Denver's Boykins and Hodge traded to Bucks for Steve Blake

Postby grusom on Fri Jan 12, 2007 5:08 am

Even though Denver needs a pass-first PG, and Boykins wanted a trade, I think they could/should have got better

Actually this trade is not that bad for Denver in case of chemistry and playing time. When JR and Melo are back, Boykins and Hodge would have played only few minutes and I think they would not have been satisfied. With Blake they get a solid backup for AI or maybe for playing small with AI as the 2. He will work with AI while Boykins was also a scorer more than a passer.

Quality wise I think that the Bucks did get two very very underrated players who will help them a lot to make the Playoffs. Nice for both teams, but Bucks got the better players.

The Nuggets only did this so they wouldn't have to pay the luxury tax, and the Bucks could use Boykins to back up Mo Williams, though if I were them I would have kept Blake for that purpose.

Holy crap, Steve Blake. I love the guy. I think he'll fit in nicely in Denver, though I do hope he returns to Portland via free agency.

Hmm, ok that makes it a little more useless. I don't see why else Denver would pull this kinda trade off. I mean I'm not too fond of Boykins (I don't like his game) but I don't see why Denver really had to trade him, and for Steve Blake for that matter? :?

Ah the luxury tax....still boykins had been doing well with AI, and their speed created mismatches....and i dont think it would have made sense to trade him until he may have become ineffective with melos return....just think of a lineup with boykins, iverson, JR, melo, and camby. it would be a high scoring team with a lot of power. instead we are to say "what if"...though avoiding the luxury tax is a plus for the nuggets.

I'm glad they did this trade simply because Earl Boykins always seemed to tear the Wolves up whenever they would play.

Yeah, this is obviously purely a money trade, like trading Tyson Chandler for PJ Brown.

Boykins should thrive in the Bucks' guard oriented game.

Aww well, I liekd Boykins but we gotta cut the luxury taxes. Steve Blake will polish the bench till the rest of the season and then wont be signed, gl to Boykins in Milwaukee.

As of late, Boykins was really playing well offensively. Denver, with the likes of Carmello, AI, J.R. and others, probably would fare better with Blake who handles the ball well and only shoots if nobody is near him.

Good deal, i wasnt a fan of Earl and his selfishness and i didnt think he belonged in this team. Now we can actually play defense without him on the floor.

Sad to see my man Julius depart, im a big fan of his and i think he would of been a big part of this team if we had a different coach.

Good luck to both of them.

Earl is "selfish"? His role on the team is to score.

I think George Karl realised for all the mismatches an Iverson/Boykins backcourt creates, its just too much of a liability on the defensive end.

He gets selfish when he thinks hes the superstar on the team when we got Melo. Boykins thinks he deserves to take all the shots. His role isnt to score because we got Anthony and enough scorers, also he jacks up shots all day long even if he is cold, im glad to see the back of him.

How can you say his role isn't to score? He's 5'5''. He's not gonna stop anyone on defense.

Maybe passing like a normal PG would do the trick.

"We"? So why don't you stop passing him the ball

Without Carmelo, and now obviously Iverson, who do the nuggets have that can genuinely create offense for them? Boykins role was to score, and that requires taking shots. That's not being selfish, or trying to be a superstar, it just helped the Nuggets.

Steve Blake is the worst player alive. God, that guy is just TERRIBLE. The Bucks made out like bandits.

SO true!

Finally something goes the way of the bucks. Hopefully this means we will get a few W's while the others recuperate from injury. Great move Larry Harris.

While I disagree about Blake being 'the worst', the Bucks certainly did get a great deal here.

He is seriously abysmal. There are 12 year olds who can make the shots he misses. He might've been alright in Portland but he's been even worse than Jiri Welsch was for the Bucks last season.

Bucks fans were excited when we got him over the summer, but he has been a constant let down. His so called 'outstanding' shooting has been non existent, see yesterdays box score for a quality example. He was jacking up shots from outside all game.

I'm confident that Jae will agree, but this will allow Bucks fans to have a huge sigh of relief to get rid of Jiri 2.0

Seriously this is a horrible trade. Regardless of the luxury tax, you trade Boykins who has been thriving since the suspension for a garbage time player.
