2007-08 NBA season thread

Tue May 15, 2007 6:46 pm

The 2007-08 NBA season is the 62nd season of the National Basketball Association. The 1,230-game regular-season is scheduled to begin in late October 2007, and close in mid-to-late April 2008. The NBA Playoffs will start three days after the end of the regular-season, and run through mid-to-late June with the NBA Finals. The NBA All-Star Game will be played at the New Orleans Arena in mid-February 2008, with the New Orleans Hornets serving as the host franchise for the event. The Hornets will return to New Orleans, Louisiana, full-time this season, after spliting home games during the previous two seasons with New Orleans and Oklahoma City, due to relocation caused by Hurricane Katrina. The leather ball may be or not be used in the 07-08 season. This season ends a 6-year contract between the NBA, Time Warner's TNT and The Walt Disney Company's ABC & ESPN. Commissioner David Stern will either pass broadcasting rights to other network(s) or extend TNT's or ABC's & ESPN's contracts to the next four years. Commissioner Stern is already attempting to extend the contracts with all networks.

Ok, so everything that happens over the next season will go in this thread? Why don't we just make this thread "NBA Talk"?

xbox360, are you even human?

No offense, but this thread covers a WAY to broad subject. I don't see why this should be the official thread for a topic that is going to spawn heaps of different topics.

On that account I'm going to change the topic title, focussing it on a 'looking towards' next season.

Already looking forwards to next season, everyone should know why ;)

*Cough* Choke *Cough*

It's going to be interesting just watching the progress on Oden, Durant, and the Florida Gator kids.

There's so much pressure on those guys already, and they don't even have teams yet.

I also think it's the last year the Sonics will be in Seattle =/

i bet Detroit starts off slow in their title defence :P

It doesn't help his case that the text is from Wikipedia

Na I think he is a robot and generates the topics based on popularity, all of his threads are either starting with official or end with thread.

wtf is there a thread for next season when we are not even in the conference finals yet? shit man we dont even know the damn draft order yet

Wed May 16, 2007 10:43 am

I'm calling it: Timberwolves win the championship next year.

We're comin'! We're comin'!

Wed May 16, 2007 12:25 pm

well if we are calling things then, the celts will get first pick, but thats not enough for them, so instead of playing oden, we send him to the D league and tank another season. mark my words

lol.. OJ Mayo + Oden, development of Al Jefferson into a consistent 20/10 guy... Paul Pierce healthy and being a better leader... Delonte West(15pts,8assists,5rebounds,2steals), Gerald Green's(6th man of the year 2008, 18pts 50%fg, 40%ft) Break out season.
Oden coming back and then Celtics winning the lottery,

2009-2010, here we come with Oden finally ready, Mayo as the ROY, Al making an all-star appearance.. Pierce showing no signs of aging

Wed May 16, 2007 1:02 pm

Can't wait for the Sixers to win their first championship since '83. Quote me in June.

EDIT: Just realized...next year's June.

2007-08 Season:

LeBron misses season with major knee injury.
Spurs' title defense starts with a 65-17 season, but they lose to #4 Mavericks in conf. semis.
In last season, Sonics use 5th pick on project center Hasheem Thabeet, who ends up in D-League.
Mavericks go under the radar with 54-28 record to win title.
Raptors miss playoffs.
Memphis drafts Oden, but barely misses playoffs.
Kobe suspended 5 games for appearing to give Manu the stink eye.
Surprise success: Portland Trailblazers (50-32 season, division title)
MVP: Dwyane Wade; Heat lost to Pistons in conf. finals

All I can think of...

Portland one killed me  Good one, Raps probably will make it but lose again in first round.

IMO If Memphis gets Oden, they will make the playoffs quite easily.

C - Oden (top 2 player in the draft)
PF - Gasol (all star caliber power forward)
SF - Gay (probably the second most impressive soph, load of potential)*
SG - Mike Miller (one of the top shooters in the league)
PG - Insert offseason PG aqcuisition (Billups? Mo Williams? Steve Blake?)

6th: Hakim Warrick
7th: Medium level free agent signing
8th: Kyle Lowry
9th: Dahntay Jones

*I wouldn't be suprised to see Rudy Gay putting up numbers very similar to Gerald Wallace next year.

Memphis' coaching situation is too chaotic too count them for the playoffs and their GM quit. It's still a lottery team unless someone takes the reins, any team of any kind needs strong leadership.

Of all the players mentioned, all very talented but none would be considered team leaders (unless they pull off a miracle and sign Billups).

Thu May 17, 2007 7:56 am

Orlando Magic and LA Lakers becoming one of the strongest teams in the conference, perhapts a breakout season by Atlanta. Whatever.

Thu May 17, 2007 8:54 am

atlanta will draft some other jerk they dont need, the city will have stupid billboards everywhere claiming how this is the season for the hawks, said billboards will be removed in feburary

Thu May 17, 2007 10:45 am

Hawks won't draft anyone; their pick will go just outside the Top 3 and go to Phoenix. Even if they did, it would be another swingman that will average 5 PPG.

Thu May 17, 2007 1:29 pm

Bucks get number 2 pick. Heard it here first! If we get Oden we keep Mo Williams, if we get durant we sign and trade him for a defensive big.

(Well at least I hope. If we fall past 4 I will die, as I want Horford, Wright or Conley at least)

You do realise we can just get this news from elsewhere, and that it has already been covered in other threads. Unless it dramatic or breaking news like a major trade or what not, then it probably will be discussed in respective team threads. We don't need an official thread for everything, nor do we need a news update when we all obviously have the internet and can access NBA news sources.

What is the point of listing these by the way? Are they to be discussed? Do you want our opinions? Do you have an opinion? Are you even real or some kind of bot? Are you a person???? Please answer as I'm beginning to think you just post stuff for the sake of posting, not to actually create any kind of dialect or discussion.
