Melo offered the same amount as LBJ? i personally don't think Melo deserves a max deal. He's not there yet.

Yeah Melo's a superstar though, Denver would have to max deal or some other team will step up.

So Lebron deserves a max deal a 80 million times more than a guy who averaged 26 pts, 5 rbs, and 3 asts last season, arguably the clutchest player in the league while leading his team to the playoffs every year he has been in the NBA? Lebron has been their once right?

With the standard of guys getting max contracts these days Melo deserves it also.

Well, you can't argue that Melo didn't do shit in his three years of playoffs with a superior team and Lebron almost beat the Pistons.

Let's see what melo did in the playoff:

2004:
15ppg 33%FG 8.3rpg 2.3ast lost in 4 games
2005:
19.2ppg 42%FG 5.4rpg 2.0ast lost in 5 games
2006:
21ppg 33%FG 6.6rpg 2.8ast lost in 5 games

Melo isn't the "clutches player" in the NBA. Where did you get that?
He choked in the playoffs, 3 years straight

Denver had a better supporting team the last 2 years, this year the Cavs improved their role players.

Gilbert Arenas has much better numbers, and he's not getting paid the max. Josh Howard had a similar game, and he's not gonna get paid noway near the max. Prince had a good playoff run, probably half of that.

Melo is overrated. He's a great player, but he's just not there yet. He reminds me of Antonie Walker.

Here is the point where I tell you to go read my post once more. Don't you see "arguably" somewhere in there?

I'm a Kobe Bryant fan so my choice in terms of clutchness is obvious. I still cant deny that Melo has hit quite a few clutch shot over the years. Also, I cant deny the fact that Lebron only had one field goal in the scond half of a game 7 which his team scored only 61.

The moral of the story is that Lebron has not performed that much better than Melo for you to believe Melo doesnt deserve max because James got it. Carmelo is a great player who plays in an overall tougher (from top to bottom) conference than the east. He made it to the playoffs 3 straight years in that conference. He deserved rookie of the year just as much as Lebron did if not for the name and all the hype for a guy who was sitting at home during playoff time that year. While Lebron was stuffing stats he was winning ballgames.

Melo has improved a lot every year, including making the All NBA 3rd team. While I'm not so sure he's worth a max contract, he will be in the future and Denver would be stupid to let him go. He's going to be an All Star eventually.

If he starts doing a fatman dance like 'toine, then Denver fans are doomed.
HE'S USING HYPNOSIS!

I know what you are saying. And i agree for the most part, i just wanted to argue his weaker side. You also have to remember that although he's in the west, he was in a very weak division with Utah, Seattle, Minny and Portland.

:? and they won their division
He deserves max as dada has been arguing, he puts at least 1/4 of Denvers score on the board every week-he's lead the scoring for the nuggets in practically every one of his 80 games and scored 1000 points more than any of his other team mates(w/o him they're (N) ) and 2000+ total, 3rd in overall rebounds and he's a sf
I'm sure more than 1/2 of the other teams would happily pay max for him, im sure Denver wont think twice about signing (Y)

I think that sums it up quite accurately. Giving Carmelo Anthony a max deal is hardly akin to grossly overpaying a player such as Adonal Foyle. I realise that comparison hasn't been made, I'm simply using it as an example.

I'd like to see what would happen if there was no max, if a team could pay whatever they wanted. It would be fun to see how greedy these players really are, as well as how dumb most owners are.
