Two-time dunk champion Jason Richardson announces retirement

A career spanning nearly 15 years and six franchises has drawn to a close for former No. 5 overall pick Jason Richardson.

Richardson rose to notoriety in the early 2000s with gravity-defying displays at back-to-back All-Star weekends, claiming victory in the NBA Dunk Contest in 2002 & 2003.

The high-flying swingman also acted as captain on the 'We Believe' Warriors team that enjoyed a fairy tale run in the 2007 NBA Playoffs.

Golden State created history by upsetting a 67-win Dallas team in the first round, only to fall to the Utah Jazz in five games in the second round.

Richardson finishes with career averages of 17.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game, having converted 37.0 percent of his three-point attempts.

The 34-year-old enjoyed a rebirth in Phoenix, as an integral part of the roster that went all the way to the 2010 Western Conference Finals.

Solid career, and an entertaining dunker in his prime. He was one of those players I'd often trade for in NBA Live Dynasty games.

Also, I think his best dunk came in a contest that he didn't actually win.

I put money on that he will get into coaching now or in a years time.

The Sixers staff praised how he handled himself and took on the role of mentor to the younger players.

I shall remember him for his amazing dunks and for banging Steve Nash's wife
