Raptors Acquire Rasho Nesterovic In Exchange for
Matt Bonner, Eric Williams & a Future Second Round Pick

(June 21, 2006) -- The Toronto Raptors announced Wednesday they have acquired centre Rasho Nesterovic (RAH-show Neh-STARE-oh-vitch) and cash considerations from the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for forwards Eric Williams and Matt Bonner, and a 2009 second-round draft pick.

So does this mean no Aldridge? Whaley is waived also. By the way, his contract is kinda ugly for the Raptors...

I like this trade. Eric sucked, Bonenr was ok... but I guess he didn't fit this team that much.

@ hipn - lol, just came home earlier, and read it on the realgm boards. was surprising i guess. according to some posters over at those boards, they think the deal looks like the Spurs are paying for parts of nesterovic's contract.

Interesting trade, Eric Williams and Matt Bonner are bums whilst Rasho is not so much a bust, but just eh.

I don't mind this trade, although I do have concerns about Nesterovic's contract. Nevertheless, it was a good move by Colangelo. We were in desperate need of a big man, and Eric Williams and Matt Bonner were mediocre at best with the Raptors. Eric Williams was just a bum, but Bonner was a fan favourite in Toronto. I wish him the best of luck.

They're all bums...Rasho is no good and doesn't deserve to be on the same court as Chris Bosh. At least the Spurs get a 2nd round pick in the deal...I don't see the Raptors' rationale for the trade.

Just read the Spurs newsletter. Quite surprising. I guess they're hoping Bonner and Williams will improve and they're sure that they're getting Javtokas or Scola

Eric Williams has an ugly contract too if I remember correctly. All that really happens is the two teams swapped out some ugly contracts... the Raptors just got an ugly contract they can actually use.

From RealGM, posters said that we are likely to get Bargangi or Rudy Gay.

Eric William's contract expires after a season or two and his contract is only around 5 million.

I know a lot of Raptor fans will be disappointed in seeing Bonner go. A nice hustle player to have, but he really never played that well last season and he was such a terrible defensive player that I couldn't sleep at night thinking about what opposing players did to him.

Eric Williams. Boy, what a prick. Everyone raves about this guy as a consummate pro but he's no where near one. He's a chump and he's a garbage player that was never the defensive player that he was supposed to be when Toronto traded for him. I'm glad he's gone but he's in a situation that is better suited for him.

Rasho's a pretty crap player with a bad contract. I'm not a fan of him but if Colangelo sees something in him then I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

He wasn't too bad of a player a few years ago and can block some shots, rebound the ball. It's something the Raptors definitely need but his contract really is a turn off.

I don't think that drafting Bargnani/Aldridge is out of the question yet. The Raptors have still got a lot of big men, but most of them suck anyway.

Rasho is a real center which is something that the raptors lack. Whether or not he'll live up to that big contract is not important. He'll be playing at least 20 min every game.

Eric Williams on the other hand is useless. Raptors never use him. Bonner was a fan favourite but with the direction the team is headed, he wasn't gonna see any minute.

So the trade makes a lot of sense for the raptors. The important thing is that we got a real center, and it cost us almost nothing. We gave up 2 players we don't need.

I think this is a good trade for both teams.

Raptors get a Centre which they need.

Spurs clear up some cap space and both contracts are expiring.
Rasho only averaged 18 minutes a game for the spurs this year.
This will be goo for the Spurs, i think they will sign Javtokas and Scola and maybe try to trade off Williams and/or Bonner

Well, I guess that means it will even be a less of chance that the Raptors will draft a big man. Look for them to draft Adam Morrison.

Rasho's not a bad player, I think this was a bit of a steal for the Raptors... they get rid of two players they never used in exchange for a guy they need. This would have to be Euro related for the Spurs, there's no other reason to do it.

I couldn't help but think of Stephen A. Smith when I read that. Anyway, seems like another spare parts for spare parts swap to me.

Well, they did get rid of Tony Massenburg.

ahhh, the Spurs are finally seeing reason & clearing roster junk to make way for Sean Marks :shifty:

in all seriousness, I like the deal for both team....Nesto was never going to ever play for Spurs again so why pay him....teams like Raptors & Hawks are so bad inside that any old stiff will do the job....if the coach can keep some confidence in Rasho then I think this could be a nice pickup....could this trade mean that the Raptors are trying to find a reason to draft Bargnani?!? I know Bosh wanted someone like Aldridge who could help out inside....now that the Raptors have someone who can defend the opposing team's centre & grab a few boards & not require any shots, this might be an indication that they are leaning towards drafting Bargnani....or Morrison....one or the other....

as for the Spurs, Bonner will be a good spot-up guy & Eric Williams might prove more valuable than people think....otherwise he'll be dealt....plus they get another 2nd Round pick, I'm guessing a high one so they can pick someone like that British guy & stash him away....

Wasnt Rasho a vital part of their 2003 Title? I may be mistakened. I never followed him in Minnesota, what was he like there?

He played for the Timberwolves in 2003 but he did start every regular season game he played for the Spurs in their 2005 championship season. Nazr Mohammed won the starting spot in the Playoffs though.

The draft pick is for 2009!

I'm a bit confused. In the Spurs mail they referred to him as a C. I hope they won't play him as backup C behind Javtokas.
