Ho' Grant Back To Lakers

Tue Jul 29, 2003 9:06 pm

Horace Grant is returning to the Los Angeles Lakers.

A starting forward on the Lakers' NBA championship team of 2001, Grant signed a free agent contract with the team Monday. Terms were not announced.

Grant, who turned 38 earlier this month, hasn't played since being released by the Orlando Magic last Dec. 11. He played only five games with the Magic last season, averaging 5.2 points and 1.6 rebounds.

Grant is a 16-year veteran who has played in 1,110 games and has four championship rings. He signed with Orlando in July 2001 and averaged 8.0 points and 6.3 rebounds in his first season with the Magic.

He played in 77 games with the Lakers in 2000-01, averaging 8.5 points and 7.1 rebounds.

The 6-foot-10 Grant has career averages of 11.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists. He played seven seasons with the Chicago Bulls before joining Orlando in 1994. He played five seasons with Orlando and one each with Seattle and the Lakers before returning to the Magic.

Yes! The streak continues! There goes another player with ties to the Bulls dynasty that is going to win another ring. :D Every year since the dynasty ended, somebody with Bull ties has won a ring!

Wed Jul 30, 2003 12:03 am

well, i think i'm beginning to like this Lakers team
Payton, Malone, Grant

this is gonna be the 1st Lakers team i'm gonna enjoy seeing win since EJ, Campbell, NVE...........
Still........Pistons are #1 4 me :)

Wed Jul 30, 2003 12:21 am

i don't know how he will do in l.a. cause when he was there for the 2001 championship, he was the starting power forward, and now he might not even be the first opition at power forward, with brian cook, samaki walker, and slava(madsen went to wolves)
but he is similar with the lakers offence so he might do alright.

Wed Jul 30, 2003 12:33 am

i bet that itz either Cook gets a little time or he's not gonna get any at all cuz he's the third option the power forward spot

Karl Malone will play what? Point Guard?

 , Malone will play SF.

Anyway, I don't think Walker will be back. Now I see the Lakers with a combination of oldies with youngsters. Yet, Lakers might just want to use Grant the way they were using Salley few years back, as a terrific 12th man. Grant will not get balls if he gets any playing time, so don't expect him to average a lot, but I know he might fit well Jackson's needs.

Ah, I hadn't read anything about this. Given the Lakers' depth up front (pretty much none existant) I assumed Malone would play his natural PF position...

And the Kings just got Brad Miller...

Horace Grant...Horace Grant...an older, slower, lazier Mark Madsen with goggles...

You assumed correctly; Malone will play power forward. There's no way they'd move him to the three and start Grant at the four. No way.

i meant he won't be the first opition off the bench at pf. Of course Karl Malone will play PF

slava(madsen went to wolves

how appropriate~~ now mad dog madsen can finally have a pic of a dog on his uniform

Wed Jul 30, 2003 4:46 pm

Now way-Malone will start at the 4 and because of his ok performance in the Playofs- I bet Devean will get starting 3!!

Hell yeah- Go Devean!

Wed Jul 30, 2003 6:23 pm

Another good move by the Lakers. Grant's time is just about up, but he should be good for at least one more year as a productive backup in the league.

Thu Jul 31, 2003 2:20 am

Grant's time was up when he last played for the Lakers. He's not going to help this team as much as Madsen would have.
I bet Devean will get starting 3!!

Some of the Lakers have stated he will be starting. Which isn't exactly the best idea. Especially after the All-Star break when you have Devean George and Kareem Rush starting at the SF and SG spots.

Thu Jul 31, 2003 2:36 am

grant is a player who can only take rebounds,he must sit in defense-but offense-no grant isnt a shooter.

why wouldn't kobe be starting? he still on the team. and if kobe is off for a bit, why would Kareem Rush just be starting after the all-star break?

Thu Jul 31, 2003 3:10 am

Well, Kobe can't play for the Lakers while he's in jail.

Thu Jul 31, 2003 3:17 am

but if kobe does go to jail, why would kareem rush only be starting after the all-star break?

Thu Jul 31, 2003 3:46 am

i think kobe(meat) goes to jail. :)

Thu Jul 31, 2003 10:32 am

Thanks for your input....

I guess Horace got over the whole free agency thing when he last left the Lakers and is looking for another ring to add to those shiny fingers. He gives the Lakers a solid backup for Malone, who only needs to play 10-15 minutes a night.

I think he'll be backing up Shaq more then Malone...I think Malone will be backed up more by Cook &/or Medvedenko. My thoughts.
