Baker looks to revive his career

Baker: I'm an alcoholic

Seems Vin has cleaned up his act, and his rehab has been going well thus far. He's apparently back down to 241 pounds and continues to train in preparation for his return to the Celtics and the NBA.

I hope he succeeds, as it's always a shame to see professional athletes end their careers on a sour note after personal problems get the better of them. With hard work, Baker should be able to not only turn his personal life around, but also revive his career. The Celtics could use more inside help - a motivated Baker in playing shape should be able to make a significant contribution.

Perhaps Shawn Kemp should follow his example and shed some of his weight. Both players, once part of the same blockbuster deal that saw their careers begin to decline a season or two after it went down, could extend their careers significantly if they can recapture some of their past glory.

yeah it was about time for the yearly Vin Baker/Shawn Kemp/Vince Carter "I'm back better then ever" talk. If Baker really did get back to the playing weight of his first two seasons, that's a great start, but personally, I'll believe that he can turn it around only after he has done so. I'd like to see him go well though... (y) I remember watching him at the Sydney Olympics, he would make a good play inside because of his size, and then he would look as if he was summoning all his strength, to turn around, push off to gain some momentum, and run back up the floor! Just looked like he was carrying a bit of extra weight.

Some people thought that the trade to Boston would revive Baker's career, but he was still above his usual playing weight and had started abusing alcohol. It seems that he's on the right track to reviving his career - hopefully he'll get the opportunity (or rather, earn the opportunity) and succeed.

If Baker can get close to the level he played at during the 97 and 98 seasons, I think the Celtics could become the dominant team in the east.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ohhhh Man! Another funny joke I can't stop laughing at! The Celtics, the dominating team in the East?! LOL, even if they have Vin Baker playing at his normal level (Which BTW is still sub par for someone earning more than 12$ Million per season), Detroit and New Jersey are well ahead of Boston in terms of talent and management.

he used to be one of the best young forwards in the league. Too bad he faded like Kemp. Hmm, what a coincidence, both were involved in a deal in 97, remember???

After that, their NBA careers went south while their weight went up :(
