Only 33 and says he "ran out of gas". I'm sure jazz fans are relieved because he cost them a ton of cap over the years and was probably lazy in the offseason considering how deeply flawed his game was.
So even if he's no Patrick Ewing ( or shawn bradley for that matter) but he did stick around and see the nba finals twice. Donated a kidney to his sister too. Another "character" from the 90s is gone and the league has less and less personality without these guys.

to give you a chance to make fun of tag? That wasn't my intention but i see what you mean. I just wanted to break the news quickly.

Didn't see that one coming. He had his moments, probably more than he's given credit for but I don't know if I'd call him one of the great personality of the 90s.

just a character. like bradley mursean or muggsy bogues or manute bol. someone that stood out for looks more than game. Some of them are good, like cassell, and then you have Tag.

He was just big.

Good riddance.

I'd love to be paid that much money to be tall and make 1 basket every couple of games.

It's ok..you're just feelin a little nostalgic. There are far more interesting characters in the league right now than ostertag ever was...ron artest for example.

I watch every jazz game. Noone knows more about this guy then the jazz fans, noone hardly ever gave him credit. So I dont think anyone can talk crap about him. He is a way better guy than alot of these thugs like Artest and K-Mart.

MARCH 6, 1973- Born in Dallas.

JUNE 28, 1995 - Drafted in the first round of the NBA draft by the Utah Jazz (28th overall).

NOV. 15, 1996 - Grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds vs. Vancouver.

MAY 29, 1997 - Along with John Stockton, led a fourth-quarter comeback win in Game 6 of the Western Conference finals at Houston. The win put the Jazz into the NBA Finals for the first time. He finished with 16 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots. He went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.

OCT. 31, 1997 - At a pregame shootaround before the season-opener against the Lakers in Los Angeles, he was slapped by Shaquille O'Neal, who was suspended.

JAN. 6, 1998 - Blocked a career-high 11 shots vs. Philadelphia.

APRIL 18, 2001 - Scored a career-high 25 points on 10-for-11 shooting at Phoenix.

JUNE 2002 - Donated a kidney to his ailing sister and became a widely recognized organ transplant spokesman.

APRIL 26, 2003 - Scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in Game 3 of an opening-round playoff series against Sacramento. The Jazz won 107-104.

JULY 20, 2004 - Signed as a free agent by the Sacramento Kings.

AUGUST 2, 2005 - Re-acquired by the Jazz as part of a three-team trade that also involved Sacramento and Memphis.

APRIL 17, 2006 - Announced his retirement effective at the end of the season.

you forgot that career lowlight joejam999

Fellow King Chris Webber said of the performance, "I hope little kids don't get to see that, man. That would ruin my whole childhood. I saw it up close and personal. Seven-foot man, 300 and something pounds with thongs on. Not cute."

he wasn't worthless, and he wasn't great, but i guess average seems to sum it up. Made use of his size unlike many big men.
