - 534 homers, 1922 RBI's, .325 AVG, 3 MVP's, one triple crown. Underrated as fuck.
2B/SS: Honus Wagner - 3145 hits, 1732 RBI's, .327 AVG, 722 steals, 252 triples, 640 doubles. Best hitting SS ever.
OF: Barry Bonds - Not for the 700 homers, but for being the only member of the 500/500 club and 7 MVP's.
UTIL: Frank Robinson - 586 homers, 1812 RBI's, a triple crown, and is the only player to win MVP in both leagues.

STARTERS:

SP: Roger Clemens - Six time 20 game winner, 7 Cy Young's, 2nd all-time in strikeouts. Best pitcher of 5 man rotation era.
SP: Walter Johnson - 417 wins, 3509 strikeouts, 2.17 ERA. 110 shutouts. Amazing numbers for being on shit teams.
SP: Cy Young - 511 wins, 2803 strikeouts, 7354.2 IP, 749 comple geames. There's a reason its the Cy Young Award.
SP: Warren Spahn - 363 wins, 2583 strikeouts, 3.09 ERA. Greatest left hander of all-time.
SP: Nolan Ryan - 324 wins, 3.19 ERA, 5714 stikeouts. Nobody will ever get 5000 strikeouts again let alone 5714.
SP: Tom Seaver - 311 wins, 2.86 ERA, 3640 strikeouts, 3 Cy Young's. Amazingly talented pitcher.
SP: Randy Johnson - 4161 strikeouts, 3.07 ERA, 5 Cy Young's. One of two pitchers to win 4 straight Cy Young's.
SP: Satchel Paige - Estimated to have over 1500 wins, 300 shutouts, and 50 no hitters in National Negro Leagues. Once pitched a MLB game at 59. Endurance and longevity at its finest.

RELIEVERS:

RP: Rollie Fingers - 341 saves, 2.90 ERA, first closer to win Cy Young and MVP. First to win them both in the same year.
RP: Dennis Eckersley - 390 saves, 2401 strikeouts. Along with Rollie Fingers, he is the only closer to win MVP and CY Young in the same year. Greatest closer of all-time.

MANAGER:
Manager: Earl Weaver - He gets the nod over Lou Pinella for having a bobble-head made with dirt kicking action.
