The best trio in the NBA..

Wed Jan 16, 2008 12:55 am

Which team do you has the best three punch combination in the NBA?

The Boston Celtics : Garnett , Allen , Pierce - totally changed the face of the Celtics Franchise. The C's went from a young rebuilding team led by The Truth to a team with 3 Title Hungry Superstars who are now at the top of the NBA Standings.

The Detroit Pistons : Billups , Hamilton , Wallace - these three lead perhaps the most consistent team in the Eastern conference. They made the Conference Finals 5 years in a row, perhaps still in their prime, I think they'll be in contention for at least three more years.

The Phoenix Suns : Nash , Marion , Stoudemire - Perhaps the most exciting to watch. They were no. 1 in the West their first year together, they've always been in title contention, Last year was their 2nd full year as a trio, once again, they were favorites. The only team that keeps getting in their way is...

The San Antonio Spurs : Duncan , Parker , Ginobili - The most accomplished trio. Winning 3 NBA Championships together. Perhaps the most consistent team in the NBA. They are considered a dynasty in my opinion although they have never won back to back.

EDIT: Feel free to share your thoughts as to who you voted for and why.

I voted for the Celtics, my avatar can explain why.

UPDATE: I would have included New Jersey but I don't think they are performing at their best right now, I had to choose the 4 teams with the best record that has a trio. For that I had to change the Title, Sorry Nets fans.

^No Mercer?

Is this favourite trio, or best trio? Because I think as of right now, the Celtics have the best trio, while my favourite must be Nash, Stoudemire, and Marion. They're very exciting to watch, with especially Nash's passes.

The Detroit one is pretty underrated IMO.

I think the Spurs have the best trio in the NBA because as you said they are the most accomplished trio but I think Boston's trio is catching up with them. The turnaround from last year is really something and I expected them to be good but not this good at this time (even though their struggling a bit with a 1-3 record on their last 4 games).

Until proven otherwise, Spurs >>> everyone else. Duncan is just an absolute beast.

Boston is good on paper, but injury prone and are yet to prove anything.
Detroit sucks in the playoffs so long as Saunders is coaching - negating anything the 3 players can do.
Suns dont play defence and cant rebound.

Interesting take. I'd like to know how you came to that conclusion considering the Suns trio averages more rebounds then any of the other trios mentioned by a long shot.

Wed Jan 16, 2008 6:38 pm

They're 30th in offensive rebounding, and 29th in defensive rebounding.

The other trios dont consist of a centre and a forward either...

Suns miss a lot more shots (i assume) than other teams due to the way they play. Certainly more than spurs/detroit/boston - since they all play best in half court sets. They SHOULD get more rebounds simply due to the higher percentage of shots going up, that doesnt necessarily make them better rebounders - especially as a team.

I'd rate them in the following order: Spurs, Pistons, Celtics, Suns....whilst Spurs keep winning titles, they'll stay number 1

The Celtics have the most impressive looking trio and they've produced the best record thus far this season. They're also impressive in that it's a trio of three All-Stars who are accustomed to being the top player on their team but are playing together without any squabbles and are each still putting up fine numbers. It's hard to argue against the Spurs because they have the hardware while KG, Pierce and Allen haven't won anything of significance yet but in terms of assembling a powerful trio, the Celtics' Big Three is the most imposing in terms of their status as individuals in the league since Olajuwon, Barkley and Drexler, with the added bonus of being younger and healthier than those three greats when they teamed up in Houston.

The team is, but we are talking about trios and Stoudemire and Marion are both good rebounders- Marion is an elite rebounder.

I have a feeling Laxation was talking about the teams (albeit with the affects of the trios in mind), not the trios. Especially considering two of his statements were about team success.

Marion and Amare may create more rebounds for the trio, but what good does that do for the team when they're still the worst rebounding team in the league?

Next year, ROY, ALdridge, Oden

Says it all really. I suppose its just the Celtics first year but theyve still to prove themselves.

this is very obvious... who has the best record??? other than the celtics i'll go with the t-wolves,, Antoine Walker, Al Jefferson and Marco Jaric... :D  :D

i am gonna go with the celtics trio as imo theya re the best trio this season. if we take past years into account then its clear the spurs are the best trio from the choices given, but not the best overall.

Thu Jan 17, 2008 1:38 pm

San antonio... They won 3 titles... what else do u want??

Yeah my thought process got a little sidetracked there...

Even so, I still think Duncan + co. are better than those other trios, simply because they win.

Another reason is that IMO, those top 3 teams play better defense than the Suns.

AHEM...

Charlotte Bobcats...

G-Force, J-Rich, and Okafor!

8-)

Fri Jan 18, 2008 3:42 am

The best trio: Spurs
The best trio on paper: Suns
The best trio if they win the championship this year: Celtics

i guess this depends on what the question really is, is it the best trio ever from the given choices? best trio this season? also do you take into account the other guys on the team when considering the best trio. cause i would bet anything i got that in a 3 on 3 game the celts 3 would win vs any of the others on this list.

Fri Jan 18, 2008 9:06 am

No mention of the Bucks

How can anybody compete with the trio of Dan Gadzuric, Michael Ruffin and Charlie Bell?????

How dare this topic even be discussed without mentioning the TRUE Big 3?!?

Fri Jan 18, 2008 9:33 am

Look at the bright side, one third of the original Bucks big three is now part of the Celtics big three.
