First Ever Banner

Postby CBLCommish on Thu Jul 07, 2005 8:51 am

Well, I was able to get Adobe Photoshop 7 on my computer and I finally made my first banner. I followed a tutorial on pixel2life and customized it myself once I got the hang of the tutorial. What do you think?

I've added another banner . .

You all can see the evolution of my skill right in front of your eyes.

I just went crazy with this signature, this is by FAR by best work ever. This was all from scratch too . .

It looks nice, but did you just render clouds & add the red color? Atleast that's how it looks a bit to me.

Pixel2life is great, there should be more stuff around, but for a first time it looks nice, just keep going now. :)

Not that I'm an expert or anything, you'd have to take that up with Colin.

I just added a lot of layers, played with some Grunge brushes I downloaded, it's hard to explain, but that's basically the 'gist of it. I tried my best, I'm going to keep practicing, I was encouraged with what I was able to do.

I can see how you did it. Not bad, pretty good for a beginner actually. Just keep messing around with brushes, opacities and blending modes until you get something you really like. You don't have to stick to form in anything you do in Photoshop for the most part, just tweak it until youl like it.

Yeah, I'm going to download some more brushes and just keep playing around with it. Practice makes perfect.

My advice would be try not to use too many fonts in 1 graphic.

Alright . . I'm assuming your talking about the Hawks signature, I wanted to at least give some recognition to the Old/New School change. Ahh well, your advice is heeded.

It's not like I'm a graphics expert, but I just think three different fonts do not go together in one signature, at least not those three.
I have to admit though, it's not bad at all for your third or fourth sig, pretty good man. (Y)

The Gordon one is pretty good, but I (myself) aren't real fond of the inner/outer glow on players unless it's real big. Anyway, save your jpgs in higher quality.

When you select "Save as...", select a number like 8-10 when youhave to fill out that number of jpg quailty.
If you save with "Save for web" pick "jpg high".

In Photoshop, when you're done working on an image, go to File, then click on Save As For Web...(alt + ctrl + shift + S)

Then you'll get this screen:

Mess around with the quality bar and save it to wahtever type you want it, et voila. High quality pics. That's Photoshop CS btw.

I'd just like to add to that, you can lower the quality to about 60 without actually losing too much. That's only if you have to squeeze the file size down though, obviously you want it as high as possible without being over your chosen size limit (here's it's 50kb).

If saving in Photoshop, you can just specify the size you want your file to be. So that shouldn't be an issue.
