Mullin, Jackson lead Basketball Hall of Fame finalists

Postby Andrew on Sat Feb 17, 2007 2:50 pm

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Phil Jackson, Chris Mullin and Dick Vitale led the list of 15 finalists for induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame announced during the NBA's All-Star weekend Friday.

They were joined by former players Adrian Dantley and Richie Guerin; coaches Roy Williams, Eddie Sutton and Bob Hurley, Sr.; owner Bill Davidson; and the 1966 Texas Western NCAA championship team.

Referee Mendy Rudolph, Yugoslavian coach Mirko Novosel, Spanish coach Pedro Ferrandiz and former U.S. women's basketball coaches Van Chancellor and Harley Redin also were selected by the four screening committees that nominate finalists.

Full story here.

Surely Phil Jackson, Chris Mullin and Adrian Dantley are certain to get the nod. Then again, with the way Nique was snubbed on his first nomination before being inducted last year you never know.

DICK VITALE????????????? Are you f-n kidding me? Being a lousy coach, an NCAA shill and Coach K's butt-boy gets you a nod for the HOF?

Disagree, he's the face of ACC basketball....every time i see that prick he will be asked "who do you think will win between <insert non ACC teams here>?" and he always turns it around to be about chapel hill or duke....hate the fucker.....does he deserve a nod though? I'd say so, he does/has done alot of commentary and while i may not like him, he does bring a different excitement to the game than most college announcers do.

Wow, you guys are harsh! Vitale has called well over 1,000 games and been involved with the game for something like 40 years, not to mention his tenures as coach of the University of Detroit and coach of the Pistons. There's no question he should be in there, especially since someone like Chick Hearn was inducted 16 years ago.

Excitement? Not to me. He's nothing but a loudmouth, a shill, and a pompous ass like Billy Packer. I can't take those stupid phrases of his. Thank goodness for the mute button. Wish that d---head would get a permanent case of laryngitis.
