Spurs vs Nets
Shud be an interesting Finals...Spurs will win it all i think...but in the NBA ANYTHING is possible...reffering to the Refree's :roll:

I actually think that the nets have a good chance at winning if jason kidd keeps playing like he was against the pistons. Its not like last year when whoever was the western conference champion was the nba champion. This one should go to 6 or 7 games. :cool:

Yeah i think that will be the case. Nets seem to be playin better basketball than a year ago.
The matchup to watch is Kidd vs Parker which i think Kidd will win
and Martin vs Duncan...which i think Duncan will win...and can ANYone explain why Mt. Mutumbo isnt getting any playing time? Isnt he still a good rebounder + shotblocker?

I'm inclined to pick the Spurs, but the way the Nets have been playing, I wouldn't rule them out. I feel that no matter who wins, it won't be a sweep - I too think the series will quite possibly go six or seven games. As someone who isn't a fan of either team, I say...good. It's a chance for someone who doesn't prefer one team over the other but loves basketball to be truly entertained, no matter who wins.

But allow me to admit a couple of preferences for the outcome.

David Robinson retiring with a title. So few players go out winning a title, and perhaps if he wasn't part of the Jordan/Hakeem/Jordan/Shaq stretch of NBA history, then he would have more titles. I'm a Jordan fan, so I'm not complaining too much. But with the Admiral being labelled as washed up and way past his prime, this final dignity would not go astray.

I'm a Bulls fan, so I'm an Eastern Conference fan. It would be great to see the Eastern Conference take the NBA title in the form of the New Jersey Nets. At the very least, it would be great to see them put up a fight. Every now and then, you hear the "Kidd is overrated" rumblings. It would be nice to see him silence his critics by proving he can lead a team to the ultimate achievement.

I don't really know why mutombo isn't playing but he sat out 56 regular season games due to injury and he is getting pretty old. I guess the nets just couldn't fit him into the lineup because they have got younger guys that can play more than him.

Finally, I think we can see a competitive Championship Series, at least the Nets can believe that they can matchup pretty well with the Spurs. If the Nets win, it shows that the East can play a pretty good NBA hoops.

Mutombo doesn't play due to chemistry, they have won and come together with the current rotation and why spoil it?

Although I think Mutombo will get some playing time to foul and bang Duncan, but again the Nets have plenty of big people to do so.

As I said in the Spurs v. Mavs thread, I like the Nets in this series.
They have been very consistant, something the Spurs have never been.
Watch out for the Spurs on the road, they really play better there.

I believe New Jersey should play just as they have been playing, running out on the fastbreak, playing the way Dallas did.

I pick New Jersey 4-3. But they must hold their own at home, if San Antonio steals games at New Jersey it could be fatal.

San Antonio doesn't have Dallas or the Lakers in this series, I do not see the Nets letting San Antonio get into position to blow leads, I see New Jersey getting out early and often.

Tony Parker can do nothing with Jason Kidd, I think Bowen will be guarding Kidd, Parker on Kittles.

I think Jason Collins and Aaron Williams will get some minutes on Duncan if he posts up a lot. I hope New Jersey learned that if you double and triple down on Duncan, the Spurs suck.

finally, a championship series where either team has a chance to win the series. i'm hoping the series goes at least 6 games.

should be interesting to see:

-the nets deal with duncan. this will be their first time in this playoffs facing a team with legit post player. in the regular season, they did a decent job containing him

-parker vs kidd. parker should be 100% by the time the series starts. parker facing his possible replacement. kidd will win this matchup but parker will give him problems also

-kenyon marting play. he's playing like a beast. playing the best ball of his career

-jefferson, martin, and kidd running on the fast break. if the nets go zone and the spurs can't break it, much dunkage is expected

This will definitely be an interesting series to watch. IMO it's the 2002-03 MVP vs. the best PG in the leauge. Who will win?....we soon will find out.

This series could go either way.
I think the Nets will defend against Duncan the same way the Mavs were doing...sending 2 guys collapsing on him. The Spurs perimeter players (Bowen, Ginobili, Parker, Jackson, and Kerr) will play a key part in this...if they can hit their shots I see the Spurs winning this.
On the other hand, if the Spurs perimeter guys don't sink their shots, the Nets will win.

I'm going with the Spurs in 6 games. If Duncan's supporting cast continue to produce the Spurs should only drop a game or two.

David Stern picks a team that can be marketable. In this case he would pick between these two teams that would market well. I think it would be the nets coz i think this city is in need of attendance. :wink:

If David Stern truly wanted a marketable/big market team in the finals, then we'd be seeing Los Angeles/New York or Los Angeles/Chicago in the Finals. Moreover, if the NBA was truly fixed...I think it would have been exposed by either a former player or eagle eyed journalist by now.

About Mutombo, I think he doesn't play simply because of an argue with Byron Scott. If Mutombo doesn't retire, he won't be for sure a Net next year.

have to go with spurs in 6 for the 3rd straight series win and they kinda deserve it since they knocked out my team LA.

I'm kinda happy cause even though LA didn't win atleast there main rivals never(SAC)

Though its pretty sad and unfortunate that the Playoffs were so heavily effected by injuries...

I hope this doesn't become a mismatch, in terms of everyone expecting a close series, and then finding out just how much better the west is when the Spurs demolish the Nets. Expect the unexpected, and this could happen. I think it will probably be a 6 game series, and I'll go with the Spurs, but I'm not certain, in all honesty it could go either way. The ball is very round my friends.

I'd like an east team to win like Andrew said, but I'm not really a fan of the Nets, and I'd also like to see D-Rob and Kerr go out in style... Kevin Willis another vet & another guy who has been a solid big and very respectable big man is nearing the end of his career, he could possibly retire too, he's a free agent right?

If you listen to the fellers at RealGM and ESPN's message boards the Nets will be sweeping the Spurs then signing Jermaine O'Neal in the offseason then posting these numbers next year:

ABC is just showing a lot of women during the coverage, anyway Spurs win Game 1 101-89, big game for Duncan and Tony Parker just outplayesd Jason Kidd.

Not much you can say about Duncan really...32 points, 20 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 blocks speaks for itself, really. He even managed 3 steals, 11/17 FG and 10/14 FT, while committing only one turnover. What can you say, the guy's a pretty good basketball player.

The Nets will need Jason Kidd to score a lot more, but his assists and rebounds were Kidd-like. Good game for K-Mart before he fouled out - but that's going to be a problem. After K-Mart, who's going to guard Duncan? (for those who saw the game, who did?)

I'm a little disappointed by the scoreline - I hope it's not the way of the series. If the Nets are going to lose, I'd like them to at least save face - at best, I'd like the series to go as long as possible.

There's nothing much to expect from K-mart. He is not an established post player and his shot is unlikely for a big man.

Jason Kidd will have to develop a jumper to score a lot more...driving against the Spurs interior defense != good idea...

Nobody guarded Duncan. Martin can't guard Duncan. Nobody can guard Duncan. You can only get in his way or try and deny him the ball. Once he gets it, if he decides he's going to, he will score. He's like a quicker more mobile Shaq with range and shooting ability.

The Nets can't worry about the greatest player in the world. He's gonna get his numbers. They concentrated on Duncan so much the rest of the Spurs killed them. The Pistons learned this about McGrady or Orlando, but it took four games. The Nets are good, but if they get down 3-1 to the Spurs. I do not believe they will be making a 3-0 comeback.
