Gilbert Arenas is really starting to piss me off.

is it because he's outspoken? I'm just curious as to why as I quite like the guy....

Gilbert Arenas in his blog wrote:I play Halo all day and those kids, those video gamers, are the “out crowd.” Any video gamer that thinks they’re an “in crowd,” no, you’re an “out crowd.”

Ouch, that hurts. Gilbert does keep it real.
Gilbert arenas in his blog wrote:I don’t want the popular, cocky kids. I don’t want them on my cartoon, we’re going to make fun of them on my cartoon.

I wonder if Arenas ever watched Revenge of the Nerds. What he's planning sounds similar.
Gilbert Arenas in his blog wrote:They ranked me a 91 in the game (NBA Live 08), but I didn’t want to go into some board room and demand that they make me a 95 because I’m on the cover … fine, I’m not going to lie, I did do that. But they told me it was too late. It’s OK though. If you’re playing as me and hit the Hot Spots button, the whole floor turns red. That means wherever you see red, that’s where I can shoot. My range is the whole court.

What a creep.
As for his Hot Spots, is that even true?
Gilbert Arenas in his blog wrote:They said he really dunked it and he got so happy he finally dunked in front of his friends that he passed away. He died right there on the court we grew up on.

Great story.

If someone plays 1-2 hours of Halo a day, he's basically a video gamer and by what Gil said, you belong to the "out crowd"? That's bullcrap.

Alright, 1-2 hours of Halo is a LOT of halo every day though. Most matches i've played have been 10 minutes or less. Playing a few hours a week not bad...playing 10+ is. Dont get me wrong, halos a phenomenal game, but doesnt it get old after countless hours?

This from a guy who plays World Of Warcraft....i think i just pwned myself...

Sun Oct 14, 2007 5:07 am

Still, my point is, whatever minutes/hours you play a day, heck even 5-10minutes, you're still a video gamer, and that doesn't prove you're one of "them".

I just used Halo as an example.

No there is a world of difference between a gamer and a casual player. A casual player buys it to play when their friends are over and otherwise never touch it. A gamer is an active constant player.

Sun Oct 14, 2007 5:31 am

gotta agree with illini, being a gamer is far more than just playing a game.

Because he writes things like this:

Gilbert Arenas wrote:You need to go out and buy the game that has commercials with it, because those commercials are cool.

My swag is phenomenal right now, remember that. Like Kanye said, “You can’t tell tell me nothing, riiighhht.”

And also this picture:

What is he going for with that look? I don't understand at all. Though, in all fairness to Gilbert, he probably had minimal input in that picture.

Also, his inability to get over being drafted in the second round. To use a tired old joke: Impossible isn't nothing. Impossible is getting Gilbert Arenas to shut the fuck up about being drafted in the second round.

yeah, he probably is the sort of guy you either like or don't like....as for the buy Live comments, I found it funny....he's not trying to tell people the game is good (as he would know it isn't), he's trying to get them to buy it because the commercials are cool (seems like EA's tactics haven't changed)

What's wrong with that? He uses that as motivation, and he's gone very far with that.

Mon Oct 15, 2007 12:54 am

I can understand MC5, I do too, sometimes, get irritated on how he keeps bringing up the "underdog" story, oh well, if it works positively for him then I can't blame him.

It's not true but as it happens his performance last year has allowed his Hot Spots to be fairly widespread.

No question and if that's what keeps him motivated then more power to him. I think some people have grown a bit tired of the spiel though, which I suppose comes with the territory when you're outspoken.

I'd agree with you there....I recall the story of a young man getting cut from his high school team but then became one of the greatest to ever play the game....that's motivation....similar to Gilbert's....proving people wrong....for him personally, it is probably what he needs to keep that drive inside him to strive for more....

I'd hardly call Andrew Bogut one of the GOATs.

Wait.

It certainly is reminiscent of Michael Jordan and other players who worked hard to prove their worth in the world of basketball. Perhaps it's the fact that Arenas tells the story himself so often or vows to drop 60 points on this team or that team that leaves some people with a feeling of "Jeez, get over it" rather than a feeling of inspiration. Or maybe a lot of fans just don't appreciate a good story these days.

As I said, it comes with the territory of being outspoken and as you pointed out, it makes Arenas one of those "like him or you don't" kind of players for most fans.

i would've been impressed if he made the asian character not the nerdy smart stereotype. i would've been Arenas's #1 fan.

http://www.gazothepranksta.com/

Judging from the characters displayed at the front page, the black dude will be Chris Rockish, the Asian will indeed be clever and nerdy (he looks a lot like the guy from American Dad actually), the Hispanic guy will be a pimp. Then we will have a poor, white Emo girl and a dorky white, male sidekick the Caucasians can identify with.

I am actually looking forward to illegally download the first episode only to delete it after watching 30 seconds when I've been assured that this show is going to be worse than Troy Hudson's rap album.

Difference is, I don't recall MJ going off about being cut in from his high school team at every opportunity. If Gilbert wants to use being drafted in the second round as motivation that's fine, but he doesn't need to remind everyone of it at every opportunity. And in fact, I'm of the opinion that every player who gets drafted at all should be very thankful for the opportunity, not bitter that they didn't go as high as they thought they should. I mean, it's not like Arenas went undrafted, or was drafted #60. He was drafted #31, I believe, which is pretty damn good, all things considered.

More than anything, though, it's just too much Gilbert Arenas lately. He seriously over-exposing himself, and as such the backlash is coming. Also, I don't really find Arenas to be very funny or interesting, for the most part.

Gilbert is cashing in right now. Let him have his fun, by next year well all have forgotton about it and we'll be complaining/cheering about someone else.

I'll quote you on that when Arenas explodes this season.
