Cassell better than Marbury?

Postby Amphatoast on Thu Apr 27, 2006 1:46 am

i find it strange but I think it's true.
Casell won championships with the Rockets- fine Hakeem and co helped.

Cassell took a horrible Nets team to the playoffs. Eventually got traded, for Marbury pretty much, and Marbury did nothing for them.

Cassell with the Bucks, bucks make it as far as the Eastern Conference Finals. Eventually gets traded to the Timberwolves

Cassell with the Timberwolves, first year make it to the Western Conference Finals. Signs with the clippers after a injury plagued year.

Cassell with the Clippers, first year make it to the playoffs, yes the playoffs with the most jinxed franchise in sports history.

Waayyy more accomplishments acheived than the "best point guard" in Marbury. Cassell seems to be able to fit into any system without an issue, but Marbury has yet to find a system that suits him good. He did have a good run in Phoenix, but still got traded.

Cassell seems to have good chemistry with any team he plays for. He's not a cancer that hurts his team like Marbury, but talent-wise, I'd still give it to Marbury. On a team, though, I'd rather take Cassell over Marbury.

I like Cassell. Have wavered on him a bit in the past, but some teams need a guy like him around. I mean other teams might implode and be worse with his presence, but others definitely need what he brings. Marbury has virtually hung himself this season, not sure what he's thinking.

Man, that 24 is hideous!!

Anyways, I'd go with Cassel cuz of better leadership qualities. Marbury to me is a Lebron-type. He isnt as talented as Lebron in no way and I am only saying this in regards to stacking up assists. 10 assists from Marbury (who tends to have tunnel vision many times) just isnt the same quality as it is from lets say a Kidd or Nash. Similar to Lebron (quality of assists) whose teammates have a tendency to jack it up wherever they receive i from him.

Lebron assists are much, much more valuable than Marbury's, you sick, sick mind. Lebron actually does the playmaking part and his basketball IQ is like 200 while Marbury is retarded in that (or any) area.

On topic, I'd take Cassell over Marbury any time.

I think in the case of the Knicks they'll still be shit.

But I'd take Cassell if I wanted to be a playoff team/championship team. I think Baylor made the best trade in the offseason by getting him and despite all the E.T. jokes on him he has proven to be a winner wherever he goes. I was just worried about Sam's stance on the Clippers as a franchise, he probably knew that he might not make the playoffs but once the team gathered momentum he finally gelled in and now it looks like he might be with the team for next season which is a big boost and I do hope he doesnt leave the Clippers till he retires because hopefully by that time Shaun Livingston will be the PG people predicted him to be.

He's been the best thing this franchise has got since Elton Brand, but most of all he helped us get back into the playoffs which is just priceless after hearing year on jokes about the misfortunes of the Clipper franchise.

The main thing is Cassell keeps the team together, yeah Cats and Chris K helped out but put our previous PG's like Andre Miller or Jeff McInnis in his spot and people will still be making the usual Clipper jokes and we'd be deciding between Rudy Gay and LaMarcus Aldridge.

Sam Cassell is one of the best point guards in the league. The guy is a floor general and a leader out there. He can hit the clutch shot better than anyone not named Kobe Bryant or Carmelo Anthony.

I miss him dearly.

Marbury leaves NJ, Nets turns elite
Marbury leaves Phoenix, Phoenix turns elite
Marbury leaves NY, NY turns...

In New Jersey they got Jason Kidd, Kenyon Martin blew up and Jefferson came, while with Marbury the teams top guns were Kerry Kittles and um.. Lucious Harris?
Marbury was actually a good fit in Phoenix and they made the playoffs and were a few steps from going further, but I have to admit I don't know what was behind the move that sent Stephon to NY. And maybe Phoenix "turned elite" thanks to Steve Nash?
And Marbury hasn't left New York left.
With Minnesota Marbury was at his best, him and KG made a great duo.

Fire Marbury from NBA and all teams will play very well!

are you a moron?

yes well in short whenever he leaves the team gets blessed with someone else coming in and filling in for him. He had keith van horn too, remember the #2 pick behind tim duncan
but "good things" happen when he leaves, so maybe something good will happen to the knicks if it happens

Garnett actually wants Marbury back in Minnesota, which is why many think that Marbury will be in a Wolves uniform next season.

ck, you'll probably get Marko Jaric, Eddie Griffin and a guy like Troy Hudson for Marbury. That is what it is looking like right now. I know Isiah Thomas wanted to get Jaric from the Wolves at the deadline.

Lol at CK, but then again....the knicks could try anything.

cassell is defiinitely better than marbury because of his leadership, his intesity for the game, his experience, how he makes his new teams better. i can't imagine clips making the playoffs if they stilll had marko jaric and bobby simmons.

unfortunately, if elgin baylor makes the mistake of starting shaun livingston next year, who is still raw, cassell might have to make an impact on another team.

now lets take a look at marbury. a shoot-first PG, makes his teammates worse, whoever he plays on really sucks. also does not shut up, see "I guarantee I am the top PG in this league" shit. gets in trouble with his coaches....

in my mind, theres no doubt that cassell is better than marbury.

I guess one thing you can say Marbury has over Cassell is durability, largly because of Sam's age. You really have to watch Cassell's minutes or his body will break down. Marbury stays pretty much injury-free for the most part.

The thing I like about Cassell is he is one of the few point guards in the league today who have a post up game. It's great to have a point guard who can operate in the post because most point guards simply cannot defend that part of the court. It creates a great advantage.

Too much emphasis is placed on Marbury's "losing" ignoring the teams he was on. But, looking at their careers, you have to go with Cassell as having had the better career. From 1998-2004 Cassell was a top five point guard and a top three guy numerous years. Marbury's been at that level a few times but in Phoenix he wasn't close and this last year he was terrible. Cassell is playing at near all-star levels even into his late 30s.

If I have to choose one to have for the next five years I definately pick Marbury though. And if I get the Marbury of 2005, I'd even consider taking him under any circumstances.
I know Isiah Thomas wanted to get Jaric from the Wolves at the deadline.

I don't get the fascination with Jaric. I told everyone the Cassell-Jaric deal was a lopsided laugher and now we have someone considering sending another good point guard for him? Then again, it is Isiah...this is the guy with Marbury, Francis, Crawford, Robinson and Jalen Rose. And his offseason targets are Mike James, Speedy Claxton, Allen Iverson and apparently Marko Jaric. I hope he gets them all, along with Troy Hudson and Jeff McInnis. I would love to see a team full of bi-guards and Eddy Curry.

It's not 'good point guard' for Jaric, it's Marbury for Jaric. Basically black trash for white trash. At least Jaric is a 6'7 PG who can play in the same lineup as Francis and he can move to the SG. And everybody would be happy until they'd get that this works only on paper, like everything else on the Knicks.
