Suns vs. Cavs

5 minutes to go in the 3rd and Steve Nash has 17 assists!!!

Also since this game is on TNT, hopefully people see how much of an improved defensive team Phoenix is. 47 points in the 3rd quarter, and each shot is highly contested, and they're blocking everything near the basket. This isn't a fluke either... Nash is drawing multiple charges in each game this year, helping out well on the double teams. Suns only scored 5 points in the first 5 minutes of the quarter yet they still increased their lead because of defense.

I liked Doug Collins' point that just because the Suns give up a large number of points is irrelevant to how good they are defensively. Because they and their opponents take a lot more shots due to tempo, its bound to be higher.

No defense? I think not.

20 assists now, pretty insane. Wonder if they'll leave him in to do some stat padding since it's already a blowout.

They're still the 5th worst team in the league when it comes to points allowed per game though.

I'd judge their defensive success on defensive fg%, not ppg allowed, due to their high tempo play equals more possessions (& therefore shots) to their opponent....

this blowout can only mean one thing....Sean Marks might get a minute or two of PT :P

but yeah, Suns are elite team in NBA, alongside the Mavs & to a slightly lesser extent, the Spurs....the rest are playing catchup....

Their opponents only average like 1 or 2 more shots per game than teams like Denver, Washington etc.

no defense? i think so. Don't let a game against the Cavs fool you. Cavs have no offense besides LBJ, everyone else sucks.

I've watched every game they've played this season.

TNT had a good stat... they are top 10 in shot blocking, and lead the NBA in charges drawn. Suns also lead the league in opponents 3pt %, and 12th in FG%.

Those are pretty good numbers in my book.

I loved what I saw last night, and it's obvious that the Suns have the best defensive team they've had in 3 years, and this is due mostly to the fact that Amare Stoudemire has become a real inside defensive presence as of late. However, in my opinion, a good defensive team is a team that can get key stops late in a game, and until I see the Suns do that against San Antonio or Dallas, I'm not sold on them as a good defensive team.
