Five Things I Didn’t Get About Making Video Games (Until I Did It)

Not me. Anthony Burch, who worked for Gearbox Software on Borderlands 2, and before that, wrote for Destructoid.

I think it's a great read, one that highlights the disconnect between gamers and game developers, and the problems with criticism that's overly caustic for the sake of being nasty. That's not to say we shouldn't demand value for our money or refrain from expressing displeasure, but we have grown accustomed to using our own buzzwords and generic personal attacks like "lazy developers", with an assumption that the people making video games don't care about the quality of the product. At times, we definitely think we know more than we do.

"They stole my gimmick!"
"And you stole it from Cracked!"
"Huh...well, moving on..."
