Kemp trying out for bulls

Claiming he now weighs 257 pounds, three pounds lighter than in his prime, Kemp was arrested for marijuana possession in July. He told Seattle reporters the drugs were old and he hadn't used drugs since 2004.

All I'm going to say is that if Kemp truly has gotten his act together and has lost all those pounds, he'll be playing for some NBA team this winter. Kemp has become a running punch line for basket ball jokes in the last 7-8 years, but what he was back in Seattle, well any team would take that. Or at least a hint of that to put in the game off the bench.

If Kemp is fit and ready to play, he might make some eye-poppers this season...

i read the article and what kemp claims on how he weighs now may be true, i was looking for source pics of him (for patching) a while back and stumbled into this pic...

Image

the pic was dated 2005 and from the looks of it he really lost a lot of pounds compared to when we last saw him play in the nba...

couldn't tell if he could still play decent ball though... but still, i would personally want to see him in an nba uniform again...

He won't make it back if he keeps missing training camps.

Kemp experienced travel problems late Sunday night but still arrived in Chicago early Monday morning. Instead of working out with the Bulls, he traveled to his hometown of Elkhart, Ind., to visit an ailing relative.

Completely understandable. I hope the Bulls look past this, and pick him up. I would take him over Schenscher any day, even if he's only on the court 4-5 minutes per, if he's cleaned up his act he can be another veteran presence.

That's a shame. I too hope he gets another shot with them but given the Bulls were apparently more interested in Andrew DeClercq or Luke Schenscher to begin with it seems unlikely.

For some reason as soon as I saw those two guys I didnt like them, I hope they take Kemp just so I dont have to vomit when I watch the bulls play those two tools.

Plus it would be sweet to the the Reignman back in action

Wait... is Schenscher the big ginger Australian dude from Georgia Tech??? Wasnt he like the fourth option in his SR year? What the hell are the Bulls thinking, even if they take Kemp and he does nothing at all, Its not like they are missing out on anything... speaking of georgia tech, anyone know where the hell Isma'il Mohammed is? He was an amazing dunker

Im sure if he improved his defence a bit, worked alot on his shot just became an overall smarter basketball player, an NBA team would pick him up.

If I were the Bulls I'd have to pass on the Shawn Hemp. This is a risk/reward type thing. I'd be shocked if Kemp was actually at a level where he could contribute night in night out. Now would a guy like Shawn Kemp be willing to be a 12th man and get a ton of DNP-CDs? I don't know, but its not worth the risk, it could cause a distraction.

there's the rub. can a player who's had a solid career up until the lockout check his ego at the door... especially with a no nonsense Chicago Bulls GM/coach?

the bulls should him put him on the preseason roster... let him play some games.. showcase what he has/hasn't. maybe the goodwill the Bulls show to Kemp will result in his agent returning the favor later in some other capacity

personally, i'd like to see Declerq make the roster, assuming he's healthy. he's more skilled, experienced, and stronger then the Aussie. and the guy is willing to throw his body around

Good Idea (Y) Leave it up to Shawn to decide how he will use this oppurtunity, and pretty much ensure his fate with this team. I would love to see Kemp play 10-15 minutes in preseason games

Good idea Gordon. The upside to Shawn Kemp is definitley higher then either of the big white guys, but like I said there's much more downside too.

If Shawn is in shape and can still play anywhere near his old self he would be extremely helpful to the Bulls.

i read at hoopshype that kemp was out of the picture because he went to someone who was sick in his family instead of going to the bulls tryout, or something like that.

Remember, just because he's lost weight doesn't make him "in shape".

You have to be "in shape" to lose the weight that he had before ;) But yeah, who knows how good his conditioning is at his age and level.

I have been following him for the last year and looking at the stuff he did to lose that wieght I bet he is in shape. He is in better shape then when he played for the magic or even blazers.

There's a difference between being in shape for a normal person, and being prepared for an 82 game NBA season.

I doubt Kemp can withstand.
