FIRE VAN GUNDY

Oh my goodness,

The stupid Gay/ Battier trade has JVG written all over it. He is the worst coach ever, fire him, hire one of the following:

Rick Adleman
Stan Van Gundy (although that would be cold to fire someone and hire their brother instead)
Rudy Tomjanovich (if he wants to come back)
Doug Collins
Larry Brown

PLEASE LET BATTIER FAIL HIS PHYSICAL, iA

PLEASE LET BATTIER FAIL HIS PHYSICAL

So you want him to fail the physical and walk away with nothing on the Rudy Gay trade? :?

I thought it was a decent trade.

Battier is a steady role player that plays defence, scores some points, and grabs some rebounds. His potential obviously isn't as high as someone like Gay (or Swift, for that matter), but he's able to contribute right away and I don't see it as bad as some people make it out to be. Battier's a proven player while Gay and Swift are not.

great trade in my opinion.

a solid role player who can defend and hit open 3's created by t-mac and yao when they get double teamed, for a guy who is talented but whose competitive attitude has been questioned. they can move t-mac to the SG position and start battier at the 3.

Agreed. Houston wins this one short term and long term doesn't even matter. Gay has too many question surrounding him and that isn't exactly what Rockets need. Battier is a teriffic role player and will be a great fit in Houston. Anyone who actually watches some games would know that. And they also got rid of that useless Swift and his contract. I seriously don't get what is to hate about this trade.

I wish people would stop acting like Battier sucks. No, he isn't an all-star or anything like that, but the Houston fans will like him once the season starts to progress. He can do so much for a team and he is good in the post as well. I mean, I think Memphis got the better end of the deal of course, but Houston got what they needed, a real solid player to compliment both Tmac and Yao. There's no need for Houston to get another potential star player when they already have 2 on their team. So I think Houston is good with or without Gay. Memphis on the other hand really needed a player of Gay's caliber. There's no telling who really won the deal though because either player can come up big for either team this year because Gay has good player surrounding him already. Battier is almost 30 years old, and he may be consistent every night for around 11-12ppg, 6-7rpg, 1.5spg and 1.5bpg, but I expect Gay to average around 17ppg, 5-6rpg, 1bpg if he starts and get starter minutes around 30+.

Battier is also a terrific defender and you know what you get with him, Gay could turn out to be a flop.

Just like everyone above me said, this sounds like a great trade for Houston.
I'd take Battier over Gay at this point in time as well. You never know what Gay could turn out to be (straight or gay.. hah.. sorry) but trading is a little bit about taking chances too.

Battier seems like the perfect NBA role player, he'd be excellent with Yao and T-Mac.

I really like battier, he's a underrated player. He's a great defender, a great leader, understands the game very well. I think he'll fit in well with the rockets.

One of the reasons the Rockets did this is because they wanted someone who can proviede immediate impact. Rockets, unlike many of the lottery teams, were "supposed" to make the playoffs last year. What i'm saying is that Rockets are not in a rebuilding process like most of the lottery teams. Gay will become a good player and even an all star perhaps. But Battier will give Rockets as a good role player.

As for Swift, i think the Rockets just gave up on him, and putting him in the deal is just to get rid of his contract.

I wonder how the salary cap is gonna work out? there is a pretty big difference.

-Battier=5-7mil/year + Swift=5-6mil/year

while

-Gay= 2-4 mil/year at most.

I'm on the Battier bandwagon too. I think he's a nice compliment to Tmac, plus he'll bring consistency, which the Rockets definitley lack with Tmac's back. The ceiling is definitley high for Gay, but he's still somewhat of a gamble. With Battier you know what you're getting, and he makes the Rockets a better team then they were last year.

I definitley agree that this trade has JVG written all over it though, Battier is a perfect JVG guy.

It's not Battier and Swift for Gay. It's Swift and Gay for Battier.

So say Swift has a 5 million and Gay has 2 million that's 7 million in exchange for Battier's 6-7 million.

Don't see the problem?

You also have to take into account that for Houston to be successful, they're going to need to be a good half court team, and Battier would fit perfect into that system. He's like Bruce Bowen except slightly less defense and more offense. Remember also that Houston's bench isnt a run and gun bench, they have a lot of veterans that will do better in a slower paced game.

Come on...there had to surely be an easier way to get a good defender than give up a talent like Gay and a shot-blocking machine in Swift. Who knows how good of a tandem Gay and Tmac would be? Also, Tmac is injury prone. Who do the Rockets have to back him up? Ummm...Bob Sura? Right...

Oh sure. Every bad trade (not that this is a bad trade), and it's "Jeff Van Gundy's fault".

READ THIS-

Houston Chronicle
Since draft night, I've also been told that this was not a Jeff Van Gundy decision. He was not even consulted on Rudy Gay because management had no intention of keeping Gay.

Let's be realistic here. I don't think Rudy Gay is going to average what you just posted. Start around 11 ppg, 5 rpg and .5 blocks. If he could do that entering the league, he wouldn't have dropped to seven.
