Patrick Ewing Night at the Garden....

Postby Jeffx on Sat Mar 01, 2003 12:59 am

Tonight number 33 will be retired along with other Knick greats at Madison Square Garden. To all my fellow Knick brethren, give Pat a hand. He wasn't perfect, but he gave his all every night, and provided us with great memories. During Ewing's career, NY reached the playoffs 13 times and went to two Finals. His problems were he never had that great player to help him out & Michael Jordan's greatness. Still, the Knicks had their chance in '94. If it wasn't for Riley's stubborness & the bonehead John Starks(who never met a shot he didn't like), Pat would've had a ring by now.

'Bye Pat - thanks for the memories. You'll be missed.

Hey Jeff nice to see you :)

Yeah it was great that ceremony. I shed a tear, I just kept thinking about him in 95/96 against the Bulls how hard he played. He was a true warrior.

Thanks, good to see you too. Since I don't have Live 2003, I don't post as much as I used too. But I come here every day.

I was glad to see the fans(and the old-timers) come out and show much love for Pat. I've been following his career since Georgetown. When the Knicks got the first pick in the '85 draft, I screamed & jumped in the air like a kid on Christmas morning. Pat didn't win NY a ring, but he DID try.

Congrats to Ewing on the number being retired, he deserves it.

He should suit up for the Wiz in the playoffs :D

Ewing is certainly deserving of his number being raised to the rafters after the career he had in New York. Post-New York just didn't seem like Ewing - unfortunately Pat was another player who didn't get to leave the game on his terms.

He should suit up for the Wiz in the playoffs

I believe he could still be a better than average centre in the league, had he signed with a team this season - provided he wasn't buried on the bench recording DNPs as he did with Orlando.

MJ said he wouldn't hesitate to sign Ewing to a 10 day. But he doesn't think Ewing has the legs left.

It was nice of some of those legends to show up and honor Pat...

anybody got any info on his son? He play any ball? He's almost as tall as his dad. I guess with some of these guys Like Pat, MJ, their kids could be in the league in a few years time. I read somewhere a while ago that Dominique Wilkins nephen was in college somewhere.

I seem to remember reading that Pat was adamant that Patrick Ewing Jr. (hey, we said he was a great basketball player, no one mentioned creative ) get a college education and avoid a career as a professional athlete. It didn't say anything in regards to Pat Junior being a good player though.

Wouldn't that be Indiana's NCAA team (or is it Indiana State)?
