About the Ugly Finals ...

Postby putodelagoa on Wed Jun 25, 2003 5:43 am

Everybody, analists and sports writers included have this flare for the dramatic, and a short memory indeed...
So this finals were the uglier ever ...
Uglier than last years's, featuring a clearly overmatched and confused team that was dispatched in 4 straight games??? what do people stand out for in the NBA?? Competition or Harlem Globettroters stuff??

I mean, the last Finals sweep I remember had this nr. 8 seed with this Hakeem fellow that schooled every center and power Forward in the west before teaching some new tricks to a stunned Shaq and orlando team. This was a fun sweep, once the odds were against them. And you'll never see a choke in the finals like those 4 missed ft by Nick Anderson...

As for 1994... How beautifull were those finals? The NY Bangers against Hakeem and co... I mean He was grace shaped in a basketball player, but Vernon Maxwell and Starks hoisting foolish shots??? Kenny smith against Derek harper??? Charles Smith..... Carl Herrera???? John Starks shooting 1 for 55 in game 7 while Hubert Davis shrugged in the pine???

And still I had more fun with those Finals than last Year's.
I believe there is some beauty in a game where teams adapt to each other, making a competitive series out of the Finals.

Last year's sweep was the perfect example of what NBA's finals shouldn't be.

I agree....(not with Kidd, obiously)....as bad as this year's finals were, last year's sweap was by far the worst final i've ever seen....Seeing the Lackers dominating the Nets was just too boring to watch...i remember my 1st reaction when the Lackers won...it was "Finaly...." But this year can easily be put in as 2nd worst.....because the low scoring games were unbearable...

I didn't really enjoy this year's finals to be honest. It wasn't really a "dramatic" type of series like MJ with the Bulls, Hakeem with the Rockets, etc. except for the fact like David Robinson was going to be retiring. It wasn't a bad series, I just didn't like it though.

I haven't had an opportunity to watch the tapes yet, so I might change my tune when I see the games themselves. However, just following the Finals on NBA.com, I enjoyed it for the fact I'm not a fan of either team - I could just enjoy the finals as a fan of basketball.
